62: Fox Hunting Team
"Quick, quick, quick!"
Gao Lingfeng led his squad members, sprinting towards the equipment room.
By the time they arrived, Squad Leader Ban Yangming had already completed the procedures and was waiting for them at the entrance.
"Squad Leader, what mission are we responsible for this time?"
Ban Yangming handed out equipment piece by piece to his teammates, asking casually.
"He Jingrui, explain the mission details to Squad Leader Ban."
Gao Lingfeng said, donning his gear, "This mission doesn't require direct confrontation with the enemy, but it's even more dangerous. Everyone, be prepared."
"Yes, sir!"
"Understood!"
"Understood!"
After a few responses, only the sound of silent equipment donning remained.
A moment later, after listening to the mission briefing, a hint of surprise flashed in Ban Yangming's eyes, and he was about to say something.
But when his eyes met Gao Lingfeng's, and he noticed that his teammates were a bit down, he suddenly burst into laughter and said loudly, "This mission is great! Other squads are doing frontal assaults, but we're doing the more difficult flanking surprise attack. Doesn't this show that in the eyes of our superiors, our abilities are more outstanding and we're more trustworthy?"
"Lads, cheer up! As long as this mission is successfully completed, our Fox Hunt Squad will be able to strut around the base, and other combat squads will have to yield to our prowess."
Ban Yangming paused, carefully observing everyone's eyes, and seeing that they were all moved, he chuckled and finally added a sentence.
"That would be such a face-gaining achievement!"
As soon as he said this, everyone's eyes lit up, and their previously low spirits brightened.
Seeing the squad's high morale, Gao Lingfeng nodded in satisfaction at Ban Yangming.
"Alright, everyone, move out!"
At Gao Lingfeng's command, everyone immediately lined up and headed towards the base's training ground.
During this time, the Fox Hunt Squad members encountered the other five combat squads, and sparks seemed to fly when their gazes met.
"Oh, Squad Leader Gao, this tough nut is hard to crack this time. If you need our support, don't be shy!"
"Hmph, a high-difficulty mission like a flanking surprise attack should have been our squad's job, but the Fox Hunt Squad snatched it. I don't know what the superiors were thinking."
"Exactly, for a flanking attack mission like this, the Fox Hunt Squad will probably have a hard time. I bet we'll have to help them out then."
Facing the barbed remarks from the other five squad leaders, Gao Lingfeng sneered and didn't respond.
They were all elite soldiers, fierce generals conscripted from various units, all renowned as 'Soldier Kings' in their former teams.
Now it was 'king against king,' who would concede to whom?
Only military discipline kept them in check, so normally they channeled their energy into training and missions, vowing to outperform each other.
Now that there was such an opportunity to prove themselves, who wouldn't vie for it?
It was just that there was no way around it; the superiors had personally designated the mission personnel.
This was why the other five squads were so envious of Gao Lingfeng.
However, while Gao Lingfeng disdained to bother, He Jingrui and the others couldn't hold back.
The mission hadn't even started, and they were already being looked down upon; this suppressed anger was stifling.
Immediately, led by Ban Yangming, they all spat back insults.
For a time, the entire training ground was filled with curses, making it quite lively.
At the same time, Senior Colonel Pu Xiujie, along with the flat-rimmed glasses youth, stepped through the training ground's main gate and witnessed this scene.
The youth expressionlessly pushed up his glasses.
Senior Colonel Pu Xiujie's face, however, darkened, and he immediately stepped forward to reprimand them angrily.
"What are you doing?! What do you little rascals think you're doing? Damn it, the moment I'm not around, you think you can just run wild, don't you?!"
Startled by Senior Colonel Pu Xiujie's roar, everyone instantly turned pale like frightened quails, their bodies stiffened to attention, and they stared straight ahead, though their small eyes still betrayed a sense of panic.
But Senior Colonel Pu Xiujie clearly wasn't going to let them off so easily and shouted loudly,
"Everyone, push-up position!"
Hearing this, everyone's faces collectively fell.
Ordinary push-ups, for their current physical fitness, even doing five hundred continuously, were nothing.
But the push-ups Senior Colonel Pu Xiujie was referring to were the even more insane inverted Russian rotations, which were more extreme than Russian push-ups.
The so-called inverted Russian rotation combines inverted push-ups and standard Russian push-ups with dynamic rotation.
The entire process requires simultaneously fighting gravity and centrifugal force, described as a move "more difficult than the human flag."
And judging by Senior Colonel Pu Xiujie's tone, the starting point was at least a hundred.
Gao Lingfeng and the other squad leaders were filled with regret; they wished they hadn't given in to momentary anger.
But there was no choice; they could only obediently signal their team members to get down and prepare for push-ups.
Fortunately, at this moment, the always-silent flat-rimmed glasses youth spoke up.
"Senior Colonel Pu Xiujie, I have no intention of interfering with your base's management, but the mission is urgent right now, and it would be best for them to conserve their strength."
Hearing this, Gao Lingfeng and the other squad leaders were all stunned, then looked at the youth, their eyes simultaneously showing gratitude.
Regardless of the youth's motive, being able to speak up and save them from the 'smiling tiger's' physical punishment made him their great benefactor at that moment.
Senior Colonel Pu Xiujie looked at the youth in surprise, then nodded.
"Since Mr. Ye has spoken, you may get up. But if you mess up this mission, I'll skin you alive when you get back!"
Seeing that the 'smiling tiger' had actually agreed, Gao Lingfeng and the others were overjoyed, quickly got up from the ground, and responded loudly,
"Understood!"
"Mission accomplished, guaranteed!"
At this moment, seven armed helicopters had already landed on the helipad in the corner of the training ground.
The six squads immediately ran towards their designated helicopters and quickly boarded.
A few minutes later, seeing that all personnel had boarded, Senior Colonel Pu Xiujie looked at the youth and said,
"Let's go too."
The youth nodded and walked towards the last helicopter.
This scene fell into the eyes of everyone on the planes, and they became even more curious about the youth's identity.
However, military discipline was paramount; not asking what shouldn't be asked was common sense for veterans.
But there were also hotheads who had only been soldiers for a few years, who couldn't help but curiously ask their squad leader,
"Squad Leader, this guy looks so aloof, and his status seems very high. Even Colonel... Senior Colonel Pu is so polite to him. Who exactly is he?"
Gao Lingfeng glared at He Jingrui and snorted impatiently.
"Do you think being selected here means you don't have to follow the confidentiality rules anymore? Asking, asking, daring to ask everything! Why don't you ask your squad leader when I'm going to kick the bucket so you can take over?"
He Jingrui, after being scolded, immediately shrank his neck and dared not ask again.
However, he was still very curious.
He remembered that when his squad leader called him back to duty via satellite phone, he seemed to have said that a very important person would be accompanying them on this mission.
Could it be this youth?
