67: Chapter 0067 General Shi

He discovered that the attire of the soldiers around General Shi Yong was no different from that of ordinary soldiers.

Taking advantage of General Shi Yong's group's departure, he easily slipped into the Generals Mansion, found a soldier with the "Village Bully" trait, and completed the replacement.

Normally, if a corpse were exposed, it would be very troublesome, but Lin Xiao had his space.

While living people couldn't be put inside, dead bodies could.

After completing his disguise, Lin Xiao impersonated that soldier and followed them openly.

It was exactly when the army was about to set out; everyone was incredibly busy, and no one would notice an extra person at the back.

Lin Xiao naturally couldn't follow General Shi Yong too closely, so he first blended into the ordinary soldiers and observed in secret.

After half a day's march, the army once again stationed themselves at Pingcang County.

However, General Shi Yong had learned from his previous lesson. To prevent a midnight sneak attack, he did not go to the military camp outside the city but instead occupied the county magistrate's office.

When the county magistrate saw that the General of Declared Might had arrived, he was so terrified that he took his entire family and hid far away.

The magistrate's office was guarded entirely by General Shi Yong's personal guards, with layers of security.

Lin Xiao was amused; for a supposed fierce general, how afraid of assassination was he?

But, thinking from his perspective, he would surely be a hundred times more careful. After all, any mistake would cost him his head!

"What a pity... I've changed my tactics this time. The strongest man is already in your ranks! Hehe..."

Lin Xiao wasn't in a hurry. Through his observations along the way, he had identified several officers close to General Shi Yong.

Night fell.

Relying on his movement techniques, Lin Xiao flipped onto the second floor of an inn.

Several of General Shi Yong's confidants were staying here.

Lin Xiao climbed through the window; inside, a bearded man was drinking wine and eating meat.

"You little grunt! What are you trying to do!?" The officer looked startled.

Before he could pick up his blade, Lin Xiao had already slit his throat!

Lin Xiao covered the man's mouth to ensure no one heard anything, then quickly changed clothes and disguised himself.

This man was named Zhou Dazhuang, a sixth-rank Commandant of Martial Manifestation.

He wasn't from the provincial army but was a confidant brought by General Shi Yong, belonging to Prince Bai's private army.

With such an identity, it was naturally easier to get close to General Shi Yong.

Just as Lin Xiao finished his "transformation," he heard someone knocking on the door.

"Commandant Zhou, someone is here to see the General!"

Lin Xiao was stunned, then replied in Zhou Dazhuang's voice, "It's late at night, who is it?"

"The person's face is covered, but they have a seal from the Bai Princes Mansion as proof!"

Lin Xiao found it strange; they were going to besiege the city tomorrow, so who would come at this time?

He walked out boldly and told the soldier to lead the way.

Arriving at the city gate, Lin Xiao saw a burly person wrapped tightly from head to toe.

[Zada, 40 years old, Envoy of the Northern Barbarians' Greedy Wolf Tribe, Aptitude: yellow grade]

Lin Xiao's heart skipped a beat!

No wonder the build looked familiar; it was a barbarian!?

"Who are you? Why do you want to see General Shi so late at night?"

"Cut the nonsense, this is the seal of the Bai Princes Mansion!"

Zada's tone was arrogant as he handed the letter directly to Lin Xiao.

Lin Xiao looked at it, feigned a look of surprise, and smiled awkwardly. "Please follow me!"

The plan couldn't keep up with changes. Although he had run into an unexpected situation, he couldn't pass up the chance to get close to General Shi Yong!

The county magistrate's office wasn't large. After Lin Xiao led Zada inside, he immediately sent someone to announce them.

A moment later, the two entered a study and saw General Shi Yong looking at a defense map of Baishui Prefecture.

General Shi Yong wasn't wearing armor, but a long black robe; he seemed to be preparing to rest.

"You, leave."

General Shi Yong glanced at Lin Xiao and said.

Lin Xiao knew it wasn't convenient to strike now, so he complied and withdrew.

But after walking a short distance, he ducked away and hid under a windowsill of the study.

"General Shi, our army has already gathered north of Baishui City. We will begin the siege at noon tomorrow."

"The tribal chief asked me to notify you. He hopes General Shi can launch the attack on time to completely eradicate Lin Xiao's group!"

General Shi Yong said, "Taking Baishui City is no problem. But this General wants Lin Xiao's head to present to His Highness Prince Bai!"

"No! Lin Xiao killed our young tribal chief; we need to cut him into a thousand pieces!"

"I only want the head; the body belongs to you!"

"Fine... the tribal chief should agree to that."

"In addition, you are not allowed to kill Mu Wanying of the Mu Family Army. That is the woman His Highness Prince Bai wants."

"A small matter. But if she insists on seeking death, we can't do anything about that."

"Naturally. And there's one more crucial point: once our army enters the city, you must retreat!"

"Haha... of course. All of Baishui Prefecture will be grateful to Prince Bai!"

After the communication and confirmation, Zada handed over a box of jewelry and then left satisfied.

Lin Xiao then circled to the door and knocked.

"General, this subordinate has a matter to report."

General Shi Yong closed the jewelry box in his hand. "Why haven't you left yet? What is it?"

"That masked man just now also shoved a note to me; it seems to be intelligence."

"Intelligence? Come in..."

After Lin Xiao entered, he carefully closed the door, clutching a note in his hand.

Coming before General Shi Yong, Lin Xiao handed over the note, which was the one he had gotten from Su Chang.

General Shi Yong grabbed it and opened it; his expression instantly changed drastically!

"This is!?..."

Clang! —

Before General Shi Yong could recover from his shock, Lin Xiao had already swung the wolf fang cold moon blade!

Agh!

General Shi Yong's neck was pierced through by a single strike!

He looked at his long-time confidant before him, his eyes full of disbelief and shock!!

He never would have dreamed that "Zhou Dazhuang" would assassinate him!

Lin Xiao didn't dare to be overconfident. Seeing General Shi Yong retreat, trying to run out the door...

Puchi!

Lin Xiao gave another thrust, completely piercing through him from the back of his heart!

Even though General Shi Yong's martial arts were high, he couldn't guard against the unexpected and completely lost his breath!

Even though Lin Xiao had experienced many bloody battles, his heart was pounding right now!

This was too thrilling!

He really had to thank Zada; otherwise, it might have taken a lot more effort!

After confirming no one was coming, Lin Xiao once again began to change his disguise.

He looked in the mirror for a while and practiced mimicking the voice.

After ensuring there were no flaws, Lin Xiao wiped away the blood and began to rest on the couch with his eyes closed.

The next morning, Lin Xiao put on General Shi Yong's armor, donned the helmet, and arrived at the military camp looking majestic.

Several subordinate officers were already waiting.

"General, Commandant Zhou is nowhere to be found. Our men can't find him; he seems to have disappeared!"

Lin Xiao waved his hand. "No matter, he has other things to do. You don't need to ask."

When the officers heard this, although they found it strange, they didn't dare to ask more.

"We must reach Baishui City before noon. Depart!"

"Yes!"

Several commandants immediately began to mobilize the troops and head toward Baishui City.

Lin Xiao rode a tall horse, looking at the massive army of thirty thousand, feeling very envious.

If only he could incorporate them all into his own ranks, how great would that be...

Just as he was envisioning his plan, the voice of a general suddenly came from beside him.

"General Shi, if I may be so bold as to suggest, can we delay the attack on Baishui City by one day?"

Lin Xiao couldn't help but be stunned. He looked to the side and saw a middle-aged officer with a worried face.

[Wei Dongxue, 34 years old, Counselor of the Cangzhou Army, Aptitude: yellow grade]

[Cultivation Technique: Green Book Sword Manual (19 years of cultivation), Grade: mystic grade]

[Traits: Deploying Troops (Special), Military Affairs, Clerical Work]

Lin Xiao narrowed his eyes and put on General Shi Yong's arrogant expression.

"Reason?"
