Chapter 4: A swift and decisive move – filing for divorce.

Late at night, Su Qiaoer was in the bedroom packing her things. She originally thought she wouldn't have much, but to her surprise, she ended up packing quite a lot.

Looking at these items, memories of her five years with Zheng Jie flooded her mind.

She remembered that in order to keep the cooperation between the two families going, the Zheng family proposed an alliance between Zheng Jie and herself. At that time, she was ten thousand times unwilling, but her parents felt that since he was a biological son of the Zheng family anyway, what did it matter which one she married? After all, establishing an in-law relationship and promoting continued cooperation was the most important thing. Thus, despite Su Qiaoer's disagreement, the two of them obtained their marriage certificate and held a wedding under her parents' strong push.

In Su Qiaoer's eyes, Zheng Jie was a very good man. He never forced her to do anything she didn't want to do, even if it was a marital obligation. Even their first time was because she had drunk too much at a banquet, returned home, and mistaken Zheng Jie for Zheng Tian.

Later, she unexpectedly became pregnant. She told him she was too busy with work and wanted an abortion. She thought Zheng Jie would be very angry and argue with her, but to her surprise, he agreed. During the period after the abortion, Zheng Jie took meticulous care of her, which gradually eased the sadness in her heart.

Furthermore, he was very capable and ambitious. After the alliance with the Su Family, the Zheng family, in order to show Zheng Jie's importance, specially arranged for him to enter the Zheng Group. Of course, his position was at the lowest level. At that time, Zheng Jie was completely devoted to his work. For the sake of a project, he would drink until he vomited six times; for a single cooperation, he could end up in the ICU. He was that reckless. Back then, Su Qiaoer asked Zheng Jie why he was working so hard when he was clearly the second young master of the Zheng family.

Though several years had passed, Su Qiaoer still remembered that answer in her heart.

“Because I am not my brother. I only have this one chance.”

When Su Qiaoer heard that answer back then, she felt a strange bitterness in her heart.

He was the second young master who had never been valued by the Zheng family and had been raised in the countryside.

For Zheng Tian, he could fail countless times, but for Zheng Jie, he only had one chance. Later, in the third year, relying on his outstanding ability, Zheng Jie became the president of the Zheng Group. In just a few short years, he brought the Zheng Group's market value from 600 billion to 1 trillion and shed a large amount of non-performing assets, putting the entire Zheng Group on a path of rapid development. Now, it had already surpassed the Su Family.

Everyone was saying that if nothing went wrong, the Zheng Group would become the first company with a market value exceeding two trillion and a profit of over 400 billion in five years.

And all of this was because of Zheng Jie.

Su Qiaoer thought she would spend her whole life with Zheng Jie like this; after all, her life was the envy of many friends. However, when she heard the news that Zheng Tian was returning to the country, her calm heart suddenly surged with turbulent waves. She knew that day was Zheng Jie's birthday and that he was waiting at home for her to celebrate with him, but at that moment, Su Qiaoer had only one thought: to find Zheng Tian.

That night, they were all in a restaurant celebrating Zheng Tian's return. Encouraged by several friends, Su Qiaoer knew she shouldn't drink anymore but still had a few extra glasses. Perhaps it was the effect of the alcohol, but they went to a hotel that night and did not return.

As for what happened, in truth, everyone knew without it being said. When she woke up the next day, Su Qiaoer felt some guilt toward Zheng Jie.

Later, Zheng Tian proposed that she divorce Zheng Jie. Although she hesitated, she eventually agreed. Actually, she didn't know what she was thinking herself. Because she wanted to marry Zheng Tian, she hoped Zheng Jie would agree, but at the same time, the thought of divorcing Zheng Jie made her feel a bit reluctant.

She just didn't expect that Zheng Jie would agree so smoothly.

She thought he wouldn't agree.

“Su Qiaoer, are you finished packing?”

At this moment, Zheng Tian walked into the bedroom. Looking at the wedding photo by the bed, some thoughts arose in his mind—for instance, making something happen with Su Qiaoer in this bedroom. But considering Su Qiaoer's personality, Zheng Tian decided against it. It wasn't worth making her angry for a moment of pleasure.

“Yes, I'm all packed.”

“Alright, let's head out then.”

“Okay.”

Zheng Tian helped Su Qiaoer carry her suitcase and accompanied her outside. When they reached the first-floor living room, Su Qiaoer subconsciously looked toward the kitchen nearby.

Zheng Jie was a man without many hobbies. If one were to ask what he liked doing most besides work, it would probably be cooking.

He was an excellent cook, mastering various cuisines from all over. Sometimes Zheng Jie would even joke that if he weren't a president, being a chef would be quite nice.

This guy actually had a real contrast to him sometimes.

Clearly a cold and handsome guy, yet he would occasionally say things that were inadvertently hilarious.

“Madam, are you leaving?”

Just as they were about to reach the door, a servant hesitated before speaking up. Hearing this, Su Qiaoer turned back and looked at the Villa's living room. It held too many traces of her life and Zheng Jie's life.

Just as Su Qiaoer was thinking about what to say, a pair of hands suddenly wrapped around her arm; it was Zheng Tian's hands.

“Su Qiaoer, the car outside has been waiting for a long time.”

Hearing this, Su Qiaoer nodded.

“Yes, alright, let's go.”

After saying that, Su Qiaoer looked at the servant before her.

“If Zheng Jie comes back later, tell him for me not to forget about tomorrow morning's matter.”

What else could the servant say? They could only nod.

“Understood.”

This time, the servant did not add the word 'Madam'.

As she stepped out of the front door, a sudden pang of bitterness flashed through Su Qiaoer's heart for no reason, a bitterness that made her feel so uncomfortable.

In the novel, on this night, Zheng Jie had gone mad in the Villa and slapped Zheng Tian, while Su Qiaoer had hurriedly rushed Zheng Tian to the Hospital. As for Zheng Jie, who had been knocked against the corner of a table, no one cared about him.

Watching Su Qiaoer leave, the servants looked at each other.

“Really... the Second Young Master is so good, why...”

“Sigh, tell me about it. Alright, stop talking, it won't be good if someone hears us.”

“True.”

The servants felt that Zheng Jie was too pitiful.

Getting married because the older brother left, and getting divorced because the older brother returned—it seemed as if Zheng Jie was nothing more than a substitute for Zheng Tian from beginning to end.

In fact, in the eyes of the Zheng family, Zheng Jie really was used for that purpose.

...

At eight o'clock the next morning, Xia Wanqing was helping Zheng Jie straighten his suit.

“Hubby, after the divorce, will you be free? Can you come over whenever you want?”

Xia Wanqing hung onto Zheng Jie like a sloth, her tone full of joy.

Hearing this, Zheng Jie patted Xia Wanqing's bottom. Not going to lie, she truly lived up to her dance background; the firmness felt quite nice.

“You can't even handle the current frequency. If I came every day, I'm afraid you'd die.”

Zheng Jie's tone was teasing. Perhaps thinking of yesterday's events, Xia Wanqing's face turned slightly red.

“Hmph, then... even if I die under you, Hubby, I'm willing.”

“Besides, I still have Sister Shihan. I'm not afraid; when the time comes, it'll be two against one.”

This woman really knew how to talk.

Zheng Jie was also very willing to spend time with her.

However, Zheng Jie also understood that she was with him because he could provide help with her career. Of course, that was for the best, because he truly could provide that. But if she wanted to get love from him, Zheng Jie couldn't give it.

If he truly loved anything, for Zheng Jie, it was only money and career.

“You certainly talk big.”

“Then we'll try it when Shihan gets back.”

Xia Wanqing's face turned slightly red.

“I have no problem with it, but you have to help convince Shihan, okay?”

Hearing this, Zheng Jie reached out and pinched Xia Wanqing's nose.

“Then it's a deal.”

Seeing that it was about time, Zheng Jie put on his suit and left.

On the other side, Zheng Tian was also driving Su Qiaoer to the Civil Affairs Bureau. At this time, Zheng Tian was full of worry, fearing that Zheng Jie wouldn't show up today. After all, he had learned through several friends how well Zheng Jie usually treated Su Qiaoer.

However, once they arrived at the Civil Affairs Bureau, Zheng Tian knew he had overthought it.

Because Zheng Jie was already waiting at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau.

“Boss, they're here.”

“Yes, I see them.”

Zheng Jie's face was calm. In truth, Su Qiaoer lived up to being the novel's primary female lead; she was very beautiful and had a great figure. Although he was letting someone else have her, Zheng Jie didn't feel like he was losing out. After all, he really didn't lack beautiful women with great figures. Most importantly, he could take over the Zheng Group and had used her for five years for free...

Therefore, when he saw Zheng Tian get out of the car, for some reason, Zheng Jie felt the other man had the vibe of a 'rebound guy'.

“Zheng Jie.”

Zheng Tian held Su Qiaoer's hand and walked toward Zheng Jie. Zheng Jie could see the smugness in his eyes, as if he were showing off—

The girl you simped for for five years is now obediently following me the moment I return.

A very idiotic provocation.

“Zheng Jie, Mom and Dad want us to go home for dinner after we're done here.”

Hearing this, Zheng Jie nodded.

“Fine, I understand.”

Zheng Jie knew that at noon today, his parents would announce that he was being sent to a subsidiary company as president, while Zheng Tian would replace him as the president of the Zheng Group.

It was laughable, really. To become the president, he had risked everything and exhausted all his efforts, yet as soon as Zheng Tian returned, the other man could become the company president without having to go through any training.

It was truly infuriating how people were treated differently.

But thinking of his upcoming plans, Zheng Jie's eyes were full of calm.

“Let's go take care of the divorce first.”

Zheng Jie turned his head to look at Su Qiaoer, his tone completely calm.

At this moment, Su Qiaoer raised her head and looked at Zheng Jie.

When she saw Zheng Jie, Su Qiaoer felt inexplicably guilty.

“I... okay.”

“Let's go.”
