204: The front line protecting the blue planet
After half a day without a refresh, Lin Chen checked Du Feiyu's communicator and then went back to publish his paper.
Now that the external network was open, he could finally publish his paper. He would secure the copyright for the mysterious candy first. As for the mission channel, he would wait until tomorrow when there were fewer people.
After publishing the paper, Lin Chen saw Du Feiyu and the others happily discussing in their group. He shook his head and chose to sleep.
He still had a mission tomorrow. If he didn't go to bed early now, given Zhang Lingyu's personality, wouldn't he be lectured for half the day tomorrow?
Early the next morning, ignoring the three people still sound asleep in their beds, he tidied up and left the dormitory, arriving at the agreed meeting point.
"You guys are so early?" Lin Chen, carrying breakfast, looked at everyone with surprise, realizing he was the last one to arrive.
"We can finally go out and experience the real Abyss Battlefield. How could we possibly sleep with such an exciting thing happening?" A tall, thin boy said excitedly.
"Uh, we're just doing missions in Huaxia City. We're not going to the Abyss Battlefield yet!" Lin Chen shrugged, handing the fried dough stick and soy milk in his hand to Yun Mengyao, receiving a sweet 'thank you' in return.
"Tsk tsk! Spreading dog food first thing in the morning. What? Are we not even worthy of breakfast?" The Girl, arm-in-arm with Yun Mengyao, teased with a wronged expression.
Her name was Ming Yu. She was one of the only two Girls in the team, and her initial spirit beast was a Lava Sprite, making her a true artillery mage.
"Sorry~~ I didn't expect everyone to wake up so early? Should I go buy some more?" Lin Chen shrugged.
He only knew these people, having chatted a few times in the group. Besides Zhang Lingyu and Yun Mengyao, he wasn't particularly close to them.
"Hehe~~ Just kidding. If we're going to eat breakfast, shouldn't Leng Yi, the fastest runner, go buy it? Right?" Ming Yu raised an eyebrow and smiled at the tall, thin boy who had spoken earlier.
"Hehe! Yu'er hasn't had breakfast? You should have said so earlier. I would have bought two more steamed buns this morning, definitely not the Wangzai kind!" The boy teased, immediately drawing a spit of curses from Ming Yu.
He was the scout of the team, named Leng Yi. However, his personality was sunny and cheerful, not at all like a cold scout.
Tall, handsome, and cheerful, he naturally had good rapport with Girls. The two had often flirted (crossed out, teased) in the group, and now they were even more unreserved in person.
"Alright, I've never seen you eat breakfast on weekdays. If you really want to eat, just buy some on the way later. Everyone check your equipment. If there are no problems, we'll set off!"
Seeing the two about to start bickering again, Zhang Lingyu, as the team leader, immediately spoke up. What time was it? What breakfast were they still talking about?
Seeing the boss speak, the others naturally had no objections. After getting to know each other, they went to the guard to submit their information and left the Training Ground.
However, after walking out of the Training Ground, Leng Yi actually pulled out a corn and handed it to Ming Yu.
"Hehe! No big white steamed buns, but do you want a cob? And there are eggs too~~~" Leng Yi said with a mischievous smile.
"Yes!" Ming Yu immediately took it, and just as she was about to eat it, she blinked at Leng Yi, "Did you eat? Do you want me to break off half?"
"I ate, I ate. You just eat it. I'll go lead the way!" Leng Yi waved his hand, smiling, and darted to the front of the team.
"When did he buy breakfast? And it's still warm, fresh out of the oven?" Lin Chen leaned into Yun Mengyao's ear and asked curiously.
However, Beast Tamers have very keen senses, and Ming Yu was already holding Yun Mengyao's arm, so she naturally overheard Lin Chen's words.
"His second spirit beast is a Silver Sand Rat. It's very fast and intelligent. He probably had the Silver Sand Rat buy it on our way out!" Ming Yu gnawed on the corn, her eyes narrowed in happiness.
"It seems you two are getting serious~~~" Yun Mengyao said with an ambiguous smile, the teasing in her eyes making her female strategist a little embarrassed.
Not making everyone walk, after leaving the Training Ground, Leng Yi found two taxis at the intersection ahead, packed everyone in, and headed towards the east of the city.
Although they were accepting missions, the military certainly wouldn't trust these newcomers to handle things on their own. All missions had corresponding contacts, who also served as their guides.
And where they were going now was the Huaxia City Patrol Camp's East Branch. The Abyssal Crawler eradication operation was mainly in the eastern part of the city.
As for the location of their Training Ground military camp, it happened to be in the west of Huaxia City, so this trip would span the entire Huaxia City.
"Hey! Look, everyone here has a spirit beast with them! And besides the shop owners and staff, many people look like they've just returned from battle?"
Sitting in the same car, Leng Yi pointed at the bustling crowds outside the window.
"Hahaha! You kids must be new to Huaxia City, right? This is an Abyss City. Besides us ordinary people, those Beast Tamers are either fighting Abyssal Monsters or on their way to the battlefield!" Before anyone could speak, the driver spoke first.
"This? Is the war on the Abyss Battlefield so urgent?" Lin Chen looked at the driver and asked curiously.
"Urgent? Huaxia City, or rather, all Abyss Cities, are like this. Abyssal Monsters are endless. If anyone were to stop, those Abyssal Monsters would probably be able to sneak into the city by the next day." The driver sighed with emotion.
"Hiss~~~" The few of them gasped. They had naturally heard about this from their instructors during Military Training, but at the time, they only thought it was an exaggeration. They never expected it to actually be true?
"You must often hear some beast roars, right?" The driver pointed towards outside the city and asked. Everyone silently nodded. These sounds could be heard even in the military camp.
"Those are Abyssal Monsters trying to attack the city walls. Although Huaxia City is stable now and high-level Abyssal Monsters won't easily attack the city, there are always some low-level ones that stumble in.
"It's all thanks to these Beast Tamers who guard daily and resist the attacks of Abyssal Monsters that we ordinary people can live peacefully in the city!"
The driver's words made the few people in the car fall silent, but the driver didn't seem to notice the suddenly oppressive atmosphere. Instead, he continued to speak, as if he wanted to tell all the difficulties of Huaxia City to the new visitors.
This was not a city suitable for remembrance and tourism. This was a true battlefield city, the frontline defending the Blue Star...
