36: Chapter 36 The Gu Family Legal Team is Deployed

In the emergency room of Central Hospital, the doctor held Zhang Fan's X-ray and frowned deeply: "A hairline fracture on the fifth left rib, a laceration on the brow bone, and multiple soft tissue contusions all over the body. You need to be hospitalized for two days of observation."

Zhou Yurou stood by, her eyes red.

"I'll go handle the admission procedures first," she said in a low voice, turning to walk toward the payment counter. Her pace was slower than usual, and her back revealed an indescribable exhaustion.

Zhang Fan watched her back, feeling a bit uneasy. He could have avoided wading into this muddy water.

Before the admission procedures were finished, Yang Lei rushed over.

He was carrying a fruit basket, his suit jacket draped over his arm, and his tie hanging loosely. When he saw Zhou Yurou, his eyes flickered away: "Yurou, I'm sorry. About yesterday... it was my fault for not keeping Yang Linlin in check."

Zhou Yurou ignored him and just handed the admission form to the nurse.

"Brother Zhang Fan," Yang Lei turned to Zhang Fan in the hospital room again, his face wearing an unnatural smile, "Thank you so much this time. If it weren't for you..."

"No need to thank me," Zhang Fan interrupted him, his voice a bit cold. "I just happened to be passing by."

Yang Lei's smile froze on his face. He wanted to say something but ultimately didn't. He stood in the room for a while like an extra ornament until the nurse came to urge them, then he awkwardly said to Zhou Yurou: "Mimi is still waiting for you at home. Let me take you back first, and we can come see Zhang Fan later."

Zhou Yurou was silent for a few seconds, then nodded. She walked to Zhang Fan's bedside and set down a thermos: "There's millet porridge inside. Drink some if you're hungry. I... am going home to check on the child first."

"Yeah." Zhang Fan watched as she was helped out by Yang Lei. Their side-by-side figures cast on the corridor floor seemed as distant as strangers.

The room finally quieted down. Zhang Fan leaned against the headboard, unable to sleep from the pain, his mind filled with the code for Sok Engine—the project cycle for Digital Power was only one month; every day delayed added to the pressure. He took out his phone, found Gu Jingshen's number, and dialed it.

"Old Gu, do me a favor. Bring over the laptop on my office desk. It's urgent."

"Bring the laptop? Where are you?" Gu Jingshen's voice carried the grogginess of someone who had just woken up.

"Central Hospital. I'm hospitalized."

"What the hell! What happened to you?" Gu Jingshen's voice instantly spiked. "Did someone beat you up? Which bastard did it? I'm bringing people over right now!"

"Don't make a fuss, it's a minor injury," Zhang Fan quickly stopped him. "Just bring the computer over quickly. The Digital Power project can't afford any delays."

After hanging up, he stared blankly at the ceiling. It was absurd when he thought about it—he was just a coder, how did he end up getting into a fight with someone?

Less than an hour later, Gu Jingshen burst in in a rush, followed by a woman in professional attire, his assistant. "Fan Zi! Your face..." Gu Jingshen looked at his brow bone, which was wrapped in gauze, his eyes turning red. "Who the hell did this? Tell me, I'll make sure they leave horizontally!"

"I said it's a minor injury," Zhang Fan pointed helplessly at the bedside table. "Did you bring the computer?"

"Brought it, brought it." Gu Jingshen handed him the laptop, still worried. "Are you sure you don't need my help? I know an old doctor of traditional Chinese medicine who is very good at treating bone fractures..."

"Really, no need." Zhang Fan opened the computer. The moment the screen lit up, his expression changed immediately—it was the focus of a programmer, and the pain seemed to be blocked out. "Oh, right, help me bring the external keyboard and mouse from the office too. The laptop keyboard is a pain to type on."

Gu Jingshen wanted to say something more, but his phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the caller ID, his expression turning serious, and he walked out into the corridor to answer. When he returned, his face was much more solemn: "My mom knows you're hospitalized and is sending the Gu Corporation's legal team over."

"Aunt Tang? That's too much trouble..." Zhang Fan was stunned.

"What trouble? It's no trouble," Gu Jingshen patted his shoulder. "My mom says you got hurt saving someone, so we can't let you be wronged. Besides, you're the boss of Singularity Technology now, and you have a partnership with our Gu Corporation, so it's only right to protect our own people."

Just as he finished speaking, the hospital room door was pushed open. Three men in suits walked in, and the leader handed over a business card: "Hello, Mr. Zhang. We are from the legal department of the Gu Group. CEO Tang sent us to understand the situation and see if we can be of any help."

Zhang Fan looked at the "Senior Legal Consultant" title on the business card and felt a bit dazed. His small studio hadn't even officially opened yet, and it had already alarmed the Gu Corporation's legal team?

The lawyers were very efficient. Without wasting words, they took out a voice recorder and documents: "Mr. Zhang, could you please recount what happened last night? The more detailed, the better."

Zhang Fan recounted the events in the garage. The lawyers listened very carefully, interrupting him from time to time to ask for details—what Cheng Hu had said, whether Yang Linlin was present, how Zhou Yurou's clothes were torn...

"Based on your description and the injury report, Cheng Hu's actions constitute attempted rape and provocation. Coupled with his prior criminal record, the sentencing will not be light," the lead lawyer pushed up his glasses, his tone firm. "We will assist the police in organizing the evidence to ensure he receives the punishment he deserves."

Just as they were speaking, two people in police uniforms walked in; they were the officers who responded to the call last night. "Mr. Zhang Fan, we're here to take a supplementary statement." The lead police officer was stunned when he saw the legal team, then smiled. "With the lawyers from Gu Corporation here, we can rest easy."

He handed Zhang Fan a red certificate and an envelope: "This is the 'Courageous Act' award just approved by the district, including the certificate and a 5,000 yuan bonus, as a token of thanks for stepping up."

Zhang Fan looked at the certificate in his hand, feeling a mix of amusement and helplessness. He had just acted on impulse at the time and hadn't thought about any rewards. However, getting the award approved in just half a day—if it weren't for the influence of the Gu Corporation, no one would believe it.

"Oh, right," the policeman added, "The case against Cheng Hu, with the new evidence you provided, can basically be settled. Attempted rape plus provocation—it's at least a ten-year sentence to start."

The atmosphere in the hospital room suddenly lightened quite a bit.

The lawyers coordinated some details with the police. Before leaving, the lead lawyer specifically said to Zhang Fan: "Mr. Zhang, rest assured and recover from your injuries. If you have any further legal questions, feel free to contact us at any time. Also, as the instigator of the incident, we will provide relevant clues to the police regarding Yang Linlin to hold her accountable."

These words seemed to be spoken to the air, yet they accurately reached the ears of Yang Lei, who had just walked into the room.

Yang Lei was carrying a thermos, and his face instantly turned pale.

He had originally been begged by Yang Linlin to come—she had heard that Cheng Hu might be sentenced to ten years and had been crying and making a scene at home, forcing Yang Lei to come and beg Zhang Fan to write a letter of leniency.

But now, seeing the setup in the hospital room, especially hearing the words "hold Yang Linlin accountable," his legs went a bit weak.
