Chapter 7 The surface molecular structure was disrupted by 0.03 mm.
After hanging up the phone, Zhang Wei walked back quickly, the expression on his face having completely changed. The previous business-like coolness had vanished without a trace, replaced by an extreme seriousness and gravity, even mixed with a hint of irrepressible excitement.
He looked at Lin Yuan with a gaze so complex it made Lin Yuan feel uneasy.
"Mr. Lin Yuan," Zhang Wei's voice was somewhat raspy, "this time... you might have truly blown the roof off the world."
Lin Yuan gave a dry laugh. "I... I'm just a junk collector, I don't have that kind of ability."
"No, you don't know what you've found." Li Na also walked over, staring at the black metal plate, murmuring to herself, "We have records of thousands of special materials in our database, including unknown alloys extracted from meteorites, but not a single one... can reach this level of strength."
Her eyes shimmered with a light bordering on obsession; it was the expression of a researcher witnessing a miracle.
The atmosphere in the scrapyard became exceptionally eerie.
Three people stood around a black metal plate, no one saying a word.
Lin Yuan didn't know what to say, while Zhang Wei and Li Na were processing the massive shock this startling discovery had brought them.
"Next... what should we do?" Lin Yuan broke the silence in a low voice.
"Wait," Zhang Wei replied succinctly. "Wait for our people to arrive. Mr. Lin, from now on, this place will be taken over by us. Until our reinforcements arrive, no one is allowed to enter or leave."
As he spoke, he pulled a small signal jamming device from his pocket and pressed the switch.
Lin Yuan's phone instantly lost its signal.
"This is to prevent information leaks," Zhang Wei explained. "Until things are clarified, everything concerning this metal plate is classified as top secret."
Lin Yuan nodded, showing his understanding. He now realized that these two people were definitely not ordinary community workers; the power behind them was terrifyingly vast.
Time passed minute by minute.
About half an hour later, a low roar echoed from the horizon.
Lin Yuan looked up to see several black helicopters without any markings flying towards the scrapyard at high speed through the night sky.
The helicopters had no navigation lights on, appearing like ghosts in the darkness.
"They're here," Zhang Wei said in a low voice.
Several helicopters hovered over the scrapyard, their massive rotors kicking up a gale that sent the scrap metal on the ground clattering. Then, one helicopter slowly descended, and over a dozen fully armed soldiers in black combat gear quickly rappelled down.
These soldiers' movements were extremely professional; upon landing, they immediately spread out in a fan shape, occupying key points of the scrapyard, their dark muzzles pointed alertly at the surroundings.
Following that, another large transport helicopter landed, and several military-green engineering vehicles and a huge container-like cabin drove out from the cargo bay.
A group of people wearing white sterile protective suits, looking like researchers, surrounded a white-haired elder and walked quickly off the helicopter.
In just a few minutes, the entire scrapyard was transformed into a heavily guarded temporary military base.
Looking at this display, Lin Yuan's legs began to tremble.
He had never seen so many real guns in his life! This scale was even more exaggerated than what was shown in movies.
He was starting to regret it a little. Had he made things too big? Would the country have to spend hundreds of millions because of his discovery?
Zhang Wei and Li Na hurried forward and saluted the white-haired elder.
"Academician Wang!"
The elder addressed as Academician Wang didn't even look at them. The moment he stepped off the helicopter, his gaze was firmly captured by the black metal plate. He almost ran over to it, his gloved hands repeatedly stroking the metal plate as he muttered incessantly.
"Incredible... this structure... this texture... it's simply a work of art! It's a miracle!"
He was like a madman who had seen a peerless treasure, his eyes filled with fanaticism.
"Quick! Set up the 'Dragon Fang' for me! I want to see where its limit truly lies!" Academician Wang shouted to the assistants behind him without looking back.
Soon, the researchers carried out a uniquely shaped device from a box. The device looked like a small laser cannon, its muzzle aimed at the black metal plate.
"'Dragon Fang Type-2' High-Energy Pulse Laser Cutter," Zhang Wei explained in a low voice beside Lin Yuan. "The strongest single-point destruction device in the military laboratory. Its instantaneous power can reach the megawatt level, capable of vaporizing one-meter-thick homogeneous steel armor in a second."
Lin Yuan's heart pounded with fear as he listened.
Megawatt level? Vaporizing one-meter-thick steel armor? Is this a damn cutter? This is practically a Star Destroyer cannon from a sci-fi movie!
Everyone retreated to a safe distance, leaving only Academician Wang and a few core assistants to operate the equipment.
"Ready!"
"Energy charging complete!"
"Three, two, one, fire!"
At Academician Wang's command, a beam of white light more dazzling than the sun instantly shot from the muzzle of the "Dragon Fang," accurately striking the black metal plate.
There was no sound, no explosion.
Only an extreme, blinding white light.
Lin Yuan felt like his eyes were about to be blinded and quickly shut them.
The light beam lasted for only a short second before vanishing.
When Lin Yuan opened his eyes again, everyone held their breath, staring fixedly at the metal plate.
In the spot hit by the laser, a fist-sized, slightly reddish area appeared. The red glow vanished in a flash, quickly returning to its original deep black.
Academician Wang rushed forward, taking out a magnifying glass and various instruments to carefully inspect that spot.
A few minutes later, he straightened up, a complex expression of ecstasy mixed with frustration on his face as he announced to the people behind him:
"The surface molecular structure was damaged by 0.03 millimeters; no substantial damage was caused. The energy was absorbed... over 99.9% of the energy was absorbed and dissipated by it!"
The entire scene fell into a dead silence.
Everyone was struck speechless by this result.
The strongest cutting equipment in the military laboratory, with a full-power strike, had only left a 'scratch' with a depth of 0.03 millimeters on it?
What on earth was this plate made of?
"A monster... this is simply a monster..." a young researcher murmured absent-mindedly.
Academician Wang took a deep breath. He turned around, his gaze passing through the crowd and landing on Lin Yuan for the first time. His eyes were no longer looking at a metal plate, but at a living person who had created a miracle.
"That young man... is the first person who discovered it?" he asked Zhang Wei beside him.
"Yes, Academician Wang. His name is Lin Yuan, the owner of this scrapyard."
Academician Wang nodded and stepped toward Lin Yuan.
Seeing this national-treasure-level scientist walking toward him, Lin Yuan was incredibly nervous, not knowing where to put his hands.
Academician Wang walked up to him, looked him up and down, and then, in an unprecedentedly solemn tone, asked, "Young man, can you tell us in detail how you obtained this?"
