50: Chapter 50 Captain's Wife, Lin Yuxi.

666th Menial District, Management Hall.

Compared to the dilapidated courtyards where ordinary Menial Laborers lived, the architecture of the Management Hall appeared extremely grand and majestic; the towering courtyard walls and the heavy vermilion gates all served to highlight an oppressive sense of power.

This morning, Qin Feng came to process his official induction and receive his work assignment.

Steward Wang still hadn't appeared; it was rumored that he had gone to the Outer Sect on business.

And that alluring wife of Steward Wang, Yang Liu, was not in the main hall at this time either.

The person responsible for processing Qin Feng's paperwork was a deacon of the Management Hall.

When he saw the black iron token hanging from Qin Feng's waist, as well as the cold Evil Qi faintly radiating from his body, the arrogance on the deacon's face instantly vanished, replaced by a polite, smiling expression.

"Guard Qin, your paperwork has been completed."

The deacon handed a roster to Qin Feng with both hands and said respectfully, "According to the instructions from above, you have been assigned to the Ninth Squad of the Guard Hall. The Ninth Squad's station is on the west side of the Management Hall's backyard; you can go directly there to report to Captain Luo."

"Understood."

Qin Feng nodded indifferently, took the roster, and turned to walk toward the backyard.

The Management Hall's guard forces were divided into eleven squads in total.

Each squad was responsible for patrolling and governing a specific area of the Intermediate Laborer District, which could be considered the cushiest of cushy jobs.

Passing through several corridors, Qin Feng soon arrived in front of a spacious courtyard on the west side.

The courtyard gate was wide open, revealing a small Martial Arts Arena paved with bluestone slabs inside. Weapon racks on both sides were filled with blades, spears, swords, and halberds, and the air was permeated with a pungent smell of sweat and liniment.

At this moment, over a dozen shirtless, burly guards were gathered in groups of two or three on the Martial Arts Arena, sparring or chatting.

Each of these men exuded the formidable blood-Qi fluctuations of someone at least at Mortal Stage 7, their eyes fierce; they were clearly ruthless characters who had crawled out of piles of dead bodies.

"Yo, a newcomer?"

Seeing Qin Feng walk in wearing his brand-new black robes, the guards in the courtyard stopped what they were doing, and dozens of gazes filled with scrutiny, provocation, and mockery fell upon him in unison.

Qin Feng remained expressionless and walked straight to the center of the Martial Arts Arena, his gaze landing on a burly man sitting on a grand chair, who was using a whetstone to polish a massive horse-chopping saber.

This man was over two meters tall, his muscles bulging like granite, and there was an extremely striking cross-shaped scar on his face; a violent aura of blood-Qi pressure flickered faintly around him.

"Are you Captain Luo Kun?" Qin Feng asked, his voice calm as water.

The burly man stopped his movements, slowly raised his head, and scanned Qin Feng up and down with eyes like copper bells, his mouth spreading into a rugged grin.

"That's right, I am the captain of the Ninth Squad, Captain Luo Kun."

Captain Luo Kun casually plunged the horse-chopping saber into the stone slab beside him with a loud "clang," causing the surrounding weapon racks to tremble slightly.

He stood up, walked over to Qin Feng, and looked down at this newcomer who appeared a bit too young and handsome.

"I heard that yesterday on the Martial Arts Arena, some greenhorn named Qin Feng smashed a fool's head to pieces with just three punches?"

Captain Luo Kun raised his rugged eyebrows, his tone filled with undisguised wildness, "Looks like it's you. To make a living in my Ninth Squad, having ruthlessness alone isn't enough; you also have to know the rules."

Qin Feng's eyes were calm, and he was just about to speak.

Just at this moment, a light sound of footsteps suddenly came from the inner door of the courtyard.

Accompanying it was a faint, elegant fragrance of orchids, which instantly dispersed the nauseating smell of sweat on the Martial Arts Arena.

"It's early in the morning, are you scaring the new brother again?"

A gentle, soft female voice, like a spring breeze brushing against willows, rang out abruptly in the tense courtyard.

Hearing this voice, Captain Luo Kun, who had been full of flab and looking fierce just a moment ago, instantly changed his expression; his original wild, domineering aura vanished without a trace, and he even began rubbing his large hands together, chuckling foolishly.

"Wife, why did you come out? It's windy outside, don't catch a cold."

Everyone looked in the direction of the voice.

They saw a young woman in a pale green dress walking slowly out of the inner door.

Her appearance was beautiful and dignified, carrying a gentleness and virtuous air like a big sister next door.

Her long, pitch-black hair was simply tied behind her head, and her skin was as fair as snow; even just standing there, she gave people a sense of tranquility, as if bathed in a spring breeze.

Such an aura, in this Intermediate Laborer District filled with slaughter and blood, was simply like a white lotus blooming in Hell, completely out of place.

She was Captain Luo Kun's wife, Lin Yuxi.

The entire Ninth Squad, and even half the guards of the Management Hall, knew that Captain Luo was a famously doting husband.

Anyone who dared to take more than two glances at his wife would definitely be chopped into meat paste by his horse-chopping saber.

Lin Yuxi was carrying an exquisite bamboo basket in her hand, covered with a layer of white cloth, from which a faint, enticing sweet fragrance of pastries wafted out.

"I saw that a newcomer joined the squad today, and thinking that everyone has been working hard patrolling this morning, I made some osmanthus cakes by hand to bring out for everyone to have a snack."

Lin Yuxi smiled gently, a smile that seemed capable of melting solid ice.

"Many thanks, Sister-in-law! Pastries made by Sister-in-law herself—that's the ultimate delicacy of our Ninth Squad!"

"Haha, Sister-in-law really cares about us; Captain, you are truly blessed!"

The burly men all around immediately burst into cheers, lining up and walking forward in an orderly fashion.

Lin Yuxi lifted the white cloth, revealing pieces of crystal-clear, steaming osmanthus cakes. She gently handed the pastries to each guard, carefully reminding them to eat slowly.

Soon, the pastries in the basket were almost all distributed.

Lin Yuxi carried the bamboo basket and walked with light steps to the front of Qin Feng.

She tilted her head slightly, her eyes, clear as autumn water, looking at Qin Feng, with a kind and gentle smile on her lips.

"You must be the new Brother Qin, right? I heard the Menial Laborers outside mention you; you were really impressive yesterday."

Lin Yuxi's voice was soft and sweet; she reached out with her fair, tender, boneless-looking little hands, picked up the last piece of osmanthus cake from the bamboo basket, and handed it over.

"From now on, we are all brothers in the same squad; if there's anything you don't understand, just ask Old Luo more often. Come, try the pastries I made."

Qin Feng looked at the wife, as gentle as water, before him, his eyes remaining calm.

He didn't say much, just nodded slightly and reached out his right hand to take the osmanthus cake.

However, just as Qin Feng's fingertips inadvertently touched the back of Lin Yuxi's fair, slightly cool hand!

A sudden change occurred...

It was as if dry wood had met a raging fire, or like a magnet encountering black iron.

"Hum—!"

Qin Feng could even clearly feel that the moment his fingertips touched, his blood-Qi, out of his control, underwent a violent shock.

And Lin Yuxi, standing opposite him, had an even more intense reaction...

The moment their skin touched, her originally rosy and gentle cheeks were instantly flooded with a breathtaking flush.

"Ah..."

Lin Yuxi suddenly withdrew her hand as if electrocuted, and the osmanthus cake in her hand fell to the ground with a "plop."

Her body went slightly limp, and she uncontrollably took half a step back, her red lips slightly parted, emitting a moan of uncontrollable, extreme allure.
