6: Even Barrett can't penetrate the steel plate!

The sniper rifle was heavy.

Even for Wang Hu, a tall and burly man, carrying the sniper rifle forward was a struggle.

He reached a spot a hundred meters from the target steel plates.

He carefully set down the new sniper rifle.

This was his precious invention, and he couldn't afford any carelessness.

If he accidentally scratched or chipped its paint, it would be worse than killing him.

He would be emo for days before he could get over it.

After steadying the rifle on its stand, he loaded, chambered a round, and aimed, all in one smooth motion.

Though Wang Hu was a researcher at the institute, his physical fitness and military training were by no means weak.

He had even placed among the top in target shooting competitions back in the day, with impressive marksmanship.

He held his breath, concentrating fully.

The entire world seemed to quiet down at this moment.

In Wang Hu's eyes, there was only the layered steel plate barrier a hundred meters away.

A gentle breeze blew.

He adjusted his stance, and the next second, his index finger on the trigger decisively pulled down.

Bang!

The sound was like thunder.

The recoil also left Wang Hu disoriented.

However, he quickly adapted and immediately brought his eye to the sniper scope.

As the dust cleared, the steel plates a hundred meters away still stood silently.

Wang Hu's heart sank.

He had personally adjusted and calibrated the trajectory of this rifle.

At such a close range, the steel plate still had no bullet holes, which indicated that the trajectory was wildly off.

Adjusting the trajectory was just basic work.

Yet, he hadn't even done this basic task well, which showed he was too careless.

How could he be competent for more important work later with such a situation?

"Let's go, we'll go see where the bullet hit," Wang Hu said to the soldier as he stood up and walked towards the steel plates.

Now was not the time for self-reproach.

The latter nodded and quickly followed.

Behind the target was a small dirt mound.

If the sniper rifle's trajectory was off and didn't hit the steel plates, it would definitely leave a bullet hole in the mound.

By examining the bullet hole in the mound, he could determine the direction of the sniper rifle's trajectory deviation.

Knowing this, adjusting the sniper rifle's trajectory later would be much simpler.

The two searched the mound for a long time but found nothing.

The soldier looked and looked on the mound, still unable to find a single bullet hole on the five-meter-high dirt mound.

Finally, he couldn't help but voice his confusion: "Captain, this isn't right! Logically, this gun's power is immense; it should have left a crater on the slope. But we've searched for so long and haven't found a single crater. Do you think the bullet went flying into the sky?"

Wang Hu, who was slowly examining the mound, paused his steps when he heard this.

"That can't be, right?" His tone was uncertain.

If the trajectory really went that far up, he, as the firearms calibrator, would be too negligent.

He checked twice more; there were indeed no bullet holes on the mound.

Wang Hu then turned to look at the ground.

The ground was dry yellow earth.

Due to years of trampling, it had become compacted and hard, with only a few tenacious weeds occasionally growing.

"Let's look for bullet holes on the ground," he said, then took the lead in searching the ground for bullet holes.

A long while passed.

Under the scorching sun, both were drenched in sweat.

Their entire military-green, form-fitting short sleeves were soaked with perspiration.

The soldier stood beside the stacked steel plate target, raising a hand to wipe the sweat from his forehead: "Captain. We've searched twice repeatedly and haven't found any bullet holes on the ground. Did it really fly into the sky?"

Wang Hu's expression was not good.

However, he did not refute his subordinate's words.

The mound.

The ground.

Both had been searched, and still no bullet holes were found, leaving only one possibility.

Just as the soldier said, the sniper rifle's trajectory was upwards.

This was incredibly off!

"Let's go, let's go, we'll go back and adjust the trajectory, then come back."

Wang Hu walked towards the sniper rifle, which was lying on the ground not far away.

He was eager to correct this basic mistake.

It's never too late to mend the fold after the sheep are lost.

If he was too late and couldn't submit the experimental data to Zhao Zhenghua, he would surely get a lecture.

Seeing this, his subordinate also quickly stepped to follow.

But just as he took a step, he felt something poke his sole.

As he stepped, he subconsciously looked back.

He saw a twisted, deformed piece of metal under the grass leaves, reflecting a faint light under the sun's rays.

The soldier was curious.

He turned around and picked up this thumb-sized metal lump, examining it closely in his hand.

This piece of iron seemed to have been deformed by external impact and compression.

"This is... a bullet?" The soldier blurted out instinctively.

However, this piece of metal was a bit too large; it didn't look like a conventional bullet.

If it were a conventional bullet, even if it was compressed and deformed, it wouldn't be as large as a thumb.

"This... couldn't be the new sniper rifle's bullet, could it?" The soldier suddenly had a bold guess.

Immediately after, he frowned.

"If it's a new type of bullet, how could it become like this? Could it be..."

The soldier's pupils widened slightly, suddenly realizing something.

He quickly approached the target and looked at the steel plates fixed on it.

On the steel plates, three silvery-white marks clearly appeared.

Three marks.

If he remembered correctly, the first time he fired, there was only one mark on it.

But now there were three!

The sniper rifle had also just fired three shots.

Everything before him seemed to be telling a single fact...

These three marks were left by the new sniper rifle's bullets!

In other words, the bullets fired by the sniper rifle not only failed to penetrate the steel plates but didn't even have the ability to slightly deform them!!

"How is this possible?!" The soldier exclaimed, his eyes filled with disbelief.

He froze on the spot, dumbfounded, speechless for a moment.

One must know that the power of the new sniper rifle was far greater than that of traditional firearms.

This gun was specifically designed for armor-piercing.

And now, the bullets from this gun couldn't even penetrate a few flimsy steel plates?!

The soldier was overwhelmed, his heart filled with shock.

Just then, Wang Hu's voice came from a distance.

"What are you doing standing there? Aren't you hot?"

The soldier came to his senses and quickly waved his hand, shouting towards the departing Wang Hu: "Captain! Come quickly!!"

"What are you doing? I still need to go back to the lab to adjust the trajectory. Don't waste my time."

"It's something important, hurry, Captain!"

"You better have a good reason!!"

Seeing the other party's excited and earnest expression, Wang Hu finally put down the gun in his hand and walked over, muttering to himself.

It was the height of summer.

The sun in the blue sky was scorching, making people sweat profusely.

"Captain, look quickly!" As Wang Hu approached, the soldier eagerly extended his hand, palm open, revealing the metal block within.

Wang Hu glanced at it, raising an eyebrow: "Isn't it just a piece of iron? Why are you so excited? You're wasting my time. If I'm too late with the calibration and can't submit my experimental report, and Director Zhao scolds me, then I'll hold you responsible."

Seeing Wang Hu's nonchalant attitude, the soldier immediately understood.

The other party hadn't yet realized the origin of the metal block in his hand.

So he quickly explained: "No, Captain, look closely again. Don't you think this piece of metal is unusual?"

Wang Hu reached out, took it, and examined it again carefully.

He still didn't understand what the soldier meant.

"This piece of iron, isn't it just a bit big? What's different about it?"
