Chapter 126: Hu Xian’er came for visit
Chapter 126: Hu Xian’er came for visitThe morning sun slanted through the carved windows, filling the office with a warm glow. Outside, the steady hum of voices rose from the shop’s hall — customers bargaining; many came searching for the mysterious pills.
Business was booming, exactly as Feng Yun had intended.
Feng Yun was sitting in the top floor person’s chamber when a maid entered and told him some news. That someone wants to see him.
"Immortal Fairy Pavilion..." Feng Yun murmured, setting aside the documents. His lips curved faintly. "So she finally couldn’t resist."
"Let her come up." Feng Yun ordered the maid. After Feng Yun opened the shop, he released a few system pills among the treasures. However, he didn’t sell them openly.
He placed them among the ordinary goods; some lucky ones obtained them at a low price, thinking they had found treasure by chance.
When the door slid open, one figure entered. A tall, slender woman dressed in crimson silk embroidered with phoenix feathers, her movements slow and deliberate, as if each step declared her nobility. A thin veil covered her face, but even through it, the outline of her features was enough to shake hearts.
Hu Xian’er.
The Saintess of the Immortal Fairy Pavilion, the beautiful fairy of the Black Plain City.
"Saintess Hu," Feng Yun greeted, his voice lazy and mocking, though his eyes were sharp with interest. "No escorts today? What a rare honour — you came all this way just for me."
Hu Xian’er’s steps faltered almost imperceptibly before she recovered, her voice calm and dignified. "Don’t misunderstand. I did not come for you
. I came for your pills. The Pavilion has heard rumours... and it is my duty to confirm them."
"Ah." Feng Yun leaned back against his chair, crossing one leg over the other, his gaze deliberately sweeping her figure. "So you did miss me. You just needed an excuse."
Her fingers tightened in her sleeve. A faint flush crept up her cheeks beneath the veil. "Shameless," she muttered.
"Mmm, you’ve said that before." Feng Yun’s lips curved. "In fact, if I remember correctly, you promised you’d never see me again. And yet..." He gestured lightly toward her, the corner of his mouth tilting upward. "Here you are. Alone. In my office. Early in the morning."
Hu Xian’er’s eyes narrowed like a blade, though her voice remained smooth. "Don’t twist words. What happened last time was... an accident."
"Oh? You mean when you tried to trap me, but ended up..." His gaze flickered over her, teasing, bold.
Her breath hitched. Even through her veil, the faint colour at her ears betrayed her. She remembered too well — her carefully planned scheme had been flipped against her, leaving her humiliated, her Saintess dignity shaken in a way no one else had ever dared.
"Feng Yun!" Her tone sharpened, like a whip cracking.
He only chuckled, swirling the teacup in his hand. "Careful, Little Hu, or did you forget your last punishment?"
Hu Xian’er exhaled slowly, reclaiming her composure. She adjusted the veil, hiding her expression behind cold serenity. "Enough of your nonsense. I came because the Pavilion requires confirmation. I have not come alone."
"Oh!" Feng Yun interrupted smoothly. "Oh, so you can threaten me with a mere saint realm protector." His smile deepened, his eyes gleaming with wicked amusement. "Have you forgotten your last punishment? Do you want to fall into my arms a second time?"
Feng Yun already noticed the old woman who followed Hu Xian’er standing outside of the door. Hu Xian’er was the saintess; how could she move outside without protection?
Her body stiffened, heat creeping beneath her skin despite her best control. "You—!"
For a moment, words failed her. She, the Saintess known for her composure, who had silenced kings and nobles with a single glare, could not find a reply to this man.
Feng Yun leaned forward slightly, resting his chin on his palm. His gaze was steady, unyielding, almost predatory. "Darling... Don’t dare to threaten me with your background? I do not fear it. Tell me what brings you here?"
The sound of her name falling from his lips made her chest tighten — too familiar, too daring.
Hu Xian’er drew herself taller, forcing dignity back into her posture. "Business", she said coldly. "Nothing more."
"Of course." Feng Yun’s smirk never wavered. "Then let’s talk business, Darling."
Hu Xian’er sat down in front of him; she took out two items from her storage ring and placed them on the table. One was the pill, and the second was the tea leaf.
Feng Yun recognised the two items, spirit condensation pill and the Silverleaf Spirit Tea. Both are system products, hard to find in the world.
The Spirit Condensation Pill can help a cultivator break through the core formation realm without any setback, while the Silverleaf Spirit Tea can improve the comprehension of a cultivation for a short period of time.
"I want to know the background of these two items; don’t tell me you don’t know. These are the products of your shop." Hu Xian’er stared at him and spoke.
Feng Yun shrugged, his expression as casual as if they were discussing weather rather than treasures capable of stirring sects and dynasties."Yes, these are the products sold in my shop," he admitted lightly. Then, with a faint curve of his lips, he added, "But don’t misunderstand — I didn’t make them. I obtained them from... a certain stranger."
Hu Xian’er’s long lashes lowered slightly, concealing the sharp glint in her eyes. Just as she had expected. This man would never so easily reveal his secrets. Still, the admission alone confirmed one thing: Feng Yun had access to a source beyond the city’s reach, one even the Immortal Fairy Pavilion had never touched.
Her delicate fingers brushed the edge of her sleeve, her voice calm but firm."Do you have more of these pills? If so, I wish to purchase them. The Pavilion is willing to pay double their worth."
Feng Yun’s gaze lingered on her, amused. His eyes were too sharp, too direct, as though he could see through not only her veil but the layers of intention hidden beneath it.
"Double the amount, hm?" He leaned back in his chair, tapping the armrest lazily with one finger. "Tell me, Xian’er... is it the Immortal Fairy Pavilion that’s interested in these pills?" His tone dipped, slow and deliberate. "Or is it the Phoenix Dynasty?"
She did not confirm nor deny it, so she answered with a cold smile in her tone."Whoever is interested, what does it matter? Business is business. You sell, I buy. What lies beyond that should not concern you."
But Feng Yun only leaned forward, resting his chin on his hand. His smile grew, slow and dangerous."On the contrary, Saintess, it concerns me very much. Because whoever wants these pills... will owe me. And I prefer to know exactly who will be in my debt."
