94: Upgrading and strengthening medical security

Lin Wei's finger paused on the terminal as the log playback ended. She looked up at Su Wan: "It's the signal that the new diagnostic instrument has completed its self-check. The frequency matches the main system, no problem."

Su Wan stood at the door of the medical pod, her hand still on the replay button of the communication panel. Hearing this, she slowly released her hand, her shoulders relaxing slightly.

"So it was that," she said.

Chen Wang squatted next to the multi-functional diagnostic instrument; its power light was still off. He touched the connection port; the casing was a bit warm.

"The voltage is unstable, and the protection mechanism has activated," he said. "This instrument is very precise. The kindling system's electricity is too strong; a direct connection would burn out the motherboard."

Lin Wei walked over and glanced at the wiring diagram: "We can't change the main power supply. The command area was just adjusted; moving it again could cause errors."

"Then add a buffer," Chen Wang stood up and walked towards the tool cabinet. "I remember there's an old car refrigerator's voltage regulator in the trunk. We can take it apart and use it."

Five minutes later, he took out a small circuit board with a heat sink and handed it to Lin Wei. Lin Wei took it and quickly soldered it to the input end of the diagnostic instrument.

"Try it?" she asked.

Chen Wang pressed the power button.

Beep—

The green light turned on, and the screen began to boot, displaying: [System initializing, please wait].

The three stared at the screen until [Device operating normally] appeared.

"It's on," Lin Wei whispered.

Su Wan walked into the medical pod and opened the control panel. The holographic projection expanded, displaying vital sign monitoring, blood analysis, and minimally invasive surgery guidance.

"From now on, we can perform deep debridement, vascular suturing, and even minor organ removal," she said. "As long as it's not the heart or brain, we can save them."

Chen Wang watched her place the last bottle of antitoxin serum into the constant temperature cabinet. As the cabinet door closed, a prompt sounded.

"Not enough space," Su Wan frowned. "Highly sensitive drugs need to be stored separately. If the temperature difference exceeds 0.5 degrees, they become ineffective. The current cold storage area can only fit two-thirds."

Lin Wei pulled out the data for the space-folding module: "I can add a miniature energy storage ring at the bottom and use folding technology to create an independent temperature-controlled zone. It will be small, but it can maintain low temperatures."

"How many survival points?" Chen Wang asked.

"Two hundred," Lin Wei said. "That's just enough to unlock the primary storage AI and also solve the problem of drug registration."

Chen Wang nodded, opened the kindling system interface, and consumed the survival points.

A blue light scanned the medicine rack, and all medicines were automatically identified and entered into the database. A classification list popped up on the screen: antibiotics, painkillers, coagulants, anti-radiation drugs... "Add a rotation reminder function," Su Wan said. "Highlight medicines nearing expiration for priority use."

She set the rules, and the system immediately generated this week's medication plan.

"Done," she said, placing the last bottle of serum into the newly activated constant temperature zone and gently closing the door. "Now, we truly have the ability to 'bring people back to life'."

Lin Wei sat down at the engineering console and began debugging the training system.

"Next is skill transfer," she said. "You can't be the only one handling injuries."

Su Ling stood next to the training dummy, her gloves already on, but she didn't move.

"Last time, during the simulated cardiac arrest, I didn't dare to press," she said. "I was afraid of breaking its ribs."

"That's a model; it won't break," Su Wan said. "Now entering risk-free training mode."

A voice prompt sounded: [Patient has no breathing, no carotid pulse. Immediately perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.]

"Thirty chest compressions, two rescue breaths," Su Wan said from the side. "Maintain a steady rhythm, five to six centimeters deep."

Su Ling took a deep breath and began compressions.

One, two, three.

The machine gave feedback: [Compression force qualified] [Continuous rhythm stable]

She completed five cycles, her forehead sweating when she stopped.

"Success," Su Wan said. "System record: CPR operation up to standard."

Lin Wei walked to another training area, facing a limb model simulating an open fracture.

"Last time, when modifying the energy core, I miscalculated the data, leading to buffer failure," she said. "I... I don't really dare to act now."

"This isn't fixing a machine," Su Wan said. "This is saving lives. The steps are clear, and there are prompts for each one."

She started the program: [Open fracture of the right leg, requires hemostasis, fixation, and infection prevention.]

Lin Wei picked up the tourniquet and wrapped it around the model's upper thigh.

"Tighten it," Su Wan said. "Until there's no distal pulse."

Lin Wei fastened it tightly with a click.

"Accurate positioning," Su Wan nodded. "Even steadier than calibrating a gun."

Next were debridement, bandaging, and splinting. The entire process took fifteen minutes, and the system finally displayed: [Treatment complete, meets standards]

"I did it," Lin Wei said, her voice trembling slightly as she took off her gloves.

"You all did it," Su Wan said. "From now on, if anyone gets injured, you don't have to wait for me to arrive. As long as someone knows this procedure, there's a chance to survive."

Chen Wang stood by the driver's seat, holding the newly printed medical operation report.

"Before, the vehicle was at most a first-aid station," he said. "Now it's different."

He clipped the report into the document slot on the side of the control panel and looked up at the holographic screen.

The medical area status bar showed: [Life support system stable] [Medicine inventory synchronized] [All-staff first aid training progress 100%]

Su Ling took off her gloves and placed them on the operating table. She glanced at the empty sickbed, then turned and walked towards the armory.

Lin Wei saved the training video to the system, naming it: [hope Basic Rescue Manual V1.0]

She rubbed her eyes, a slight smile playing on her lips.

Su Wan turned off the main lights, leaving only a night light on. She reached out and touched the wall, where a line of text was carved: 7th Survivor, 2043.11.06

"Next time," she said, "no one will die on the road again."

The vehicle was quiet.

The equipment hummed steadily, and the air circulation system whirred softly.

Chen Wang sat in the driver's seat, reviewing the latest medical log. The last page read: [Executable Surgery Types: Debridement, Amputation, Laparotomy, Extracranial Hematoma Drainage]

He closed the file, and the intercom suddenly rang.

"Medical system self-check complete, all normal," Su Wan's voice came through.

Chen Wang pressed the talk button: "Received."

He looked up at the armored glass ahead. Outside was a snowfield; the wind was light, and snowflakes drifted diagonally.

Lin Wei was organizing the engineering log, Su Ling was wiping her goggles with a cloth, and Su Wan was checking the infusion pump flow rate in the medical pod.

Chen Wang looked down, his finger scrolling through the kindling system's to-do list.

The first item was: [Maintenance Cycle Reminder - Medical Module Filter Replacement: 71 hours remaining]
