460: Chapter 460 Disciples of the Sword Sect
The lobby of the Star-Plucking Pavilion.
The atmosphere, which had stagnated due to Gu Changsheng passing by earlier, had finally eased.
The guests picked up their chopsticks again and began to converse in low voices.
Shopkeeper Qian stood behind the counter, fiddling with his abacus, the cold sweat on his forehead not yet dry.
A young man in green robes strode across the threshold.
He carried a long sword on his back, and the hem of his robe was embroidered with the pattern of a small sword pointing straight to the sky.
With his chin slightly raised, he didn't look at anyone in the lobby and walked straight to the counter.
Clap.
A token was slapped onto the counter.
The token was neither gold nor wood; the two large characters 'Xuantian' were carved on it, radiating an extremely sharp Sword Intent.
Several well-informed Loose Cultivators in the lobby saw the token, and their expressions changed instantly.
Not even bothering to pay for their meals, they lowered their heads and slipped out the door.
Taixu World, Xuantian Sword Sect.
In the surrounding worlds, this was an absolutely dominant power.
Shopkeeper Qian looked at the token, and the abacus in his hands stopped.
He quickly hurried out from behind the counter, his Face wearing a professional smile.
"Young Master, are you looking to stay at the inn?"
The young man in green was named Chen Feng.
He put away the token and looked around the lobby.
"Too noisy." Chen Feng frowned.
"Clear everyone out of this lobby within half an incense stick of time. My master will be here soon, and he prefers quiet."
Once these words were spoken, the dozens of remaining guests in the lobby were stunned.
Telling them to get lost?
Those who could afford to spend at the Star-Plucking Pavilion all had some background or strength.
Being driven away by a single sentence from a young man, how could they save Face?
A burly Body Cultivator with a Face full of flesh stood up, slamming the table.
"Kid, who do you think you are? When I was making a name for myself in Falling Star City, you were still wearing split-crotch pants!"
"So what if you're from the Xuantian Sword Sect? This is the Shattered Star Sea; it's not your place to act wild!"
Chen Feng didn't even look at the Body Cultivator.
He brought his right index and middle fingers together and casually slashed backward.
Clang.
An extremely crisp sword chime rang out.
The Body Cultivator didn't even have time to react before his chest was sliced open by an invisible Sword Qi.
His protective True Qi instantly collapsed, and he flew backward, smashing three tables and lying on the ground twitching.
The entire room fell silent.
Chen Feng turned to look at Shopkeeper Qian, his tone flat.
"Half an incense stick remaining."
Shopkeeper Qian swallowed hard and quickly waved at the waiters.
The waiters immediately stepped forward, persuading and shooing all the remaining guests out.
In less than half an incense stick of time, the lobby was empty.
Chen Feng found a clean table, sat down, and unslung the long sword from his back, placing it on the table.
"Shopkeeper, prepare your best private room. Heaven Number One, right?"
"My master, Sovereign Ling Wuji, will be resting there tonight."
The smile on Shopkeeper Qian's Face froze.
Of course, the thing he feared most had to happen.
The Heaven Number One room had just been assigned to that mysterious Sovereign.
Ling Wuji of the Xuantian Sword Sect was famous for being short-tempered and overprotective of his own.
With a cultivation base at the Middle Stage of the Dao Embryo Realm, he could walk sideways in the surrounding Star Domains.
But the person upstairs was definitely no pushover either.
If these two sides clashed, the Star-Plucking Pavilion would surely be torn down today.
"This..." Shopkeeper Qian rubbed his hands, stammering, "Young Master Chen, it's really unfortunate. The Heaven Number One room has already been occupied by a guest."
Chen Feng raised an eyebrow.
"Occupied? Make them Move out. The Xuantian Sword Sect is booking it; I'll pay double the Star Stones."
Shopkeeper Qian was on the verge of tears.
"Young Master Chen, it's not a matter of Star Stones. The guest inside is also a Sovereign. This humble one... I really don't dare to drive them out."
Chen Feng picked up the tea the waiter had just poured, his movements pausing.
"A Sovereign?"
He looked Shopkeeper Qian up and down.
"Where did this Sovereign come from? What's his name? What's his background?"
Shopkeeper Qian shook his head repeatedly.
"This humble one does not know. That person looks very unfamiliar and doesn't carry any tokens indicating his identity."
"He only said he had been in secluded cultivation for many years and had just come out to travel."
After listening, Chen Feng scoffed.
"Secluded for many years? I think he's just some Loose Cultivator who crawled out of some backwater place."
"In this Shattered Star Sea, every Tom, Dick, and Harry dares to call himself a Sovereign."
Chen Feng put down the teacup and stood up.
"Since you won't drive him out, I'll go reason with this Sovereign myself."
"I want to see if he dares to occupy my master's spot."
Shopkeeper Qian was horrified and quickly blocked the stairs.
"Young Master Chen, you mustn't! I don't know what kind of temper that person has; if you offend him, this Star-Plucking Pavilion won't be able to survive!"
Chen Feng gave a backhand push, shoving Shopkeeper Qian aside.
"Get lost. The way the Xuantian Sword Sect conducts itself is not for a shopkeeper like you to teach."
Carrying his sword, Chen Feng strode up the stairs.
Although he was arrogant, he was not stupid.
Since the opponent was in the Dao Embryo Realm, he, a Golden Core Perfection, naturally couldn't fight head-on.
But behind him stood the Xuantian Sword Sect, and Ling Wuji at the Middle Stage of the Dao Embryo Realm.
In this Star Domain, who would dare not give Face to the Xuantian Sword Sect?
Even if the opponent was a Sovereign, upon hearing the name of the Xuantian Sword Sect, he would have to obediently give up the private room.
Chen Feng arrived at the top floor.
The stone door of the Heaven Number One room was tightly shut, surrounded by isolation Formations.
Chen Feng stopped outside the door and cleared his throat.
"Listen up, you inside. I am Chen Feng, a Disciple of the Xuantian Sword Sect from the Taixu World."
"My master, Sovereign Ling Wuji, is about to arrive in Falling Star City. My master wants this Heaven Number One room."
The room was quiet, with no response.
Chen Feng's brows furrowed even tighter.
"If Your Excellency is sensible, come out now, and the Xuantian Sword Sect will owe you a favor. If you are not sensible..."
Before he could finish his sentence.
Inside the room, Gu Changsheng sat cross-legged on the jade bed, toying with the ruler in his hand.
He heard the commotion outside clearly.
Xuantian Sword Sect? Ling Wuji?
The system panel had just indicated that this Ling Wuji was also coming for the Spirit-Slashing Guillotine in the Myriad Dharma Immortal Tomb.
Gu Changsheng didn't intend to clash with these people now, as his main target was the Void Green Lotus.
But this Disciple running outside to clamor was truly noisy.
Gu Changsheng didn't even lift his head; he lightly flicked his finger toward the stone door of the room.
A cyan-gold Law fluctuation pierced through the stone door and struck Chen Feng directly in the chest.
This fluctuation was extremely weak, causing no spatial tremors, and it didn't even trigger the isolation Formations outside the room.
But when it hit Chen Feng, the effect was completely different.
Chen Feng only felt an irresistible force slam into him.
His proud Sword Dao True Qi couldn't even withstand a single breath against this power and instantly collapsed.
He flew backward and slammed heavily into the wall at the end of the corridor.
A human-shaped indentation was smashed into the wall.
Chen Feng slid to the ground, gasping for air, without even the strength to crawl up.
He stared at the tightly shut stone door with horror on his Face.
The opponent hadn't even spoken, yet with just a basic Law fluctuation, he had crippled half of his strength.
This level of control over the Laws was definitely not that of an ordinary Loose Cultivator!
"Get lost."
A flat voice came from the room.
Chen Feng gritted his teeth and managed to stand up by leaning against the wall.
He didn't dare to make any more threats and stumbled down the stairs.
Shopkeeper Qian stood at the top of the stairs, watching Chen Feng's disheveled appearance, and gasped.
It was over.
They had completely formed a grudge now.
The people of the Xuantian Sword Sect had suffered a loss; Ling Wuji would definitely not let this go.
Just then.
Above Falling Star City, the originally calm Void Realm suddenly twisted violently.
An extremely sharp Sword Intent, as if it were going to split the entire city in two, descended from the sky.
The defensive Formation of the entire Falling Star City creaked under the weight of this Sword Intent, unable to bear it.
"Who dares to hurt my Disciple, Ling Wuji!"
A voice filled with boundless rage exploded in the ears of everyone in the city.
The Void Realm above the firmament was forcibly torn open, creating a huge crack.
An old man in white robes with white hair and beard stepped out from the crack.
On his back, he carried an ancient, sheathless long sword, and his entire body radiated a chilling, sharp aura.
Elder of the Taixu World's Xuantian Sword Sect, Sovereign of the Middle Stage of the Dao Embryo Realm, Ling Wuji.
As soon as Ling Wuji appeared, all the Cultivators in Falling Star City felt difficulty breathing, as if countless invisible sharp swords were hanging over their heads.
He looked down at the Star-Plucking Pavilion below.
His Divine Thought instantly swept across the entire pavilion, locking onto Chen Feng, who was panting while leaning against the stairs.
Seeing his Disciple's aura withered and his True Qi dissipated, Ling Wuji's expression instantly turned gloomy to the extreme.
"How bold!"
Ling Wuji snorted coldly, his figure flickered, and he appeared directly in the lobby of the Star-Plucking Pavilion.
Shopkeeper Qian was so scared that he knelt on the ground, his whole body shaking like a sieve.
"Master!" Seeing Ling Wuji, Chen Feng hurried to greet him, pointing upstairs.
"Disciple was ordered to book a private room, but the person upstairs not only refused, but also relied on his cultivation to sneak-attack me!"
"You must uphold justice for me!"
Ling Wuji checked Chen Feng's injuries.
Law backlash, Meridians damaged.
Although not fatal, this slap to the Face was too loud.
When a Disciple of the Xuantian Sword Sect travels, who dares not show some Face?
The other party clearly knew Chen Feng was his Disciple, yet still struck with such heavy hands. This was clearly not holding him, Ling Wuji, in any regard.
"Useless thing, you are an embarrassment. Stand aside."
Ling Wuji scolded Chen Feng, then turned to look at the stairs leading to the top floor.
He did not rush up immediately.
At the Dao Embryo Realm, no one acts rashly. Since the other party dared to do this, they must have something to rely on.
Ling Wuji released his Divine Thought, probing toward the Heaven No. 1 private room.
As soon as his Divine Thought touched the stone door of the private room, it was like a clay ox entering the sea, disappearing without a trace.
Ling Wuji frowned.
He increased his Divine Thought output, attempting to forcibly break through the private room's isolation Formation.
But no matter how hard he tried, there was only a void behind that stone door; he could sense nothing.
"Playing tricks."
Ling Wuji retracted his Divine Thought, hands clasped behind his back, his voice imbued with True Qi as it surged toward the top floor.
"Your Excellency has impressive methods. What kind of skill is it to bully a Junior? Since you are also a fellow of the Dao Embryo Realm, why not come out and meet me to clear things up?"
Inside the private room, Gu Changsheng retracted the heaven-veiling cloth into his body.
Ling Wuji's Divine Thought probe had been completely blocked by the heaven-veiling cloth.
He picked up the tea on the table, which had already gone cold, and took a sip.
"Clear things up?" Gu Changsheng's voice passed through the door, reaching everyone's ears clearly. "Your Disciple ran to my door and started shouting. The fact that I didn't kill him on the spot was already giving you plenty of Face."
As soon as these words were spoken, the air in the lobby dropped to freezing point.
Chen Feng's eyes widened.
Was this person insane? To be so arrogant in front of his master!
Ling Wuji laughed in sheer anger.
"Good! Very good! This old man has roamed the Taixu Realm for tens of thousands of years, and I have never seen someone as arrogant as you."
Ling Wuji took a step forward.
The floor tiles in the lobby instantly turned to powder.
"I'd like to see just how much weight you carry, to dare not hold the Xuantian Sword Sect in any regard!"
Ling Wuji formed a sword seal with his right hand. The ancient longsword behind him let out a crisp hum, flew out on its own, and hovered in mid-air.
The terrifying pressure of the Dao Embryo Middle Stage was released without reservation.
The defensive Formation of the Zhaixing Building began to collapse one by one.
Manager Qian lay on the ground, closing his eyes in despair. This building really wouldn't survive today.
Inside the private room, Gu Changsheng stood up and brushed off his clothes.
He hadn't intended to cause trouble, but since this old man had come to his door, he didn't mind using him to test the current power of the liangtian ruler.
It was the perfect opportunity to establish his prestige in the Shattered Star Sea, so that any stray cat or dog wouldn't come bothering him in the future.
"Want to see how much weight I carry?"
Gu Changsheng walked to the private room door and pushed it open.
He stood on the second-floor corridor, looking down at Ling Wuji in the lobby.
"Come up and try, and you'll find out."
Their gazes met.
The moment Ling Wuji saw Gu Changsheng, he had the strange feeling that he couldn't see through him at all.
The other party was standing right there, yet he seemed to have merged with the world, without a single flaw.
In particular, the black ruler in his hand—though it emitted no fluctuations—made Ling Wuji's Sword Heart scream with warnings.
His intuition told him that the ruler was extremely dangerous.
"Who exactly are you?" Ling Wuji didn't attack immediately, asking in a deep voice instead.
In this Star Domain, he knew or had heard of almost all the Star Lords of the Dao Embryo Realm.
But he had absolutely no impression of the young man before him.
Gu Changsheng toyed with the liangtian ruler in his hand.
"My name is Lin Xiren. Just a Loose Cultivator passing by."
A Loose Cultivator? Ling Wuji didn't believe it for a second.
What kind of Loose Cultivator could possess such demeanor, or bring out a true treasure that made even him feel palpitations?
"No matter who you are, you must pay the price for injuring a Disciple of my Xuantian Sword Sect." Ling Wuji pointed his sword seal.
The longsword hovering in mid-air instantly turned into a streak of light, shooting straight toward Gu Changsheng's Face.
This strike had no flashy Moves, only the purest speed and destructive power. Wherever the sword light passed, space was torn directly into a black fissure.
Gu Changsheng stood where he was, not even intending to dodge.
He raised his right hand and casually swung the liangtian ruler at the incoming sword light.
There was no explosion of True Qi, nor any deafening roar.
A subtle black radiance flashed across the edge of the liangtian ruler.
That sword light, capable of severely injuring an ordinary Dao Embryo Early Stage Cultivator, was sliced in two the moment it touched the black radiance.
The sword light dissipated, turning into Spiritual Qi filling the air.
The ancient longsword let out a mournful cry and flew back into Ling Wuji's hand. A rice-sized notch had appeared on the blade.
Ling Wuji stared at the longsword in his hand, his Face full of disbelief.
His life-bound Flying Sword had actually been notched by the other party's casual strike!
What level of Magic Treasure was that black ruler?
"Is that it?" Gu Changsheng looked at Ling Wuji. "The Xuantian Sword Sect's swordsmanship doesn't look like much."
Chen Feng was stunned on the sidelines. His master was at the Dao Embryo Middle Stage! A full-strength strike had been neutralized by the other party so casually?
Ling Wuji's Face flushed red. He was a dignified Elder of the Xuantian Sword Sect; if he couldn't take down a nameless nobody at the Dao Embryo Early Stage today, how could he ever show his Face in the Star Domain again!
"Arrogant brat!" Ling Wuji was completely enraged.
He gripped the sword hilt with both hands, and the Dao Embryo Origin within him surged wildly.
A Sword Intent ten times stronger than before shot into the sky, tearing the roof of the Zhaixing Building right off.
Every Cultivator in Meteor City saw the massive sword shadow that pierced the heavens and the earth.
"Ten Thousand Swords Return to Origin!" Ling Wuji roared. The massive sword shadow instantly split into thousands of tiny Flying Swords, pouring down toward Gu Changsheng like a torrential rain.
Gu Changsheng looked at the rain of swords filling the sky and shook his head.
"Is that it?"
He didn't defend himself, but instead jumped down from the second floor, heading straight into the rain of swords.
In mid-air, the liangtian ruler in Gu Changsheng's hand suddenly flared with a blinding black light. The Law of Destruction erupted violently.
Gu Changsheng slashed down hard at Ling Wuji below.
The black radiance from the ruler instantly overwhelmed all the sword light. The moment the dense swarm of Flying Swords touched that radiance, they turned into nothingness.
The radiance, its momentum undiminished, carried a domineering force capable of severing all things as it bore down on Ling Wuji's head.
Ling Wuji sensed a fatal threat. He finally realized that he had kicked an iron plate.
This was no mere Dao Embryo Early Stage; this was definitely an old monster who had hidden his cultivation!
Ling Wuji bit his tongue and spat out a mouthful of blood essence, condensing a sword shield before him.
Boom! The ruler's radiance slammed into the sword shield.
The sword shield only lasted for half a breath before shattering completely.
Ling Wuji was sent flying by the terrifying force, crashing through the wall of the Zhaixing Building and slamming into the street below, creating a massive crater.
Dust and smoke rose into the air. Gu Changsheng landed steadily in the center of the lobby and put away the liangtian ruler.
Chen Feng sat paralyzed on the ground, staring at the large hole in the wall with a blank mind. His invincible master had been defeated? And so thoroughly, at that.
Gu Changsheng walked over to Chen Feng and looked down at him.
"Now, do you still want this private room?"
Chen Feng shook his head frantically and scrambled away.
In the crater on the street, Ling Wuji crawled out, his hair disheveled. There was a wound on his chest, blood seeping from it.
He stared fixedly at Gu Changsheng in the lobby, his eyes filled with dread and fear. "Who exactly are you!"
Gu Changsheng walked to the door and leaned against the frame.
"I already told you, just a Loose Cultivator passing by. What, do you still want to fight?"
Ling Wuji gritted his teeth, saying nothing. He had lost today. If he kept fighting, he would lose his life here.
"We shall meet again. Ling will remember your lesson today, Your Excellency."
Ling Wuji left behind this parting remark, grabbed Chen Feng, turned into a streak of sword light, and fled Meteor City without looking back.
Gu Changsheng looked in the direction they had fled and curled his lips. They ran fast enough.
He turned to look at Manager Qian, who was cowering in the corner.
"Manager, the damage to this building—charge it to them. That's not a problem, right?"
Manager Qian nodded repeatedly. "No problem! Absolutely no problem! Please, sir, go inside. No one will dare to disturb the Heaven No. 1 private room!"
Just as Gu Changsheng returned to the private room and prepared to continue deducing his Cultivation Technique, a fluctuation suddenly came from the Karma within him.
Gu Changsheng paused. Had something happened in the Nine Provinces?
