86: Chapter 86 Nott's letter was dirty.
"He even included the rumors about Azkaban."
The door knocker finished listening to the letter and chuckled first.
"It's a pity that even if Black wants to break out of prison, he can't find the person he needs to bite."
Allen spread the parchment on the desk, not in a hurry to reply.
Nott's way of writing letters was very cautious. Each piece of information was split into two layers: the surface layer was for ordinary inspectors to see, while the inner layer was hidden within the fibers, only readable by scanning it with spatial displacement.
Lucius frequently entered and exited the Ministry of Magic; the surface layer mentioned school board affairs, but the inner layer added a sentence that he was in contact with several conservative officials, discussing "bloodline tendencies in magic education."
Regarding the rumors about Black, the surface layer looked like gossip, while the inner layer wrote that there had been abnormal guard rotations at Azkaban recently, and someone was deliberately leaking the news.
As for the whispers near the girls' lavatory, the surface layer only mentioned ghost pranks, while the inner layer added the words "Parseltongue" and "Chamber of Secrets."
Nott was unlike Draco.
He wouldn't state every guess fully, nor would he be in a rush to seek praise.
What he delivered were threads that allowed one to keep digging deeper.
The family crest spoke up.
"The Nott family has connections to the old Death Eater circle; his summer news may not necessarily be clean."
"Dirty news is the only kind that's useful."
Allen circled the item about Lucius.
"Malfoy is frequently active at the Ministry of Magic, which may not be separate from the trouble in the second year."
The door knocker was puzzled.
"Can he still shove a snake into the school?"
Allen paused his pen for a moment.
"He doesn't need to shove a snake, he just needs to shove a book."
The door knocker didn't understand.
But the family crest asked.
"What have you thought of?"
"It's just a guess for now."
He didn't write down the diary.
Lucius would stuff Lord Voldemort's old artifact into Ginny Weasley's cauldron to open the Chamber of Secrets.
In the original timeline, this incident looked like Malfoy's political retaliation against the Weasley Family, but based on the intelligence Allen had, Lucius was pushing for "Pure-blood Priority" at the Ministry of Magic this year. If the Chamber of Secrets incident erupted, there would be many beneficiaries.
And the danger would also be greater.
Because Peter was no longer by Ron's bedside, the original timeline of Sirius's prison break had been interrupted by him in advance.
Lord Voldemort's soul fragment had seen the branch of the Potter family that "took a Killing Curse head-on" on the night of the Philosopher's Stone, and was now wary of unknown powers.
Would the teenage Lord Voldemort in the diary deviate because of this, unable to act according to the original timeline?
Allen's quill stopped in front of "Ginny Weasley."
The door knocker joined in the excitement.
"Who is Ginny?"
"The youngest daughter of the Weasley Family, enrolling this year."
"You haven't even gotten the list of new students yet, and you're already planning to watch her?"
"She will be very troublesome."
The family crest reminded him.
"Watching too closely will expose you."
"That's why I'm having Nott watch the source of the rumors, not her personally. Ginny is just a secondary target."
The door knocker muttered.
"You call that secondary?"
Allen took out another thin piece of parchment and wrote the letter in the most ordinary student handwriting.
Theodore:
If you have finished your summer homework, you can continue to keep an eye on three things.
First, which house the rumors about the Chamber of Secrets started in.
Second, who was the first person to hear whispers near the girls' lavatory.
Third, confirm whether Ginny of the Weasley Family is enrolled in the second-year student list.
Do not approach the Ministry of Magic, do not get involved in the rumors about Azkaban, and do not mention Black to Draco.
Additionally, regarding Lucius Malfoy's affairs, only record them, do not evaluate them.
After Allen finished writing, he added one more sentence.
If anyone asks, just say you are researching the activity range of the ghosts at Hogwarts.
The door knocker finished reading and laughed with a metallic ring.
"Activity range of ghosts? Will Nott put up with that?"
"He will put up with it."
"Why?"
"Because he also wants to know about the Chamber of Secrets."
The family crest shined on the wall.
"Nott will suspect that you mastered the clues in advance."
"He already suspected it."
Allen rolled up the letter; he didn't use the Potter family crest for the wax seal, but just pressed a regular dot.
He walked to the window, and a spare owl from Potter Manor flew in from under the eaves, grabbing the letter tube with its claws.
"Deliver this to Theodore Nott. Do not stop near Malfoy Manor."
The owl pecked at his glove and spread its wings to leave.
The door knocker asked.
"What about Draco? Aren't you going to tell him his dad is busy at the Ministry of Magic?"
"Wait for him to write a letter himself."
"Will he write?"
"Lucius told him to stay away from me; he won't be able to hold back for many days."
The family crest suddenly reminded him.
"There is someone outside the manor."
Allen raised his hand, and the curtains closed.
"Who?"
"A Muggle postman. He is carrying a letter sent from St. Marys Orphanage."
The door knocker's tone immediately turned nasty.
"The orphanage? Those people still dare to write?"
Allen walked to the front hall.
The door knocker spat the letter into the copper tray. The envelope was rough, the address was written crookedly, and the recipient was "Mr. Allen Potter, Potter Manor."
Mrs. Martha's handwriting.
Allen opened it.
The letter first complained that the orphanage lost its subsidies after he left, then said that someone had come to inquire about his "abnormal behavior" when he was a child, and hoped that if he was living a good life, he could give back to the institution that raised him.
The door knocker got angrier the more it heard.
"Raised? She almost locked you in the storage room!"
The family crest's voice was low.
"Someone inquired about your abnormal behavior when you were a child. Who was it?"
Allen turned to the end of the letter.
There was no signature.
Mrs. Martha only wrote "a kind gentleman wearing a round hat."
The door knocker cursed even louder.
"A 'kind gentleman' doesn't sound like a good thing."
Allen put the letter into the brazier.
"Dumbledore wouldn't go to the orphanage in person. He would find someone to probe indirectly."
The family crest asked.
"Do you want to deal with Mrs. Martha?"
"No need. The greedier she is, the less reliable her testimony becomes."
The door knocker was still not satisfied.
"Just let her ask for money?"
Allen picked up his quill and wrote a Muggle letter back to the orphanage.
Mrs. Martha:
Thank you for your letter. Regarding subsidies and donations, please contact Gringotts or relevant legal personnel. Regarding my childhood experiences, if you state them to outsiders, please ensure they do not involve abuse, corporal punishment, illegal seizure of a child's property, etc., otherwise I will consider hiring a lawyer to revisit St. Marys Orphanage.
Wishing you health.
Allen Potter
The door knocker finished reading and finally calmed down.
"What is a lawyer?"
"A Muggle version of a Ministry of Magic debt collector."
"Good stuff."
Allen handed the letter to the special channel for Muggle postmen.
The family crest pondered.
"Dumbledore is looking for traces of your abilities from the past."
"Let him look. All they saw at the orphanage was things moving on their own, door locks malfunctioning, and glasses that wouldn't break."
"Your spatial talent will be exposed."
"Exposing a little bit of talent is better than exposing Absolute Defense."
The door knocker chimed in.
"Are you really prepared to act out small mistakes in your second year?"
Allen returned to the study and took out the list of second-year textbooks.
"Mess up a Potion once, mispronounce a spell twice in Charms Class, and hand in an essay late for Transfiguration Class."
The door knocker was confused.
"Can this even be arranged?"
"Draco will remind me not to overdo it."
"He's quite useful."
Just as Allen wrote down Draco's name, another owl slammed into the glass outside the window.
With a bang.
The door knocker almost laughed itself silly.
"Speak of the devil."
This owl was golden-brown, its feathers groomed more neatly than an ordinary bird, and a silver-green ribbon was tied to its leg. A bird from the Malfoy Family, even when slamming into a window, did it with family style.
Allen opened the window, the owl hooted in dissatisfaction and dropped a thick roll of parchment onto the table.
The wax seal was the Malfoy Family "M."
The door knocker commented in a low voice.
"The resentment is heavier than the rain."
Allen opened it.
Draco's handwriting was much sloppier than usual, and it began with:
Allen, my father thinks that I was led astray by you last year.
