76: The truth seen in Chapter 76
For some time now, Qi Xinyue had been restless and furious because of the matter involving Jiesha.
Her heart was set solely on catching Jiesha to vent the frustration within her.
She had neglected her precious son, and it hadn't even crossed her mind that she hadn't seen Shen Wen for quite a few days.
Now, seeing Shen Wen rush in anxiously, she assumed her precious son had encountered some other troublesome matter.
Shen Wen ignored Qi Xinyue's words because, upon entering, he had smelled a pungent odor.
A careful observation made it easy to see the lingering flush on Qi Xinyue's face, and combined with her evasive gaze, she looked exactly like someone with a guilty conscience.
If it were in the past, Shen Wen certainly wouldn't have thought much of it, let alone considered that possibility.
But now, having convinced himself that he had unraveled the mystery of his parentage, Shen Wen couldn't help but let his imagination run wild.
Suddenly, Shen Wen saw something; a very conspicuous string of Buddhist prayer beads on Qi Xinyue's bedside table caught his eye.
Shen Wen bypassed Qi Xinyue, rushed to the bedside, and grabbed the jade pendant.
It was a very familiar feeling.
Because he had seen this string of prayer beads just a few days ago.
On the day he met Jiesha, the man had been wearing just such a string of bright red prayer beads on his wrist.
It had only been a few days, and now this string of prayer beads appeared on his mother Qi Xinyue's bedside table.
Could such a coincidence really exist in this world?
Even if he were beaten to death, Shen Wen wouldn't want to believe it.
Seeing Shen Wen silent, with a strange expression, his gaze fixed on the prayer beads, Qi Xinyue's face changed drastically, and a sense of unease flooded her heart.
Because this jade pendant was indeed something left behind by that philandering monk, Jiesha, who claimed it was a token of love for her.
If Shen Wen kept harping on the pendant and even wanted to investigate further, and Shen Congwu sensed something was wrong, then the trouble would be immense.
"Shen Wen, you rushed back so anxiously and are acting so strangely. Did you suffer some grievance outside? Hurry and tell Mom, where have you been these past few days, and what happened?"
Qi Xinyue did not want her son to bring up the matter of the pendant, so she hurriedly found an excuse, hoping to divert Shen Wen's attention.
Shen Wen gave a dismissive cold laugh, picked up the prayer beads, and said with a playful tone, "Mom, why have I never seen this string of prayer beads before? Where did it come from?"
He wanted to see what his mother had to say for herself.
"This... this was something Mom prayed for at the temple a while ago. Since you had some trouble recently, Mom thought that by keeping such an item from a high monk, it would bless our family with peace and safety."
Qi Xinyue became even more flustered and had to make up a lie on the spot.
"Is that so? Since it's to ward off disasters and bless our Shen Family with peace, then please, Mother, part with it and give the pendant to me."
"This... this was something I specifically prayed for. The high monk said it cannot be given to anyone else, otherwise it won't be able to ward off disasters."
"If you need one, I will take you to the temple another day to pray for a string of prayer beads that belongs to you. How about that?"
Qi Xinyue was even more panicked and tried to find any excuse to brush it off.
It wasn't that she was reluctant to part with the pendant, but she was worried that if the matter were exposed, Shen Congwu would discover the trickery behind it.
Unfortunately, this display of a guilty conscience and the holes in her repeated lies only looked to Shen Wen like his mother, Qi Xinyue, was worried about the matter being exposed and was protecting that adulterer, Jiesha.
But knowing all this, what could he, Shen Wen, do?
Expose it all directly and let Qi Xinyue become a rat crossing the street, pointed at by thousands and beaten by everyone?
Regardless of anything else, Qi Xinyue was his biological mother; that was an undeniable fact.
Even if she had thousands of faults and her character was corrupt, it could not change this fact.
If he really blew things out of proportion, his identity as an illegitimate son would immediately be exposed, and he and his mother would be the ones to suffer.
Having thought this through, Shen Wen forced down his inner disgust, handed the prayer beads back into Qi Xinyue's hand, and forced a smile.
"I just thought this blood-red string of prayer beads was a bit special. Since the high monk has said so, how could I take what you love?"
"I'm a bit tired recently, so I'll go back and rest first."
Shen Wen didn't want to say anything more, and didn't even want to stay here any longer, so he found an excuse to leave.
His mind was a chaotic mess, and he was deeply troubled, having absolutely no idea what he should do next.
Once his identity as an illegitimate son was exposed, what kind of storm would await him?
Although Shen Congwu had treated him well over the years, that was based on the premise that he was his biological son.
If Second Uncle Shen Congwen were to find out that he wasn't his son at all, but an illegitimate child, he would likely have the urge to hack him into pieces.
Once his true parentage was exposed, he understood without needing to imagine what kind of storm would greet him.
At this moment, he didn't dare to think about it; he just wanted to have some peace and quiet.
"This child, acting mysterious all day long; could he have discovered something?"
Seeing Shen Wen act this way, a bad premonition welled up in Qi Xinyue's heart; she felt as if he had discovered some clues.
Unfortunately, she had a pile of her own messy affairs that were hard to deal with, and she had no energy to worry about Shen Wen's matters.
"That brat Shen Wen is stupid enough. It looks like the Young Master's plan has already succeeded."
Jiesha, who had just been with Qi Xinyue in the throes of passion, had returned and witnessed everything.
He dialed Chu Yuan's number and reported everything to him.
Upon receiving the news from Jiesha, Chu Yuan was in a good mood.
The Monk was ruthless and would trick people to death without a second thought; letting him deal with Shen Wen and the Shen Family was a pretty good decision.
Two hours later, Nie Yuqing was lying happily on top of Chu Yuan, a hint of satisfaction blooming at the corners of her mouth.
It had to be said that choosing to stay by Chu Yuan's side was the most correct decision Nie Yuqing had ever made.
"Yuqing, I didn't expect your ability to serve people to get better and better. How did you come up with that move just now?"
Chu Yuan gently stroked Nie Yuqing's hair; keeping such a stunner by his side brought not only physical satisfaction but also spiritual pleasure.
Hearing this, Nie Yuqing lowered her head, and something called shyness flooded her heart.
Nie Yuqing knew that she didn't have many skills; apart from her beauty, everything else was worthless in Chu Yuan's eyes.
Even her beauty—given Chu Yuan's power, finding a woman more beautiful than her would be a matter of minutes.
In order to continue receiving Chu Yuan's favor, Nie Yuqing tried every possible way to please him.
The new move Chu Yuan mentioned was something Nie Yuqing had racked her brains to come up with.
Now that it was brought up by Chu Yuan in front of her...
"Chairman Chu, I... I..."
Nie Yuqing was full of shyness and didn't know how to answer.
"Alright, alright, I know you're shy, I won't say any more."
Chu Yuan patted Nie Yuqing's shoulder, looking very pleased with himself: "You performed well just now; this young master has decided to reward you properly."
"Speak, what do you want?"
"Chairman Chu, can I... can I really make a request?"
"That is only natural."
"Next week, our university classmates have planned a gathering. I don't know if Chairman Chu would be available?"
