48: tragedy monster

Starry night.

White Tiger City had settled down, and the entire county was very quiet.

After nightfall, White Tiger County had closed its gates, but this couldn't stop Han Li.

With a movement of Divine Travel Eight Desolations, he was like a spirit of the night, silently scaling the city walls and entering the city.

There weren't many figures on the streets; most people had already fallen asleep.

However, there were still some lively places, such as the pleasure houses.

These were the liveliest places at night.

On the streets, there were still quite a few figures.

Han Li casually found an inn to stay in. After entering his room and washing up, he organized his information once more.

"It's only about a few dozen li. Leaving first thing in the morning won't be a problem."

After checking the mission details and confirming everything was in order, Han Li rested.

He had been rushing all day, covering over six hundred li, and even his body felt a deep fatigue.

Lying on the bed, he quickly fell into a deep sleep...

The next day, early in the morning, Han Li ate breakfast in the county town and then headed to his mission's destination.

His first mission was to deal with a Demonic monster lurking in the deep mountains near White Tiger County.

Traveling along, Han Li accelerated as he left the county town.

Leaving the main road and entering the mountain forest, he traversed mountains and ridges. In the time it takes an incense stick to burn, Han Li arrived at a mountain peak.

White Tiger County was surrounded by towering mountains and ancient forests.

It was late autumn, and the air carried a hint of chill.

Han Li gazed out, looking at a village not far away.

According to the mission details, this Demonic monster was roaming in the vicinity.

"I'll go ask the villagers about the situation first," Han Li decided, and his figure instantly vanished from where he stood.

The local villagers would know some things. There were many deep, old forests nearby, and if he were to search alone, the difficulty would be quite high.

Asking about the general situation would help his mission, one way or another.

A moment later, Han Li arrived at the village; it was very quiet.

It was even quieter than his old home, Han Family Village. In the air, there seemed to be a faint scent of blood.

Han Li frowned, feeling something was strange.

It was still early morning; normally, people should be lighting fires and cooking, so it shouldn't be this quiet.

An unusual event must indicate a Demonic presence!

Han Li perked up and walked into the village.

As he entered the village, Han Li's ears twitched; he heard the sound of crying.

In the air, the scent of blood grew three times stronger.

"Something is indeed happening."

Han Li's heart tightened, and he quickened his pace.

Before long, he saw a large crowd gathered in front of a courtyard.

The crying was coming from inside the courtyard.

"Heaven-damned! That monster is causing trouble again! Poor Little Wang, he was only seventeen and died in the monster's maw."

"This is the fourth incident this month. Sigh, are we not meant to live?"

"Heavenly God, please have mercy and send someone to subdue this monster."

...

Before he even got close, Han Li heard the villagers discussing in a clamor.

From their words, Han Li instantly understood that this must be the monster from his mission causing trouble again.

Another person had died at the monster's hands.

Han Li stepped closer. No one noticed him; everyone's attention was on the courtyard.

Han Li came to the front of the crowd and looked into the courtyard.

Inside the courtyard, there was blood everywhere. A corpse lay motionless on the ground, half of its body bitten to pieces. An arm and a leg were missing, seemingly bitten off in one go by some monster.

Its intestines spilled out from its abdomen, a sight that sent shivers down one's spine.

Beside it, a white-haired old woman wailed, looking at the corpse in the pool of blood, heartbroken.

The surrounding people all looked indignant.

"It looks like he hasn't been dead long..."

Looking at the incomplete corpse in the pool of blood, a thought flashed through Han Li's mind.

Demonic monsters eating people.

It wasn't uncommon in this world.

However, witnessing such a tragedy firsthand still made him uncomfortable.

A human tragedy, white-haired parents burying their black-haired child.

The deceased was only seventeen or eighteen, in the prime of his life, yet he had died just like that.

"Uncle, when did that Demonic monster flee?"

Han Li looked at a villager in front of him and asked.

The villager turned around and looked at Han Li.

"Who are you?"

"You don't look like you're from around here, do you?"

A hint of surprise appeared in the villager's eyes. At this moment, several other villagers also looked at Han Li.

"I've come because of the government's bounty, to deal with this Demonic monster."

Han Li said.

"You?"

Hearing this, several villagers were astonished.

"Young man, you're not talking nonsense, are you? Do you know how powerful that Demonic monster is?"

A villager spoke.

Han Li was about to speak when an old man in coarse linen clothes walked out of the courtyard.

The old man looked at Han Li, sizing him up.

"Young man, you just said you came because of the government's bounty?"

"Precisely," Han Li nodded.

"You... are a Martial Artist?" The old man looked at Han Li, his eyes showing a hint of suspicion.

"Mm," Han Li nodded. With a movement of True Qi in his body, an invisible Aura instantly permeated the air.

The surrounding villagers felt the pressure on their bodies and involuntarily took a few steps back.

"A Martial Artist!"

"So young!"

Looking at Han Li, the villagers' hearts trembled.

"Can he do it?"

A thought arose in the minds of the villagers as they looked at Han Li.

Although they felt that this young man's Aura was very powerful, he was simply too young.

He looked to be in his teens, which couldn't help but make people suspicious.

"Uncle, could you tell me where that Demonic monster is?" Han Li asked.

At this moment, the old man in coarse linen was the first to recover, saying, "Young man, that Demonic monster is very powerful. Many Martial Artists have lost their lives to it."

"I know. I'm prepared this time. Just tell me the direction of the Demonic monster."

Han Li said.

The old man in coarse linen frowned, and before he could speak, a villager pointed a direction, saying, "This morning, we heard monster sounds coming from that mountain over there. The monster should be on the mountain."

Han Li instantly looked in the pointed direction. It was a large mountain.

The mountain was high and densely forested, shrouded in mist.

"Thank you."

Han Li nodded, then his figure moved. With a single step, he covered several zhang. In a few breaths, he vanished from the villagers' sight.

Watching this scene, the villagers' eyes lit up.

"This person might have a chance to kill that beast," a villager said.

"Village Chief, what do you think?" Another villager asked, looking at the old man in coarse linen.

The old man in coarse linen watched Han Li disappear from view, then recovered, saying, "I don't know either. I hope so. This Demonic monster isn't that easy to deal with."

"Let's handle Little Wang's funeral first. As for the Demonic monster, we'll just wait for news."

The Village Chief said.

The villagers nodded, then also entered the courtyard to help...

The mountain was high and densely forested, with mist rising.

Han Li passed through the village and soon arrived at the foot of the mountain.

A part of the mountain was covered by white mist.

Standing at the foot of the mountain, Han Li looked at the misty forest.

"There's Demonic Qi..."

"It seems it must be in here."

Han Li twitched his nose, his gaze serious.

Having hunted Demonic monsters in Demon Suppression Valley, Han Li had become extremely sensitive to Demonic Qi.

He could distinguish it.

The Aura of ordinary beasts and Demonic monsters was completely different.

"Buzz—!"

He spread his five fingers, and a flash of light appeared. The Dragon Pattern Spear instantly materialized in his hand.

Looking at the dense mountain forest and smelling the faint Demonic Qi, Han Li's figure moved, and he swiftly entered the forest.

The mountain path was rugged, and the mist was pervasive, greatly limiting visibility. However, it didn't affect Han Li much.

Tracking the Demonic Qi, he continuously delved deeper into the mountain forest, and soon, he arrived halfway up the mountain.

In the thorny jungle, thick mist permeated the air. Han Li stopped and looked at the thorny jungle shrouded in white mist.

Through his powerful perception, he could vaguely sense the traces of the Demonic monster.

However, he couldn't be sure; the Demonic Qi here was chaotic, and combined with the obstruction of the mist, it greatly limited his perception.

"Coo coo..."

A very peculiar sound came from deep within the misty jungle. Han Li's ears twitched. He spread his five fingers, and a small stone on the ground was drawn into his hand by True Qi.

"Swoosh—!"

With a flick of his hand, a piercing sound suddenly rang out, and the stone shot out like lightning.

"Bang—!"

It hit deep within the mist, and a special low-frequency sound came back.

Han Li's gaze instantly sharpened.
