66: Confess to Jie

Xiang Jie leaned over the well opening and shouted:

"Wu Linsheng, come up, don't make us do it."

The well opening was empty and vast, and the echo reverberated out of the well, but no one answered.

"Wu Linsheng, Qiuhong has already confessed. We are just questioning you, investigating your master's case. If I have to go down, that's another matter!"

Xiang Jie continued to call out, but the well was empty. Besides a bright pool of water reflecting the sky, the surrounding stone walls were dark with grooves, and nothing could be seen clearly.

"Hold the rope tight, I'm going down to look!" Xiang Jie tightened the rope, and two of his subordinates slowly reeled him down.

Jiang Hanwen stood by, waiting quietly, without any sign of anxiety.

A quarter of an hour later, Xiang Jie climbed out of the well with a look of shame, holding a dark red food box in his hand.

"Chief Steward Jiang, it's my fault for not keeping a close watch. Before we arrived, he was still eating. Someone must have tipped him off, and he ran away."

He had guessed correctly. With Xiang Jie present, he was always a step behind.

"Alright, everyone else go back. I'll take you to look at other places."

"Yes!"

Leaving the sleeping quarters, Jiang Hanwen led Xiang Jie, one in front and one behind, re-entering the Medicine Field and heading straight for the courtyard where Jiang Hanwen had been assassinated the day before.

"Chief Steward Jiang, have you found new clues?" Xiang Jie looked at Jiang Hanwen with a face full of eagerness, not hiding the excitement in his eyes. When it came to searching for money, he was quite good at it!

However, what greeted him was a cold face and a sharp knife.

"I've always felt that someone was acting ahead of me. Every time I wanted to do something, I was always one step too late."

"Chief Steward Jiang, you suspect me!" Xiang Jie's face instantly turned ugly, as dark as water.

Jiang Hanwen smiled slightly:

"You've misunderstood. I don't suspect you; I'm just stating a fact.

I asked you to look at Wu Qinghe's disciples, and coincidentally, his disciples conspired to kill me the very next day, even staging a feint to the east while attacking the west, planting people in the security guards.

Seven-layered Mortal Transformation, that's not a low position in the Zhuang family. They really went all out."

"Chief Steward Jiang, I—" Xiang Jie tried to explain, but Jiang Hanwen interrupted him:

"Don't rush, let me finish.

I went to find the coroner, and right after I met him, you came to find me.

You seem to have a very precise grasp of when I leave the mourning hall. Do you think this is a coincidence?"

"I—" Xiang Jie hesitated, wanting to speak but holding back. He knew a lot.

"And just now, when we were catching Wu Linsheng, you said yourself that you had already surrounded the area before we arrived.

Why was Wu Linsheng still able to run?

Moreover, the water on the rope hasn't dried yet, proving that he hasn't run far, perhaps even hiding in the next courtyard.

Xiang Jie, are you a human or a ghost!"

After saying the last sentence, the flying knife in Jiang Hanwen's hand aimed at Xiang Jie.

Cold sweat trickled down Xiang Jie's temples, his legs tensed, and he clenched his fists, also in a posture ready to strike at any moment.

The atmosphere instantly became extremely tense. They watched each other warily, neither side sure who would make the first move in the next second.

After a moment of silence, Xiang Jie swallowed and said:

"Chief Steward Jiang, these are all speculations. You have no evidence.

The family head only asked me to cooperate with you in the investigation, not to be a scapegoat. I don't accept this false accusation!"

"False accusation?" Jiang Hanwen shook his head. Some people truly are stubborn, even when so much has been laid out, they still refuse to admit it.

"You want evidence? I've had it from the beginning. I just wanted to see who was behind you.

After I took Wu Qinghe's diary, no one was allowed into his courtyard except me.

Tell me, why did you go to his courtyard, and specifically the east wing? What were you looking for!"

By the last sentence, Jiang Hanwen's tone suddenly shifted, like ten thousand mountains crashing down instantly.

Hearing the words "east wing," Xiang Jie's pupils contracted sharply, and his face instantly turned pale.

Click ~ Bang!

The last line of defense in his heart was breached. That was the sound of a broken heart.

Seeing that he was completely exposed, Xiang Jie no longer hid the fierce glint in his eyes. His secret had actually been discovered!

But very quickly, this fierceness was suppressed, replaced by hesitation and complexity, and his tensed body relaxed.

Facing Jiang Hanwen, he was no longer the skilled security guard, but merely a security guard, one who couldn't even compare to his opponent.

"Alas."

Xiang Jie sighed deeply, looking at Jiang Hanwen as if resigned to his fate:

"Chief Steward Jiang, I can tell you the truth, but in exchange, you must keep it a secret for me."

Still hiding it? Are you kidding me!

Old Du was killed by Zhuang Kongming, who is behind you. I am now seeking revenge, to kill him!

Jiang Hanwen looked at Xiang Jie coldly:

"Speak!"
