33: Just do it, why think about it!

Chapter 033: Just Do It, What's There to Consider?

Scrubbing, disinfecting, donning surgical gowns… all preparatory work was done quickly and thoroughly.

Only then did the circulating Nurse lead Lin Yi and Fang Xiaoran into Dr. Lu's operating room.

“It really is Zhu Zi!” Lin Yi was stunned.

He looked in surprise at the burly man on the operating table, still impaled by four steel bars, a sight he knew all too well.

The strangest thing was that, apart from Teacher Lu herself, there were no other doctors from any other department in the operating room.

“What are you standing there for? Come help.”

“Lin Yi as first assistant, Fang Xiaoran as second assistant!”

The moment she saw Lin Yi enter the operating room, Lu Chenxi felt an inexplicable sense of relief.

She quickly motioned for them to take their positions… “Lin Yi as first assistant?”

“Isn’t he a General Practitioner?”

“Dr. Lu is going a bit too far…”

Hearing Lu Chenxi’s arrangement for Lin Yi and Fang Xiaoran, the Department Directors in the observation room erupted.

Fang Xiaoran as first assistant, with Lin Yi assisting to gain surgical experience, would have been understandable.

But now it was completely reversed: the most crucial first assistant position in the operating room was given to Lin Yi, while Fang Xiaoran became an insignificant presence.

Wouldn’t this just make things worse instead of helping?

“Keep your voices down, let’s watch first?”

“I trust Lu Chenxi; she would never joke around with a patient!”

Director Zhong roared again.

Though his words were firm, the muscles at the corner of his mouth twitched unnaturally a few times.

Lu Chenxi’s arrangement truly caught him off guard.

Lin Yi might know a bit about Suturing Technique, but it wasn't enough for him to occupy such a primary position in the operating room.

However, this was not the best time to interrupt Lu Chenxi.

If he did, all his efforts would be in vain… With Director Zhong’s roar, the observation room immediately quieted down.

No matter what, Lu Chenxi was an Emergency Department doctor.

If the leaders weren’t anxious, why should outsiders like them be?

“Are you confident?”

After Lin Yi stood beside her, Lu Chenxi leaned in and whispered a question into his ear.

She no longer cared about saving face.

Rescuing the injured was the most critical thing right now.

As long as Lin Yi could still perform exceptionally and guide her through this surgery,

what did it matter even if she called him Teacher Lin Yi!

Lin Yi nodded slightly, signaling to Lu Chenxi that there was no problem.

Only after taking the first assistant’s position did Lin Yi notice that the observation room behind the glass window was packed with people.

Although he didn’t know why so many Department Directors had come to watch from behind the scenes, leaving Lu Chenxi, the attending physician, to take the lead as chief Surgeon.

But Lin Yi clearly understood that to establish himself in the Emergency Department, he had to maintain a good relationship with his teacher.

“Phew…”

Seeing the same determined look in Lin Yi’s eyes as he had during the rescue at the scene,

Lu Chenxi let out a long breath and completely relaxed.

“Teacher Lu, we confirmed this during the on-site rescue.”

“The most potentially fatal rebar is the one that penetrated the spleen through the left abdomen.”

“Should we start with this one?”

As he handed the scalpel to her, based on the optimal prompt from the system,

Lin Yi subtly reminded his teacher.

“Let’s start with this one!” Lu Chenxi’s tone was firm.

With Lin Yi’s clear hint, how could she not understand?

Once a decision was made, she had to completely trust the other party!

After a grateful glance at Lin Yi,

Lu Chenxi decisively pinpointed the location, and the scalpel was already on the patient’s skin.

“Move down one centimeter, an eleven-centimeter incision for a clearer surgical field.”

Lin Yi moved a little closer to Lu Chenxi.

He whispered another reminder in a voice only she could hear.

Lu Chenxi paused slightly, then moved the scalpel down one centimeter.

The incision was made and stopped at eleven centimeters.

Accurately calculating wound distances by eye is a basic skill for a Surgeon.

Lin Yi’s reminder was so precise that there was no possibility of Lu Chenxi making a mistake.

“It’s so perfect!” Lu Chenxi exclaimed in disbelief.

The entire spleen, the trajectory of the rebar, was clearly presented before her eyes.

She herself could hardly imagine that such a perfect surgical field was opened by her just now.

Even the angle and incision were in the most comfortable and convenient state for a doctor.

“A miss by a hair's breadth leads to a mile's deviation!”

Just a one-centimeter difference made their judgments as different as heaven and earth.

Without Lin Yi’s reminder,

Lu Chenxi admitted she couldn't have opened such a perfect surgical field.

“It is indeed perfect!”

“With this one incision alone, Lu Chenxi’s title as the top knife in Thoracic Surgery is well-deserved!”

“Why did she pause? Was it a considered decision or a subconscious reaction?”

“This incision, if it were in General Surgery, would be a textbook example…”

Just the initial laparotomy incision.

It left the experts and Department Directors in the entire observation room feeling utterly ashamed.

They privately admitted that even if they performed it themselves, they could never achieve the brilliance of Lu Chenxi’s incision.

“How did Lu Chenxi’s surgical ability actually improve after coming to the Emergency Department?”

Director Bai didn't speak, but his heart was churning with immense surprise.

Cardiothoracic Surgery was the pinnacle for surgical doctors.

The Emergency Department didn’t have as many complex surgeries to allow chief Surgeons to practice.

It made no logical sense that Lu Chenxi’s surgical skills would improve after leaving Cardiothoracic Surgery for the Emergency Department.

“A blind cat found a dead mouse, just luck!”

After understanding the underlying reason, Director Bai’s furrowed brows immediately relaxed considerably.

Surgeons experience countless surgeries in their lifetime; it’s perfectly normal for one or two perfect incisions to occur by chance… “Splenectomy, or try to suture the spleen as much as possible?” Lu Chenxi murmured to herself, hesitating.

The spleen before her was almost exactly as Lin Yi had described during the rescue.

The subcapsular rupture was very severe, with a constant risk of bleeding and rupture.

In such a situation, removing the spleen would, of course, be the safest and most scientific choice.

However, the patient Zhu Zi’s situation was very special: a paralyzed wife, elementary school-aged children; he was the family’s only remaining source of income.

Removing the spleen could potentially lead to various sequelae for Zhu Zi, such as decreased immune function, hematopoietic function, and blood filtration function.

It was even very possible that he would be unable to do heavy physical labor.

As a doctor, one must not only be responsible for the patient’s life.

A responsible doctor must also consider the patient’s future recovery and the impact on their original life in a comprehensive way.

“Ligate the splenic artery, incise the spleen, and remove the rebar as quickly as possible.”

“I will do the splenic Suturing, ensuring Zhu Zi’s spleen recovers as before.”

Just as Lu Chenxi was struggling to make a decision,

Lin Yi’s mosquito-like reminder came again… “Just do it, what’s there for me to consider?!”

For the first time in her life, Lu Chenxi experienced during surgery

how wonderful it was to just lie flat…
