7: Chapter 7 Assassin?
The room plunged into darkness.
He walked to the side of the hard wooden bed and lay down with his clothes on.
He closed his eyes.
Meanwhile.
In the old district, at the entrance of a dim alley where more than half of the streetlights were broken.
Three dark figures were sneaking along the base of the wall, their eyes fixed intently on the window of Su Yu's rented room, where the light had just been extinguished.
The man leading them wore a worn-out black leather jacket, with a low-quality cigarette dangling from his mouth.
The dim moonlight hit his face, revealing a hideous scar that stretched from the corner of his eye down to his chin.
Lao Mo.
A notorious thug in Jiangcheng's underground black market.
At the same time, he was also a genuine Martial Artist.
Although his Qi and blood value was barely 110 points, placing him at the very bottom of the Martial Artist hierarchy, it was enough for him to run rampant in this old district.
"Brother Mo..."
Beside him, a subordinate with dyed yellow hair swallowed, his voice trembling noticeably.
"Are we... really going to do this?"
Lao Mo slanted a glance at him, his gaze cold and gloomy: "What? Scared?"
"How can I not be!"
Another chubby subordinate also lowered his voice, his tone full of anxiety, "That's a high school student! The college entrance exam is right around the corner!"
"The laws of the Great Xia Kingdom explicitly state that during the college entrance exam, all senior high school students are key subjects of national protection!"
"If the City Defense Bureau or the Martial Dao Association finds out that we crippled a high school candidate before the exam..."
The fat man shivered, not daring to continue.
That was a serious crime punishable by death!
"Slap!"
Lao Mo unceremoniously slapped the back of the fat man's head.
"Look at how pathetic you are!"
Lao Mo cursed in a low voice, "What are you afraid of! The key subjects of national protection are those Geniuses who have hope of getting into a Martial Dao university!"
"A regular high school student has at most 10 points of Qi and blood."
"Even those so-called top Prodigies at Jiangcheng No. 1 High School, at most, barely had less than 100 points of Qi and blood during high school."
Lao Mo sneered, took out his phone from his pocket, and pulled up a file.
The faint light from the screen illuminated the scar on his face, making it look even more hideous.
"Furthermore, the intelligence provided by Young Master Zhao clearly states."
"This kid named Su Yu only has a Qi and blood value of 0.8!"
Lao Mo extended a finger and poked heavily at the "0.8" number on the screen.
"What does 0.8 mean?"
"A stray dog on the street that eats a little better than average has a higher Qi and blood value than him!"
Lao Mo shoved the phone back into his pocket, his eyes full of disdain, "With such a low Qi and blood value, he can't even beat an average adult. If I, a formal Martial Artist, take action personally and still let him cause a scene, I, Lao Mo, won't need to hang around Jiangcheng anymore; I might as well just find a block of tofu and smash my head against it!"
The yellow-haired guy was still a bit uneasy and rubbed his hands: "Brother Mo, what if? I mean, what if..."
"What if this kid is slippery, and suddenly starts screaming in the middle of the night, waking up all the neighbors?"
"Impossible."
Lao Mo interrupted him decisively.
"There absolutely cannot be any accidents."
"He's a 0.8 trash; I only need one move to control his throat and prevent him from even letting out a fart."
Lao Mo glanced at the old mechanical watch on his wrist.
11:45 PM.
"Wait."
Lao Mo exhaled a puff of smoke, his eyes turning cruel and greedy, "Wait for the middle of the night."
"Once he is sound asleep, we'll sneak in."
"Young Master Zhao gave instructions to break both of his legs, let him lie in the hospital for half a month, and miss the college entrance exam."
"After this job is done, we get 200,000. I'll take you guys to 'Night Color' to have some fun for a few days!"
Hearing about the huge sum of 200,000, the breathing of the two subordinates instantly became heavy.
Fear was quickly suppressed in the face of money.
The three of them, like hyenas lurking in the dark, stared intently at that pitch-black window.
Time ticked by second by second.
Midnight, 12:30 AM.
The old district had completely fallen into a deathly silence, with only the occasional cry of a stray cat.
"Let's go."
Lao Mo threw away the cigarette butt in his hand and crushed it with the tip of his shoe.
The three of them crept lightly into the dilapidated apartment building.
The hallway was filled with a musty, sour odor.
Lao Mo stopped in front of Su Yu's door.
It was an extremely old wooden door, and the lock cylinder had long since rusted.
Lao Mo pulled a long, thin wire from his waist and skillfully inserted it into the keyhole.
Inside the room.
On the hard wooden bed.
Su Yu's originally steady breathing paused imperceptibly the moment the wire touched the lock cylinder.
After his Breakthrough to Martial Master.
His five senses had been enhanced to a terrifying, superhuman Realm.
Never mind the sound of lock-picking outside the door.
Even the sound of water dripping from pipes in the neighboring building could be heard clearly if he wanted to!
In Su Yu's current perception.
Outside the door, there were three people.
Two ordinary people, their heartbeats fast and breathing rapid, clearly very nervous.
And one more...
His heartbeat was steady and powerful, and the sound of his blood flowing was much stronger than that of an ordinary person; he was clearly a formal Martial Artist who had broken the limits of the human body.
But in the perception of Su Yu, a powerhouse who had just stepped into the "Martial Master" Realm, the Qi and blood fluctuations of the Martial Artist outside the door were like a faint candle flame, completely unworthy of mention compared to the vast, ocean-like depths within his own body.
Too weak.
So weak that Su Yu couldn't even muster a shred of tension as if facing a formidable enemy.
In the darkness, Su Yu didn't move, but his brain was racing.
"In the middle of the night, a formal Martial Artist brings two ordinary people to pick my lock?"
As an orphan too poor to even pay his rent, the most valuable things in his room were a pile of study materials; he wasn't worth a thief's attention.
If it wasn't for money, then they were coming for him.
And for the past three years, he had lived a secluded life, doing nothing but odd jobs and practicing martial arts; he had never had any contact with any underground forces.
The only exception was a few hours ago.
"I just refused Zhao Ze's request to buy my grades this afternoon, and in the middle of the night, a Martial Artist comes knocking in the dark."
Su Yu understood instantly.
"This Young Master from the Zhao family really isn't willing to wait even a single night."
If the deal doesn't work out, they resort to dirty tactics.
This is the consistent style of those high-and-mighty privileged classes in this high-martial world.
In their eyes, ordinary people are truly just ants that can be crushed at any time.
If it were Su Yu from a few hours ago.
Facing a late-night break-in by a formal Martial Artist with two subordinates, his only fate would be to have his legs broken, be thrown on the ground like a dead dog, and watch helplessly as his chance to change his destiny was completely stripped away.
But now.
Click.
An extremely faint, crisp sound.
The lock was open.
The old wooden door was slowly pushed open to reveal a crack.
The faint moonlight from the corridor shone through the crack, casting three distorted shadows on the floor.
At the very same moment the wooden door was pushed open.
Su Yu, on the bed, immediately opened his eyes.
What deep, profound eyes they were.
There was not the slightest confusion of waking from a dream, nor a shred of panic at facing intruders.
Only endless indifference.
Like a high-and-mighty god looking down on three ants that had crawled into his territory without knowing their own death.
Lao Mo, like a nimble night cat, was the first to slip into the room.
He pulled the door shut behind him.
The room plunged back into darkness.
Lao Mo's gaze quickly locked onto the hard wooden bed not far away.
On the bed, a blurry figure lay there, motionless.
"Sleeping like a dead pig."
Lao Mo sneered in his heart.
He gestured to the two subordinates behind him, signaling them to hold down the target's hands.
He himself drew a solid steel pipe from his lower back.
The cold steel radiated a chilling aura in the darkness.
