18: Speculation about talent

On an unnamed Island.

Fang Song stood on the Lord Altar, his eyes burning with fervor, his fighting spirit raging within him.

“Hmph, on the first day, I only had one Earth Tyrant Bear, so it was fine to lose to you.”

“But today, I have seven Earth Tyrant Bears, and eight second-tier Troops, Goblin Archers. Tonight’s first place is mine for the taking!”

Just then, mist rose all around.

Behind the mist, shadowy figures began to approach Fang Song’s territory.

“Little ones, kill them quickly!”

Fang Song roared.

With his command, all the Goblin Archers immediately drew their bows and nocked arrows.

Swish, swish, swish... A volley of arrows shot into the war mist, causing the Goblins behind the mist to scream repeatedly.

“Roar, roar, roar...”

The Earth Tyrant Bears roared continuously.

They charged forward, plunging into the war mist.

As top-tier sixth-tier Troops, each of their attacks could easily instantly kill Goblins and Goblin Throwers.

With seven Earth Tyrant Bears attacking simultaneously, the number of Goblins rapidly dwindled.

In just about a minute, most of the Goblins had been wiped out.

Seeing this, Fang Song's lips curved into a smile.

Just as his smile grew wider, the competition zone announcement sounded.

“Competition Zone Announcement: Congratulations to Lord Li Feng, the Calamity Controller, for being the first Lord to defeat all assessment monsters, taking 1 minute and 03 seconds. Assessment points +100.”

Fang Song’s smile froze.

He was a very competitive person, otherwise he wouldn’t have secretly competed with Li Feng by himself.

But now, he was dealt a blow.

Two monster sieges, first kill of the BOSS, first to build a castle.

He had never surpassed Li Feng, always falling behind him.

“Who exactly is he? It’s impossible for him to be from the Baiyu Li Family; their successor entered the Endless Continent two years ago.”

“Li Feng... Li Feng... Could it be that he’s from the Chang'an Li Family?!”

As if he had thought of something, Fang Song’s body trembled violently.

The Chang'an Li Family, that was the most prominent Lord family in Dragon Country.

Simply because one of their ancestors had been a Godly Lord!

Strictly speaking, the Baiyu Li Family was actually a branch of the Chang'an Li Family, but they had separated many years ago.

“Yes, he must be from the Chang'an Li Family, a successor of that colossal power. If that’s the case, my loss isn’t unjust.”

Fang Song wildly speculated about Li Feng’s identity.

Ultimately, he bestowed upon Li Feng the title of a successor from a Divine Family.

Because in his opinion, only such a person could consistently suppress him.

As for someone from an ordinary family?

He didn't even consider it; it was simply impossible!

...Time rewound to one minute earlier.

Li Feng stood on the castle's watchtower, gazing out. From this vantage point, everything was visible.

War mist slowly rose, eventually enveloping his entire territory.

Behind the mist, shadowy figures appeared.

Those were the assessment monsters for this round.

“All units, charge!”

Li Feng shouted.

No sooner had his command fallen than all the Beedrills and Ironclad Ants charged forward madly.

As soon as the two armies clashed, all the Goblins fell, without exception.

“Your Troops killed a Goblin. Your Troops gained a small amount of experience. You gained 1 Gold Coin. Assessment points +1!”

“Your Troops killed a Goblin. Your Troops gained a small amount of experience. You gained 1 Gold Coin. Assessment points +1!”

“Your Troops killed a Goblin Thrower. Your Troops gained a small amount of experience. You gained 1 Gold Coin. Assessment points +1!”

“Your Troops killed a Goblin Thrower. Your Troops gained a small amount of experience. You gained 1 Gold Coin. Assessment points +1!”

“...”

It took 1 minute and 03 seconds, with more than half of that time actually spent on the journey.

As for the battle itself, it lasted less than 20 seconds.

“Congratulations, you are the first Lord in this competition zone to defeat all assessment monsters, taking 1 minute and 03 seconds. Assessment points +100.”

“You received rewards: 10,000 Gold Coins, 1 Fourth-Tier Gem, 1 Fourth-Tier Troops Blueprint, 1 Hero Recruitment Order!”

The rewards were the same as on the first day.

Afterward, he opened the leaderboard again.

His ranking was still first, unshakeable by anyone.

“Novice Assessment Leaderboard”

“First Place: Li Feng, the Calamity Controller, Points: 550”

“Second Place: Fang Song, the Earth Bear God, Points: 330”

“Third Place: Sun Yun, Elf Super Cute, Points: 310”

...On the first day, the difference between Li Feng and second-place Fang Song was only 10 points.

Now, the difference between them was a full 220 points.

From now on, as long as he performed steadily, first place would be as solid as a mountain.

He glanced at the others again and found that the top ten on the leaderboard had largely remained unchanged; it was still the same people.

Shaking his head, he closed the leaderboard.

He went to the second basement level and took out the Fourth-Tier Troops Blueprint that the Heavenly Dao had just rewarded him.

Flame Mage!

This was a Human Troops, a magic-user and ranged, a quite rare Troops.

Unfortunately, the effect of Zerg Scourge was ineffective on Human Troops.

A Fourth-Tier Troops Altar could only summon 4 Troops a day.

Although Li Feng had a castle, which could reduce the cooldown by 50%, he could at most summon 5 Troops a day.

He silently activated his talent, transforming it into a Zerg Troops.

“You obtained 1 Fire Centipede Troops Blueprint!”

There were countless Zerg Troops, and Li Feng couldn't remember all of them.

But he did have an impression of some of the outstanding ones.

This Fire Centipede was one of them!

Like the Flame Mage, the Fire Centipede was also a magic-user and ranged Troops.

Moreover, the Fire Centipede was one of the few Troops that could evolve.

If luck was good enough, the Fire Centipede could evolve into the seventh-tier Troops, the Blazing Centipede.

“It seems that the Zerg Scourge's transformation of blueprints isn't entirely random.”

Combining these recent Troops blueprint transformations, Li Feng gained a deeper understanding of his talent.

The first time, a third-tier Troops, Green Armor Wolf, was transformed into an Ironclad Ant; both of these Troops were skilled in defense.

The second time, a fourth-tier Troops, Cursed Demon, was transformed into a Self-Detonating Firefly; both of these Troops were special Troops and could still cause damage to enemies after death.

The third time, which was this time.

A fourth-tier Troops, Flame Mage, was transformed into a Fire Centipede; both of these Troops were magic-using Troops.

From this, it can be seen that the Zerg Scourge's transformation of Troops contains a certain pattern within it, and is not completely random...
