7: Chapter 7 Escape from the Sewers

"Bang!"

The Bloodthirsty Demonic Rat's massive body slammed into the wall, and the solid structure immediately collapsed, burying it under rubble.

The enraged Bloodthirsty Demonic Rat burst out from the debris, let out a roar, and accelerated toward the two once again.

Giant Demonic Rats were Early-stage Spirit Entry Realm monsters, but the Bloodthirsty Demonic Rat was a Mid-stage Spirit Entry Realm monster. Its speed was incredibly swift. Seeing that it was about to catch up to Leng Yueze and the other, Gu Yanshu's expression suddenly turned fierce. He turned to Leng Yueze and said, "Bear with it!"

"How did this happen? We clearly weren't discovered before, why?!" Gu Yanshu shivered from the cold. He didn't understand why they had been spotted by the second Bloodthirsty Demonic Rat when the first one hadn't noticed them at all.

But the current situation didn't allow for much thought. Gu Yanshu looked at the pale-faced Leng Yueze and said, "Let's take off our shirts. Our clothes are soaked; staying like this is colder than being bare-chested."

"Okay." Trembling, Leng Yueze stripped off his shirt and socks, leaving only his pants and shoes.

After taking off his clothes and seeing his and Leng Yueze's scraped and bleeding elbows, Gu Yanshu finally realized why the Bloodthirsty Demonic Rat had found them.

The Bloodthirsty Demonic Rat, as its name suggested, was extremely bloodthirsty. It especially loved fresh blood and was incredibly sensitive to its scent. The reason the first one hadn't found them was likely because it had a corpse in its mouth, so it didn't notice the scent of blood seeping from their scrapes when they fell. Because they kept moving, their body temperatures actually rose slightly, somewhat alleviating the stiffness of their frozen limbs.

After running for about eleven minutes and rounding another bend, they finally saw a beam of sunlight shining onto the ground.

Seeing this, both of them became extremely excited.

Based on the time they had been fleeing, it should be dawn outside. This light must be coming from a hole in the ground leading into the sewer.

Crouching in a corner, they noticed that no Giant Demonic Rats were currently entering through the hole. They immediately quickened their pace and rushed toward the light.

Due to the ground's collapse, various stones were piled together, forming a rocky staircase like a mountain path. The height of the steps was just right for the two children to climb toward the surface.

The two climbed up along the rocks and finally saw the light of day again after several hours.

However, the moment they poked their heads out, a shadow loomed over them. A viscous liquid dripped from above onto their heads, emitting a foul odor.

Looking up, their faces instantly turned deathly pale!

Before them stood a giant wolf covered in black fur, with a single horn growing from its head!

Its body was a full five meters long, and it exuded a terrifying aura.

"A Shadow Demonic Wolf, a Spirit Ascension Realm monster!" Their pupils shrank, and their hearts were completely enveloped in despair.

Just as the Shadow Demonic Wolf swung its black claws to tear the two small figures climbing out of the hole to shreds, a golden sword of light fell vertically from the sky, decapitating it instantly.

Black blood spurted out, completely staining the two boys' already dirty bodies.

As the Shadow Demonic Wolf's corpse hit the ground, the two finally snapped out of their shock and looked up into the sky in astonishment.

"It's that big brother!" Leng Yueze exclaimed inwardly.

High in the sky was a figure with two pairs of golden wings. Leng Yueze was all too familiar with this figure; it was the older brother who had saved his family when he and his parents were leaving the building.

"Are you two alright?" The youth descended from the sky and asked with a worried expression as he looked at the two boys.

"We're fine. Thank you for saving our lives, big brother," Leng Yueze nodded excitedly.

"Thank you," Gu Yanshu added, his face also filled with gratitude.

"How did you end up climbing out of this hole?" The youth looked at them with confusion. To be fair, he was the one who had blasted this hole earlier; he hadn't expected to save two children when passing by again.

"It's a long story," Leng Yueze said with a bitter smile.

"Alright. You look injured; let me heal you."

As the youth finished speaking, a soft golden halo enveloped the two. When the warm and gentle light touched their bodies, the scrapes on their skin began to heal rapidly, and even the frostbite from the cold started to recover.

Feeling their body temperatures rise, Gu Yanshu and Leng Yueze finally stopped trembling.

After dozens of seconds, they felt much more comfortable; even being bare-chested didn't feel so cold anymore.

"Big brother, how is the city?" Leng Yueze suddenly asked.

"The Critical Airspace has been closed. We are now clearing out the remaining monsters in the city." Thinking of the night's crisis and his fallen comrades, a look of bitterness and resentment appeared on the youth's face.

"Big brother, there are many Giant Demonic Rats underground, and we also saw two Bloodthirsty Demonic Rats. There should still be quite a few monsters wandering in the sewers." Gu Yanshu suddenly interrupted the youth's thoughts.

"Is that so? Thank you for letting me know." The youth nodded. He wanted to head underground to kill the monsters, but then he realized the two children wouldn't be able to reach the Safe Barrier in their current state.
