30: Chapter 30: With a wave of his hand, the entire sea is frozen!
"Keep it down. Wake me up again... and bear the consequences."
Lin Han dropped these words and turned to walk back inside the house.
Kuina opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but ultimately closed it.
She watched her master's back disappear behind the door, then turned her gaze back to the three sinking wreckage of warships on the sea, as well as those pirates flailing about in the water.
For a moment, she didn't know what expression to use to face the scene before her.
Three ships.
Just with a casual wave of his hand, three ships were broken.
The pirates on the shore were still dazed, but Don Krieg on the flagship had already snapped back to his senses.
His face turned the color of a pig's liver, veins bulging on his forehead, and his knuckle joints gripping his spiked club turning white.
"Bastard... Bastard! How dare you destroy my ship!"
Don Krieg roared, kicking his adjutant beside him to the ground with one foot, rushing to the ship's railing and roaring toward the shore.
"Playing god! You think this can scare me, Don Krieg? I've roamed the East Blue for over a decade, what kind of storms haven't I seen! Fire the cannons! Blast all the cannonballs out! Blow him to smithereens!"
Upon the order, the remaining forty-seven warships turned their gun barrels simultaneously.
The pitch-black gun barrels aimed at that small Navy Base, and the gunners hurriedly lit the fuses.
Kuina's pupils constricted, and just as she was about to voice a warning, she suddenly felt a strange chill rising from under her feet.
It wasn't the coolness of the wind blowing, but a coldness seeping from deep within the ground, seemingly capable of freezing the soul.
She looked down and found that a thin layer of white frost had actually condensed on the surface of the sand beneath her feet.
At the same time, the door that had just been closed was pushed open again.
Lin Han stood in the doorway, his face bearing an impatience that had reached its absolute limit.
He didn't walk out, but simply leaned against the door frame, extending his right hand toward the direction of the sea.
"I said..." His voice wasn't loud, but it clearly overpowered the sound of the sea breeze and waves, "Stop disturbing my sleep."
A pale white flame poured out from his fingertips.
That wasn't an ordinary flame; it was Bone Spirit Cold Fire.
It had no temperature, no pulsation, and looked more like some kind of solidified light.
At first, it was just a small cluster, as weak as a candle flame.
However, as Lin Han's fingers opened slightly, that pale light rapidly expanded and diffused.
Like it had a life of its own, it flowed down his arm, fell to the ground, and then spread along the ground toward the seaside.
Wherever it passed, the sand turned into white frozen soil.
The moisture in the air condensed into fine ice crystals, fluttering down.
Kuina subconsciously took two steps back.
That chill was a bit too much even for her, someone who possessed a wisp of Bone Spirit Cold Fire origin within her body.
And those pirates closer to the seaside already felt that something was wrong.
"W-What's going on? It suddenly got cold..."
"Look at the sea! The sea!"
Someone pointed at the ocean in panic.
Starting from the shore, the seawater was freezing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
It wasn't the slow, layer-by-layer accumulation of ice seen in winter.
It was like something was rapidly spreading underwater; the clear seawater instantly turned turbid and whitish, then solidified into a solid layer of ice.
The ice surface spread rapidly toward the pirate fleet.
The speed was so fast that even the waves were frozen mid-air, forming strips of crystal-clear ice walls.
"Fire! Hurry up and fire!" Don Krieg roared hoarsely.
The gunners hurriedly lit the fuses, and the gun muzzles spewed fire.
Hundreds of cannonballs fired simultaneously, flying toward the shore with a sharp whistling sound.
However, those cannonballs flew halfway before colliding with an invisible barrier.
The pale light flashed across the air, and all the cannonballs paused in mid-air for a moment.
Immediately following, they were covered with a thick layer of frost, lost their momentum, and fell into the sea with a clatter.
A few fell onto the ice surface, smashing a few shallow pits, and not a single one managed to get close to the shore.
The pirates were completely dumbfounded.
"A-Another round!" Don Krieg roared, unwilling to give up.
But this time, no one responded to him.
"Captain! This is bad!" A pirate stumbled over, his face pale, "The s-ship can't move!"
"What?!"
Don Krieg shoved the pirate aside, rushed to the ship's railing, and looked down.
Then, his expression changed.
It turned as white as the ice surface beneath his feet.
The entire sea surface, stretching from beneath his feet all the way to the shore, had completely turned to ice.
A thick layer, a vast expanse of white, reflecting dazzling light in the sunlight.
His forty-seven proud warships were all frozen on the ice surface, their hulls tilted and stuck in the ice layer, unable to move at all.
Let alone sailing, he couldn't even make them shake.
"This... How is this possible..."
Don Krieg muttered to himself, his legs turning weak, barely able to stand steady.
He had fought in the East Blue for so many years, seen Devil Fruit users, and witnessed all sorts of bizarre techniques.
Yet he had never seen—never even heard of—someone being able to freeze an entire sea surface.
This was not something humanly possible.
This was not something humans could do.
The pirates on the shore also discovered this situation.
They looked back and found that the waterway they came by had completely disappeared.
Replaced by it was an endless ice field.
Their ships, those warship lifelines, were all frozen within the ice layer like bugs in amber.
Someone tried to hack the ice with a knife, but the blade rolled, and only a few shallow white marks were left on the ice.
Someone tried to walk back to the ship, but as soon as they stepped onto the ice, they slipped and fell, tumbling head over heels in every direction.
Panic began to spread among the crowd.
And the culprit of all this was currently leaning against the door frame, letting out a huge yawn.
Lin Han rubbed his eyes, looking at the sea surface before him that he had turned into a world of ice and snow.
His expression was as bland as if he were admiring the snow scenery of his own backyard.
He lowered his hand and said to those pirates trapped on the ice surface,
"You disturbed my sleep, so you're punished to stand on the ice for three days. If you're hungry, gnaw on the ice, and don't bother me."
After saying that, he really turned around and walked into the house.
Halfway through, he poked half his body back out and said to Kuina,
"Kuina, I'll leave this to you. I'm going back to catch up on sleep, don't call me before dinner."
Kuina was silent for two seconds, then took a deep breath.
"Okay, Master."
The door closed.
Not long after, the sound of even breathing came from inside the house.
Outside, absolute silence.
Over a thousand pirates stood on the ice surface, caught in a dilemma, looking at each other in blank dismay.
They still held swords and weapons, still carried a killing intent, but at this moment they were like a group of lost children, not knowing what to do.
The soldiers of the 18th Branch were no better off.
They held their rifles, maintaining an aiming posture, but the gun barrels were shaking slightly.
It wasn't fear; it was shock.
They looked at the frozen sea surface before them, the massive warships frozen in place, and the closed door.
Only one thought remained in their minds.
What kind of existence was this Rear Admiral lord anyway?
Kuina sheathed her sword, walked to the shore, and stamped on the ice beneath her feet.
Hard, thick, harder than stone.
She raised her head, looking at the distant pirate fleet trapped on the ice surface, the corners of her mouth twitching upwards uncontrollably.
Fifty ships.
A fleet of five thousand people.
Frozen completely by one person, one hand, in the blink of an eye.
If this news spread out, the entire East Blue would experience an earthquake, right?
No, not just the East Blue.
The entire world would shake because of it.
