47: Chapter 47 The Family Enters the City

The members of the Black Wolf Gang disappeared into the night.

The people of Lin Family Village stood stunned for a good while before finally waking as if from a dream, and the place instantly erupted into a clamor.

"They're gone? They really left?"

"Lin Tian! How did you become so strong?"

"Did you really become the Hall Master's Disciple?"

"And that hundred taels of silver... Good heavens, I've lived for decades, and this is the first time I've ever seen such a large silver ingot!"

Everyone surrounded Lin Tian, all talking at once, their eyes filled with shock and awe.

Lin Tian didn't have time to answer. He first looked at his parents and younger sister.

"Father, Mother, Little Sister, are you all right?"

Madame Zhao shook her head, her eyes still red. "We're fine, we're fine... Just a bit frightened."

Lin Dashan also said, "We're fine. What about you? You weren't hurt just now, were you?"

Lin Tian shook his head. "I'm fine."

He then looked at the other clansmen. "Is everyone else all right?"

Everyone shook their heads, saying they were only a bit startled and that no one was injured.

Lin Tian let out a sigh of relief.

But he did not let his guard down.

Tonight's events were a wake-up call. Although the Black Wolf Gang had retreated, the matter with the Liehuo Martial Arts Hall was far from over.

He had killed Consultant Liu of the Liehuo Martial Arts Hall outside the city; they would trace it back to him sooner or later.

When that time came, not only would he be in danger, but the clansmen of Lin Family Village would also be implicated.

He had to settle them in a safe place.

"Everyone, listen to me," Lin Tian raised his voice, silencing the crowd's chatter. "Go back and pack your things now. Take your valuables and light luggage, and leave with me immediately."

Everyone was stunned.

"Leave? Where to?"

"To Heishan City," Lin Tian said.

"Heishan City?"

"What are we going there for? We don't even have a place to stay."

"Yeah, we've always lived in Lin Family Village. Our ancestors have been here for generations..."

The crowd buzzed with discussion, none of them willing to leave.

Lin Tian said in a low voice, "I've offended some people. You all saw what happened tonight. Since they could find this place once, they can do it again. The Second-in-Command held them off this time, but what about next time? Or the time after that?"

The crowd fell silent.

Lin Tian continued, "Go stay in Heishan City for a while first, two or three months at most.

Once the Imperial Guard assessment is over and I become an Imperial Guard, neither the Black Wolf Gang nor the Liehuo Martial Arts Hall will dare to touch you."

The Imperial Guard!

Everyone gasped in shock.

The Imperial Guard were the imperial court's men—they were officials!

If Lin Tian really managed to join the Imperial Guard, then Lin Family Village would produce a truly great figure!

Village Chief Lin was the first to react, shouting:

"Listen to Lin Tian! Everyone, go back and pack your things. We leave tonight!"

Lin Family Village was in a frantic rush all night.

Every household packed their valuables and light luggage. What they could take, they took; what they couldn't, they reluctantly had to leave behind.

They released their chickens, ducks, pigs, and sheep, and hid their land deeds close to their bodies.

As dawn was breaking, a group of nearly a hundred people left Lin Family Village, heading in the direction of Heishan City.

Lin Tian walked at the very front, with his parents and younger sister by his side. Lin Xiaohe was still young and didn't understand what was happening; she just tightly clutched the hem of her brother's robe.

By the time the sun rose, they had arrived at Heishan City.

The guards at the city gate wanted to stop them upon seeing so many people, but when they saw Lin Tian present his Qingfeng Martial Arts Hall waist token, they waved them through.

After entering the city, a problem arose—they had nowhere to stay.

With nearly a hundred people, they couldn't very well sleep on the streets.

Lin Tian thought about it and led the group toward the eastern part of the city.

The Liu Residence.

Liu Yunfeng was practicing his boxing in the courtyard. Hearing the doorman report that Lin Tian had arrived, he quickly went out to welcome him.

"Lin Tian? Why are you here? What is this..."

He froze upon seeing the dense crowd of people behind Lin Tian.

Lin Tian briefly explained the situation and then said:

"Senior Brother Liu, my clansmen need temporary shelter. Could we borrow a few courtyards from your Liu Family to stay in for a few days? I'll look for a house right away."

Liu Yunfeng agreed without hesitation. "No problem at all! My Family might not have much else, but we have several empty courtyards. Come, I'll take you there!"

He arranged for people to take the Lin clansmen to several vacant courtyards to settle in.

Although it was a bit cramped, they at least had a roof over their heads.

Lin Tian then found Clan Leader Liu and took out some silver—a full hundred taels.

"Clan Leader Liu, I'm not familiar with Heishan City, so I'd like to ask for your help in finding a large residence to settle my clansmen. Here is the silver. If it's not enough, I will add more."

Clan Leader Liu quickly declined. "Young Master Lin, what are you doing? Yunfeng's friend is the Liu Family's friend. Why would you need to spend money on such a small matter?"

Lin Tian shook his head. "Business is business. I must trouble you, Clan Leader Liu."

Seeing his firm attitude, Clan Leader Liu had no choice but to accept the silver. Patting his chest, he said:

"Rest assured, Young Master Lin. Within two days, I guarantee I will find a suitable residence for you!"

Two days later, Clan Leader Liu indeed found a residence.

The courtyard was in the western part of the city. It was a three-entry, three-exit courtyard with over twenty rooms, which was plenty to accommodate everyone from Lin Family Village.

The original owner was a merchant who was in a hurry to return to his hometown, so the house was sold cheaply, and one hundred taels was just enough.

Lin Tian took his clansmen to see the house, and everyone was satisfied.

Although it was not as spacious as Lin Family Village, having such a large courtyard in the city was already a rare find.

On moving day, Liu Yunfeng brought along a few members of the Liu Family to help. After a busy day, everyone was finally settled in.

That night, Lin Tian sat in the courtyard, looking up at the moon in the sky, and let out a long breath.

They were temporarily safe.

Next up was the Imperial Guard assessment.

As long as he passed the assessment and became an Imperial Guard, whether it was the Liehuo Martial Arts Hall or the Black Wolf Gang, they would no longer be a concern.
