211: The meaning of war

As time passed, the bottom-tier battles across the three major battlefields had mostly concluded with Wuji Palace's victory.

Only a few Great Masters at the top of each battlefield were still fighting intensely, but anyone with a discerning eye could see that the outcome was already decided.

On the Tianchi Domain battlefield, You Bao sat on a hillside, looking at the booming sounds coming from above, and couldn't help but murmur.

"Are they still fighting...?"

This war lasted only four days, but the two above had been fighting for five days already.

Of course, it wasn't just these two; after You Bao contacted the other battlefields, she found that it was the same there—the outcome was still undecided.

Unable to intervene, they could only wait helplessly, while also cleaning up the battlefield.

On a side note, Kaido, Qin Wudao, and Hu Qianxue, who were making the fastest progress, had already led their teams to conquer two more Realms, and in about another day, they would be able to push into the Central Domain and strike directly at the Dragon.

"Hey, Senior Sister."

Just then, Shi Hao darted out from the side, asking curiously.

"What are you doing?"

"Nothing much."

You Bao propped her chin with one hand, pointing upwards with the other, and said lazily.

"Just watching them fight."

"Oh, oh."

Shi Hao glanced up before sitting down beside her, while on the plain below the hillside in front of them, numerous Cultivators from Wuji Palace and its affiliated forces were cleaning up the battlefield.

A strong smell of blood permeated the air, stimulating their sense of smell.

"Hey, Senior Sister..."

After watching for a while, Shi Hao turned to look at You Bao and mumbled.

"Why do we have to fight them, when we don't even know each other? What's the point?"

For Shi Hao, who was young and whose worldview hadn't yet solidified, he didn't quite understand the scene before him.

Why did Sects have to fight each other? Couldn't they surrender if they couldn't win and save their lives? Why would they rather die than surrender?

"Uh, well..."

Hearing this, You Bao was also stunned for a moment, then scratched her head in annoyance; it was clear that she didn't know how to answer this question right away.

Although she was older than Shi Hao, she had grown up in a greenhouse, and even after leaving the Demon God Hall, she was still doted on by her Revered Master, Senior Sister, and Senior Brother in Wuji Palace, so she was definitely inexperienced.

"There is no meaning."

A gentle female voice sounded from behind them. The two instinctively turned their heads and saw a pair of huge eyes; upon closer inspection, it was indeed Shadow Leopard.

"Aunt Ming!" (Both)

The two little ones greeted her one after another, and the next moment, Shadow Leopard disappeared, replaced by a cold and beautiful woman in a black mystic robe with her hair tied up in a hairpin.

"You two little ones, how did you end up here?"

Ming Ying affectionately patted both of their heads, and Shi Hao seized the opportunity to ask.

"Aunt Ming, did you just say this has no meaning?"

"Yes."

Ming Ying looked down at the plain below the hillside; under the rare cloudy sky, the ground was covered with corpses, and the surviving Cultivators, dragging their weary and injured bodies, moved about, cleaning up the battlefield.

"You must understand, this is how the world is, Xiao Hao."

The smile on Ming Ying's face disappeared, and she sighed softly.

"Between forces, for various benefits and selfish desires, they use means of attack and slaughter to achieve their goals. This is called war."

"Benefits..."

Shi Hao seemed to understand something. After a moment of contemplation, he looked up again, a faint look of confusion on his face.

"Then, were we wrong...?"

As a Disciple of Lin Xiao, Shi Hao naturally knew that all of this was caused by Wuji Palace's covert manipulation, and coupled with Ming Ying's conclusion, he instinctively came up with this answer.

"Of course not."

Hearing this, Ming Ying was about to say something when a voice from behind her sounded. She instinctively turned her head, and a spatial portal appeared before her. Two figures stood there, smiling at her.

"Palace Lord!"

Seeing the newcomers, Ming Ying dared not delay and quickly bowed in salute. The people who appeared before her were none other than Lin Xiao, who was in charge of Wuji Palace, and beside him, who else but Yun Ling'er.

"Revered Master, Senior Sister!!"

The two little ones, turning around, also cheered when they saw them. The next moment, You Bao threw herself into Yun Ling'er's arms, hugging her tightly with a face full of joy.

"You're here too!"

"Yes, we came to see you."

Yun Ling'er looked down and stroked Xiao You Bao's beautiful hair, then turned to look at Ming Ying, nodding and smiling.

"Aunt Ming."

"Ling'er."

Ming Ying smiled in response, then turned to Lin Xiao and nodded.

"Palace Lord, if there's nothing else, I'll go now. There are still some matters to attend to over there."

"Mm, you go."

After watching Ming Ying depart, Shi Hao's gaze fell on Lin Xiao, his face showing confusion.

"Revered Master, what did you mean just now...?"

"I said, 'Of course not'."

Lin Xiao walked slowly to the front of the hillside, hands behind his back, looking at the scene before him, and spoke leisurely.

"Xiao Hao, you must understand that right and wrong are never simple to distinguish.

Think about it, if we didn't start this war, would we have continued to live in peace with them for all eternity?"

"This..."

Hearing this, Shi Hao was immediately bewildered. This topic was somewhat unfamiliar to him; he had never thought about such things.

"This world is very cruel."

Lin Xiao's tone was very calm, every word clearly reaching the ears of the two little ones.

"The strong prey on the weak, the fittest survive, the adaptable thrive—these are ancient and unchanging truths.

I ask you, if we don't deal with them now, what will we do if their strength surpasses ours in the future? How will we conduct ourselves then?"
