6: Chapter 6: Time to Eat
The words were loud and clear; even though it was raining, everyone heard them.
He Chenguang frowned slightly and looked at the person who had spoken. Wasn't that Yang Han?
What kind of stunt was he trying to pull now?
Regardless, He Chenguang did not respond. Wang Yanbing curled his lips in a sneer. They were starving to death right now; who had the energy to sing?
However, Li Erniu, who was standing not far from Yang Han, muttered, "Brother, what are you singing? Aren't we being punished right now? If the squad leader sees us singing, he'll punish us again, and we probably won't be able to eat dinner tonight!"
At this moment, Yang Han said, "Didn't you hear what the squad leader said just now? He said we are a collective!"
"Why is he punishing us? Is it just to give us a hard time?"
"Maybe it's because we're too loose and lack any spirit of mutual support."
Yang Han took a deep breath. "Right now, let's sing together. If we shout loud enough and clear enough, maybe we won't feel so hungry. When the squad leader sees how united we are, he might just let us go eat!"
When these words were spoken, Li Erniu's eyes lit up. What Yang Han said actually made some sense.
On the other side, inside a small hut.
Gong Jian and Lao Hei were watching the scene. The heavy rain poured down on the new recruits, washing over them. Many were struggling to stand steady; the afternoon training had almost completely drained their bodies.
"That kid Yang Han has strong Physical Fitness, but a rich kid is a rich kid after all. He's probably been self-centered his whole life and has zero team spirit!"
Lao Hei snorted coldly, expressing his disappointment in Yang Han.
"People like him have some ability, but they are the hardest to remold."
Gong Jian said, "Because people like him are likely the most selfish!"
"Lao Hei, how long do you plan to make them stand?"
"Half an hour…" Lao Hei replied. "Half an hour should be enough for their arms. The rain will help relax their muscles, and then they can eat! But I am very disappointed in that kid, Yang Han."
"Hmm." Gong Jian nodded as well.
In the military, no matter how strong an individual's ability is, it's useless. They aren't supermen.
The collective is the true essence. The more united they are, the greater the power they can unleash.
Just as Gong Jian and Lao Hei were feeling disappointed, a loud singing voice suddenly reached them.
Someone was shouting in the rain: "Unity is strength…"
"This strength is iron, this strength is steel, harder than iron, stronger than steel…"
The resounding voice cut through the sound of the torrential rain and struck directly at the ears of Lao Hei and Gong Jian. Both of them suddenly widened their eyes, looking in disbelief at the group of new recruits in the heavy rain.
"Someone is singing? And they're singing this song!"
Gong Jian's expression changed slightly.
He was somewhat educated and knew the background of this song's creation. At that time, it was the most critical moment for all of China; the threat of national subjugation and extinction was no joke. Many people had become numb, believing that China's heritage would be wiped out.
However, there were always those heroic and steadfast souls who refused to give up, sacrificing their lives to resist the invaders!
That was the background against which this song was created—a turbulent era, precarious and on the verge of national destruction!
Gong Jian felt that the singing was powerful, resonant, and soul-stirring. It wasn't just sung casually; the person singing it had used every ounce of their strength, as if they were singing with their life.
On the other side, Lao Hei's expression was also one of astonishment, and his eyes instantly turned slightly red!
This singing had actually moved him.
Gong Jian immediately picked up his binoculars and discovered that in the rain, a lean, fair-skinned young man was singing with determined eyes, his mouth wide open, and his chest heaving violently.
"Is that Yang Han?"
Gong Jian let out a sound of surprise. Beside him, Lao Hei was a bit stunned. Yang Han, this rich kid, knew how to sing this song? It was truly unbelievable.
Immediately, he took the binoculars and discovered that it was indeed Yang Han. His expression became even more moved!
"This kid… actually knows how to sing this song, and he sings it so well that I can't find any fault. It's as if he is a true soldier." Lao Hei's expression was complex. He had prejudices against Yang Han, but now, those prejudices had at least been reduced by half.
Because no spoiled brat could ever have eyes as determined as Yang Han's.
As Yang Han sang in the torrential rain, the sound of "emotion points +10, +10, +10, +10" kept ringing in his mind, but he ignored them.
At this moment, he didn't care about those. He just wanted to sing, to express the emotions in his heart and repent for his previous behavior of ignoring his comrades.
Yang Han wanted to become a Soldier King, but if he lacked even the slightest spirit of unity, what good would it be to become a Soldier King?
Many new recruits also turned their heads to look at Yang Han. The singing was loud, clear, and full of vitality, deeply infectious.
Some of them even had tears welling up in their eyes. At this moment, they seemed to understand what unity and a collective were.
Immediately, someone joined in, singing along with Yang Han.
"Unity is strength…"
"This strength is iron…"
"This strength is steel!"
"Harder than iron, stronger than steel!"
One line after another. At first, only one or two people sang along, but by the second line, more people joined in. In the end, everyone was singing in chorus, even He Chenguang and Wang Yanbing were no exception!
The shouting shattered the heavens. The torrential rain was fierce, as if it wanted to drown them out, but it still couldn't swallow up this resounding singing. It felt like a manifestation of their determination.
By the window, Gong Jian's expression changed, and Lao Hei's face flushed red. He was moved by the singing. At this moment, he didn't need any more tests to know that this group already possessed a shred of team spirit; they were now a team!
If they didn't have team spirit, how could they sing such a loud and moving song in unison?
Gong Jian looked at Lao Hei and said in a deep voice, "Lao Hei, let them go in and eat."
"Yes, Instructor."
Lao Hei nodded. It was clear that he was also somewhat moved, surprised by the conviction of these people.
Tap, tap, tap. Footsteps approached.
"Good!" "Very good!" "I think at this moment, you all understand what unity is!" "Now, go eat!"
A loud shout interrupted everyone's singing. Many people focused their gaze and realized it was Lao Hei speaking.
"The squad leader is here."
"It's just as that pretty boy said; singing actually gets us permission to eat…"
"Let's go, let's go. My arms have recovered enough. Let's go eat!"
Hearing Lao Hei's permission, many new recruits' faces blossomed with joy.
They were starving to death!
Yang Han was among them.
Lao Hei watched this scene and shook his head with a smile. "These brats, they're just like gluttons."
He then looked at a figure in the crowd—Yang Han. In Lao Hei's impression, this Yang Han was gradually becoming different.
He seemed to truly have some skills, leadership abilities, and the ability to unite others. He was good material.
It's just that he's such a damn troublemaker!
