22: Chapter 22: Out of Danger
"Brother Bai, you're so rough. Can't you be a little more considerate of a wounded patient like me!"
Huzi's mouth had been forcibly stuffed with a corpse, which was quite uncomfortable, and it still had to hold a palm-sized spirit stone in its mouth as well.
But honestly, its spiritual energy was recovering, and so were its injuries.
"Once you've absorbed enough, stop the bleeding yourself with your spiritual energy. I don't have time to mess around with you."
Seeing it act like this, Bai Xuan gave it a kick before heading over to Little Hei.
Little Hei's injuries were lighter, but there was still a risk of death.
Bai Xuan arrived at Little Hei's side and immediately used spiritual energy to stop the bleeding.
Compared to Huzi, Little Hei's injuries were much better; it had been hit by some drone bullets, but its internal organs were not damaged.
Bai Xuan seemed to have thought of something and asked the system in his mind:
"System, can I spend evolution points to treat Brother Hei and Huzi's injuries?"
If he could use the system to heal them, it would be much easier.
[Cannot. The system is only responsible for the host; it does not concern itself with anything else.]
The system's mechanical and cold voice responded.
"Can't you make an exception?"
The system did not reply.
It seemed he couldn't use the system to treat Little Hei and Huzi.
"Little Bai, it's really great that you didn't die." Little Hei leaned weakly against the base of a tree and said with a smile.
"Don't talk first, let me stop your bleeding." Bai Xuan used spiritual energy to help Little Hei stop the bleeding and checked its internal organs with his divine sense; fortunately, no vital parts were injured.
Immediately after, Bai Xuan wrapped bandages around Little Hei's body.
The bandages were too small to be used on Huzi, but they fit Little Hei perfectly.
At the same time, Bai Xuan still needed to go find herbs and food and couldn't stay here too long to continuously transmit spiritual energy to stop Little Hei's bleeding, so the bandages were just right.
As for Huzi, it was a Tier 1, Level 4 beast, and it had much more spiritual energy in its body than Little Hei, so it could stop its own bleeding; there was no need to worry for now.
Bai Xuan brought Little Hei over to Huzi; it would be good for the two of them to stay together and look out for each other.
"Stay here honestly and don't run around. I'll be back soon." Bai Xuan increased his size, flapped his wings, and was just about to fly away.
But Little Hei called out to Bai Xuan: "Little Bai, wait a moment, do me a favor."
"What is it?" Bai Xuan stopped and asked.
"Go and see if there are any cigarettes in the car. You know, the kind that come in packs, and when you open them, they're individual sticks wrapped in golden grass fibers."
"What do you want those for?" Bai Xuan naturally knew what Little Hei was talking about and felt puzzled. It was a crow, what did it want that stuff for?
"To smoke, obviously."
"You know how to smoke?"
"I've smoked before."
Little Hei had learned quite a few things from the Forest Ranger, some of which it learned secretly. After being discovered, it was forbidden, but it would still go and take them.
A crow smoking, it was truly a novelty.
"You... are awesome." Bai Xuan shrank his size, walked back, and spat out a pack of Longguo brand cigarettes and a lighter from his mouth.
"What is this?" Huzi was very curious.
"Don't ask so much." Bai Xuan replied.
"Little Bai, your stomach... is truly magical."
Seeing Bai Xuan spit things out of his mouth, even though there was no slime, Little Hei still felt a bit nauseated.
"Don't smoke too much." Bai Xuan opened the cigarette pack, placed a cigarette in Little Hei's mouth, and then lit it with the lighter.
After doing this, Bai Xuan flew away.
"Is this also a human thing?"
"Yes."
"I want to try it too."
"With your current state, you'd better not. Besides, with your size, you can't handle it." Little Hei refused.
"How stingy." Huzi said with dissatisfaction.
"I'm so tired." Little Hei said weakly and slowly closed its eyes.
"Hey, hey, hey, don't sleep, wake up." Huzi said.
Little Hei didn't respond, and Huzi became a bit anxious:
"Little Hei, Little Hei, wake up quickly, hold on. We've finally made it this far, don't give up halfway."
Huzi wanted to push Little Hei, but its body couldn't move.
But Little Hei still didn't respond, and Huzi became even more anxious:
"Little Hei, Little Hei!"
"What is it?" Little Hei took a puff of the cigarette.
"Are you an idiot? You almost scared me to death!"
Huzi was given a big fright by Little Hei's sudden singing.
"My acting was pretty good, right?" Little Hei chuckled.
"You're sick. What time is it now, and you're still in the mood to joke around." Huzi rolled its eyes at Little Hei and cursed.
"We're all sick now and need treatment."
After saying this, Little Hei tilted its head. Its eyelids felt as heavy as a thousand pounds, fluttering a few times before finally unable to hold on, it closed its eyes.
"Stop playing. I won't fall for it again this time."
Huzi had been fooled once and didn't want to be fooled a second time, so it said impatiently.
Little Hei didn't have any reaction and leaned motionless against the stone wall.
"Hey, hey, Little Hei, wake up, stop joking..."
Huzi called out a few times, but Little Hei still didn't respond.
"Little Hei! Wake up, Little Hei." Huzi was so anxious it was almost crying.
During this time, it had gotten along very well with Little Hei, helping each other, and they had already become very good friends.
Seeing its friend pass away, Huzi felt extremely miserable.
"I'm just closing my eyes for a bit, don't worry." Little Hei spoke slowly.
Huzi was startled again. Its emotions had built up to this point, and then Little Hei suddenly started singing. Huzi cursed loudly:
"F*ck, you scared me to death! Are you f*cking sick? I told you not to sleep, but you insisted on sleeping. Go to hell, I will never care about you again this time!"
"I'm too sleepy, I can't help it." Little Hei took a breath.
"I know, hold on a little longer. Brother Bai will be back soon. Stop doing this stuff, it's terrifying."
Huzi calmed itself down.
Little Hei lowered its head, and before it knew it, it closed its eyes. Its breathing was weak, and it remained motionless.
"I just finished talking, and you're doing it again? Stop messing around and get up."
Huzi felt completely speechless. What time was it, and it was still thinking about playing? Was it that fun to tease it?
After a while, Little Hei still didn't move.
Seeing this situation, Huzi began to panic again. After calling out several times, Little Hei still didn't have any reaction.
Finally, in a sad tone, as if saying goodbye to Little Hei:
"You f*cking acted really well. Little Hei, rest in peace. I'm really happy to have been your brother."
"Holding you... the warmth of the past surges again..." Little Hei struck for the third time.
Previously, Little Hei had watched quite a few movies and listened to many songs at the Forest Ranger's place.
Through constant exposure, it had learned some lyrics.
"I really want to slap you to death. Just you wait, when my injuries heal, I'm definitely going to beat you up, otherwise I won't be called Huzi anymore."
Huzi's tears had fallen; this guy was pulling this stunt again.
"I just wanted to cheer you up." Little Hei laughed and replied.
"It's useless to say anything more, just wait to be beaten up."
"Try and catch me first."
"Fine, you better not let me catch you, otherwise you're definitely going to suffer!"
"Alright, alright, I'll be waiting." Little Hei said dismissively.
"Speaking of which, that song you sang was pretty good. Can you teach it to me?"
"This song is called 'Past Affection'. You want to learn it? Call me 'Big Brother' and let me hear it."
"Forget it, actually I don't want to learn it that much."
