69: Chapter 69 Zombie Attack

Feng Bo originally thought that with a boss like Wang Ting at the Outpost Camp, relying on his transcendent strength, it would be enough to rank among the top tier of surrounding Shelters.

Taking down such a single-story Infinite Building would only require a bit of effort.

Who could have expected such a twist?

A leader-level low-tier anomalous monster, thousands of Parasitic Fungus Vines, and several elite individuals—this was already a terrifying force capable of destroying a sheltered town.

"Bring back all the monster corpses, leftover materials, and supplies from the Jiafule Shopping Center, and then set up posts in the direction of the Industrial Zone. I've observed that the Grafted Mother Vine doesn't seem to want to leave its lair. As long as we can drag this out, we'll solve it sooner or later, so there's no need to worry so much."

Feng Bo wore a bitter smile. "How can I not worry? That monster alone is already stronger than the leaders of most sheltered towns."

Wang Ting patted Feng Bo on the shoulder, which finally boosted Feng Bo's morale a bit. "I'll have someone sharp keep an eye on it, ready to retreat at any time. But if you're not sure, Captain, you must absolutely not fight that monster to the death; we still have other opportunities."

Feng Bo was worried that Wang Ting would act rashly; the life level corresponding to a low-tier anomalous entity was a Tier 1 Transcendent.

On the wasteland, there was a universal consensus: ordinary individuals and elite individuals were just small fry; they were equivalent to ordinary humans and those warriors who broke their limits. No matter how powerful they were, they were still limited to a certain range.

However, after reaching the leader-individual level, things were completely different.

They were the facade of low-tier anomalous entities, possessing strength comparable to Transcendents—perhaps a powerful physique, or special skills.

Their abilities and characteristics varied wildly, but one point was the same—bloodline command.

The higher-level life form gave them the ability to command and drive ordinary individuals and elite individuals, which was also the origin of their leader-individual name.

For many Shelters, this commanding talent was often even more terrifying.

Just like this time, they were actually able to coordinate with elite individual monsters, attempting to entrap and kill Wang Ting in their trap.

The monsters Wang Ting killed in the Jiafule Shopping Center and the outer parking lot added up to around 200 plus, which made Feng Bo and the others increasingly busy.

The monster corpses from the day before had not yet been processed, and new ones had come over, not to mention that the monsters in the Industrial Zone still needed to be guarded against.

Early the next morning, they had to urgently dispatch more personnel, especially members of the Supplies Group, who were also pulled over.

The large parking lot was packed with cars. Although refreshed vehicles couldn't be seen at a glance, it didn't hinder them from searching for supplies; among so many scrapped cars, there were always usable parts.

Feng Bo ordered a portion of the combat group members to be led by Xiang Nan, responsible for monitoring the main building of the Hospital and the Jiafule Shopping Center, the two confirmed supply points.

Such an arrangement was, on the one hand, to rule out possible dangers, and on the other hand, to observe the time patterns of supply refreshes, so as to prepare for regular exploration of supply points later on.

The material transportation and searching of the Jiafule Shopping Center were led by Xu Yan, while Feng Bo organized all the laborers in the cafeteria building to process the monster corpses with all their might.

After the townspeople dismantled the bodies of over 200 anomalous monsters, they managed to obtain 47 transcendental materials and one transcendental core from the Vine Spider Nurse—Vine Spider Black Crystal.

The quantity of transcendental materials obtained was not small, not because the probability of these monsters dropping transcendental materials had increased, but because when Wang Ting killed these monsters, there were two Vine Skulls alone, and elite individuals would form more transcendental materials.

After the monster corpses were dismantled, the remaining parts were sent to the Vine Town stronghold.

The people at the first stronghold had long since dug a big pit under Qu Ling's arrangement, throwing all the corpses that truly couldn't be dismantled and used into it.

The monster corpses piled up like a mountain, resembling a pit of ten thousand corpses, which made people feel uncomfortable just looking at it.

Although Qu Ling didn't know what Wang Ting's intentions were, he still followed orders, filled the corpse pit bit by bit, and then covered it with soil.

While Feng Bo's side organized people to continuously dismantle corpses and search for surrounding supplies, Wang Ting spent the remaining few days alone, successively exploring the three areas of the police station, the city hall, and the library.

Wang Ting was responsible for large-scale clearing of monsters ahead, while an exploration squad led personally by Ren Chuan followed closely behind to cover, ensuring the search and marking of supplies.

The three locations were far less terrifying than the Jiafule Shopping Center. Although a large number of monsters were entrenched there, perhaps because they were not supply points, the number of monsters was much smaller.

Among them, the police station was the most dangerous, with a Thorn Vine Beast and a Vine Skull entrenched there.

The police station seemed to have undergone a major battle before; barbed wire and high walls provided protection, and vehicles were piled up, making the activity space relatively narrow. Especially under the control of the two giant beasts, it was even harder for people to charge in.

If a squad explored it, the moment they entered, they would probably be brutally torn to pieces by these two behemoths.

But Wang Ting was different; carrying the vine skull tyrant blade, he rushed straight in.

Without waiting for the two monsters to furiously charge over, he activated vines to restrict their movements, directly unleashed Earth Vine Spike to pierce through the monsters' bodies, and then executed them with the vine skull tyrant blade.

After a round of battle, along with the sporadic Parasitic Fungus Vines, they were all completely killed by him.

After killing quite a few monsters in the police station and conducting a search, Ren Chuan's squad also harvested a rich haul: four pistols, two shotguns, six to seven hundred rounds of ammunition, two grenades, and some other protective gear.

Some of these items were supplies, but more were reserve materials inside the police station.

The harvest at the police station was good, but the library and city hall were somewhat out of luck.

The library seemed to have gone through a big fire, burning down to just a skeleton. A large number of reference books were destroyed, and everywhere were scattered paper scraps, charred dust, and a large number of vines and monsters entrenched in the library.

Wang Ting fought his way through the library, killing around eighty or ninety monsters.

Arriving at the city hall, the number of monsters suddenly increased by a lot, reaching over a hundred. This number was not a few, but for Wang Ting, it was simply vulnerable.

Spending about three days to roughly clean up the three locations and the town center area, Wang Ting and the others could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Although other areas of Vine Town were still covered by a large number of vines, and monsters like Parasitic Fungus Vines would inevitably continue to breed in various corners, as long as they could not gather in groups, everything was still under control, and they wouldn't face the attacks of monster hordes like when they first moved into Vine Town.

The only danger at present was the Grafted Mother Vine in the northeast.

Just as Wang Ting was resting, Ren Chuan strode in, his face full of excitement.

"The Supplies Group, Wang Lingyu and the others, pieced together an off-road vehicle and a truck."

Ren Chuan's excitement in his tone was hard to contain: "With so many broken cars, almost not a single part was intact. Fortunately, after completely dismantling them, we suddenly found that some parts and supplies had refreshed inside certain cars, and by piecing things together, we managed to get two cars out."

"Since the pieced-together cars are usable, transport the monster corpses back."

Ren Chuan asked doubtfully: "So many monster corpses, even if beaten into fertilizer, I'm afraid we won't need this many. What are we going to do with them?"

The useful materials on the monsters had already been dismantled. Transcendental materials could be exchanged for a large amount of supplies or transcendental potions, and ordinary materials that could be used to make other items had also been taken apart.

But unexpectedly, Wang Ting wanted to keep those useless remains as well, which made Ren Chuan somewhat puzzled.

"You'll know in the future."

Wang Ting naturally had his plans; the strength of the combat group members was too weak.

Even veterans like Feng Bo, Ren Chuan, and Dong Hu had sufficient experience and their combat power wasn't weak, but they were not young anymore. Wanting to break the human limit was an extremely difficult matter.

Xiang Nan, Qu Ling, and Xu Yan had a chance, but given the current shortage of personnel, by the time they were honed, it would probably take several months or even years.

The Blood Vine Corpse Tree had to be redeemed. Although it might be postponed slightly, both he and the members of the combat group needed the blood vine fruit to strengthen their flesh and blood.

Seeing Wang Ting say this, Ren Chuan didn't ask further. The captain had his own considerations; he just needed to follow orders and act.

"I think shouldn't the off-road vehicle be disassembled and reassembled outside, just right for you to use for travel? The truck will stay in here."

Wang Ting pondered briefly. The vehicles outside the Outpost Camp were indeed not enough, so he nodded and agreed: "Let's do it that way."

"Is the gasoline still enough?"

"Gasoline might not be enough. But we can just go back to Scarecrow Town to get some from Boss Zhao and the others. We've harvested quite a few transcendental materials, so we can just send a batch over, and getting a few barrels of gasoline along the way shouldn't be a problem. It's just that there's a situation——"

Ren Chuan paused slightly, hesitating somewhat: "With you here, Boss, our exploration progress is much faster than expected. The central area has been initially suppressed, and other scattered areas can also be slowly explored and harvested. But after this wave of supplies is cleared out, the later harvest will likely drop significantly, and the next round of refreshing will probably take a very long time."

Ren Chuan was experienced and seasoned, and had already seen the crisis within this.

Like some randomly refreshed small-scale supplies, sporadically every few days they could be found in residential areas or other special corners, but those were very simple and small in quantity, perhaps a piece of bread, a box of milk, or a brand-new sock.

Although these things could also be considered a harvest, wanting to get a rich harvest like a supply point required more time to wait.

Wang Ting understood the reminder in Ren Chuan's words: after this wave of harvesting, the resource output of Vine Town would drop significantly, and they would need to wait for the next cycle to arrive.

He pondered briefly: "Focus our center of gravity on farmland reclamation; we'll wait as long as we need to."

Tap, tap, tap—rapid footsteps came over, and Fu Xing's figure abruptly entered the room where Wang Ting was.

"Captain, it's bad. Brother Dong sent news over, saying that a zombie horde is approaching. The quantity this time is several times more than last time, possibly several hundred."
