29: Chapter 29 I'll Take You Home
The afternoon sun was just right.
After filling out the paper reports, Lin Chen said goodbye to Zhang Zhi and left the Beast Control Bureau, heading once again to the Treatment Center.
He had seen or come into contact with dozens of different kinds of pets during this time, yet only the Flame Claw Beast and the Songsong Dog had been recognized by the system as Digimon. Clearly, the existence of Digimon was extremely rare, and he had to seize every opportunity to acquire them.
Furthermore, although the Songsong Dog currently had low combat power, if it could exist in a brand-new evolutionary form like the Flame Claw Beast, couldn't it evolve into an Angewomon?
It was well known that Angewomon was naturally at the opposite end of evil existences, and the passive effect of some of its skills was that the stronger the enemy's evil power, the greater the power.
Dark Species should be considered evil existences, right?
If Angewomon were to cooperate with the badge of light, what kind of combat power would it erupt with when facing Dark Species? Lin Chen was very curious about this.
To save the world, he had to contract an Angewomon for research.
Since Uncle Wang had already gone home to tidy up the farmhouse and livestock shed that had been turned into a mess by the Gale Weasel, he was the only one heading to the Treatment Center.
A long while later.
Lin Chen stood behind the door, looked at the Flame Claw Beast beside him, and hesitated.
Would it be inappropriate to bring this guy in?
He felt inexplicably guilty.
So Lin Chen clenched his fist and coughed lightly, speaking tactfully: "Er Huo, why don't you return to the Beast Taming Space for a while?"
"Gagu?"
The Flame Claw Beast raised its head to look over, its gaze falling on Lin Chen's unnatural expression, a look of suspicion appearing on its face.
What was wrong with Lin Chen?
Lin Chen continued: "Nothing else, it's just... the room is too small, it probably can't fit both of us."
"Gagu?"
The Flame Claw Beast tilted its head, looking at the rest room where the Songsong Dog was for a moment, then at Lin Chen's shifty eyes, falling into deep thought.
Suddenly, the Flame Claw Beast raised its head abruptly: "Gagu!"
Are you guys trying to sneak off and eat kebabs behind my back!
Damn you, Lin Chen!
Lin Chen rubbed his forehead helplessly, not knowing whether to laugh or cry: "Why would I eat kebabs behind your back?"
"Gagu!!"
The Flame Claw Beast waved its claws excitedly, its face full of disbelief.
Lin Chen held up a finger and said: "How about this, I'll buy you a kebab later."
"Gagu!"
The Flame Claw Beast crossed its claws over its chest and snorted coldly.
Was it the kind of pet that could be bought off so easily with kebabs?
Lin Chen slowly raised a second finger, watching the Flame Claw Beast's expression at all times: "How about two?"
The Flame Claw Beast slowly raised its head, its claws moving slightly, and suspicious white liquid had already appeared at the corners of its mouth, but it forced itself to look away: "Gagu!"
Two won't work either.
Seeing this, Lin Chen stepped toward the rest room: "Forget it then, let's go in together."
Just as he took a step, the corner of his clothes was tightly gripped by the Flame Claw Beast.
Lin Chen turned his head, only to see the Flame Claw Beast staring at him longingly, raising its claws tremblingly: "Gagu~"
Deal, two it is!
Lin Chen smiled and walked into the rest room.
The afternoon sunlight filtered through the blinds, cutting strips of warm light and shadow onto the clean white floor tiles and bed sheets.
It was very quiet in the room, with only the slight sound of instruments running.
On the hospital bed, the small figure had already woken up.
The Songsong Dog wasn't lying flat, but rather, in a slightly awkward position that tried not to disturb its wounds, it was lying slightly on its side, its small head resting on a soft pillow, quietly looking out the window.
Outside the window was the ordinary street scene of the small town, with few pedestrians, and the trees swaying gently in the breeze.
Its eyes were very quiet, seemingly still carrying a bit of post-operative daze, but its condition looked much better.
Hearing the slight sound of the door opening, it turned its ears alertly, slowly turned its head, and its gaze met Lin Chen's, who was standing at the door.
In that instant, Lin Chen's figure was clearly reflected in those obsidian-like, clear round eyes.
It was him.
It was the human who had saved it.
Scene after scene surfaced in its mind at this moment, and the Songsong Dog seemed to have returned to the time when it was seriously injured by the Gale Weasel, returned to being held in those warm, large hands...
Warm, large hands.
At this moment, the Songsong Dog didn't know what it had thought of, but a faint, light pink color spread across that furry little face at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Lin Chen was stunned.
Could pets blush too?
The Songsong Dog seemed to be stunned for a moment itself, then, as if startled by this sudden reaction, or perhaps not knowing how to deal with this scene, it hurriedly shrank its head down in a panic.
Its entire upper body, along with the front paw that wasn't in a cast, quickly burrowed under the clean white thin blanket covering it.
The next second, only a bulging blanket bundle was left on the bed, along with a small tuft of fur tips still exposed and trembling slightly.
Lin Chen: "..."
Was this reaction shyness? Or was it scared by him?
He softened his footsteps, walked to the bedside, and sat down on the chair next to it.
Looking at the motionless bundle that seemed determined to be a blanket-beast for the rest of its life, he thought for a moment and spoke softly in the gentlest tone possible:
"Songsong Dog, I'm Lin Chen. We were the ones who brought you here this morning, do you remember?"
The blanket bundle moved almost imperceptibly, but it didn't make a sound, nor did it show its head, only its tail twitched gently.
"The doctor has already treated your wounds, and you need to rest for a few days. Uncle Wang has gone home to tidy up, and he said he would come to see you tomorrow."
"You can rest assured staying here; the Federation has a series of perfect measures for the rescue of wild pets, so you don't need to worry about anything else, just rest well."
Even though the Songsong Dog didn't react, Lin Chen kept talking slowly, as if talking to himself, and as if comforting it:
"After your injuries recover, you have two choices: first, enter a public Nursery, where food and housing are provided, but you need to sign a contract with a Beast Tamer you approve of; second, return to the wild and live your previous life."
The blanket bundle remained silent.
Lin Chen waited for a while, seeing no reaction, and didn't force it.
When dealing with highly vigilant pets, one cannot be too impatient; one must reduce its defenses little by little, like moistening things silently.
He stood up, took out a nutritional paste suitable for small pets during the recovery period from the bag he brought, and placed it gently on the bedside table.
"This is to supplement your nutrition; eat a little when you're hungry, and I'll come see you again tomorrow."
After speaking, he took one last look at that stubborn blanket bundle, turned around, and walked toward the door.
The blanket moved, and a small head peeked out cautiously. The pitch-black eyes first looked at the nutritional paste, then immediately looked at Lin Chen's back.
"Ying wu~"
It subconsciously opened its mouth and let out a soft cry.
Lin Chen turned around and looked over, smiling brightly: "Oh right, there is a third choice."
"I'll take you home, from now on you will live with me and become my pet."
"We will work hard together and become stronger together."
"Most importantly, you will never have to go hungry again."
After saying this, Lin Chen didn't linger and gently closed the door.
The ward returned to silence.
