63: Chapter 64 Sorry, I just finished...
Time rewound two hours.
Hill 391 was pouring rain.
Mud mixed with blood flowed down from the scorched earth churned up by artillery shells,
converging into streams of dark red.
Jack was like a lurking leopard, pressing his body entirely into the mud and water,
revealing only a pair of eyes flashing with cold light in the darkness.
The rainwater washed away the camouflage paint smeared on his face,
making him look like an Asura crawling out of hell.
Beside him, Brother Bao was silently using his entrenching tool to loosen the soil beneath a hidden sentry post.
His movements were precise and efficient, without a single wasted motion,
each swing of the shovel perfectly masked by the lightning flashes and thunder overhead.
This was their mission—to seize this strategic location using the most primitive and brutal methods, precisely when arguments at the negotiating table were fiercest.
There was no artillery support, no bugle call for the charge, and they couldn't even fire a single shot.
Because this was a battle that 'did not exist,' taking place during negotiations.
The reinforced company of American soldiers stationed here were clearly complacent.
In their view, the continuous heavy rain and the recently concluded Battle of Iron Field
had completely exhausted the energy of those 'Yellow Monkey' opponents across the way.
An American sentry yawned and shivered, complaining about the awful weather.
He failed to notice that death was quietly approaching beneath his feet.
Brother Bao completed his final preparations and gave Jack a signal.
Jack took a deep breath and let out a short hoot like an owl.
It was the signal to attack.
The assault team, composed of dozens of players and NPCs hidden around them, erupted from the mud like ghosts.
There were no shouts, only heavy gasps and the sound of blades slicing through the rain curtain.
Jack's target was the machine gun nest on the hilltop.
He moved like a slippery loach,
weaving between shell craters and corpses.
An American soldier who was smoking just sensed something,
when an entrenching tool slammed viciously into his neck from the side.
The dull thud of shattering bone was perfectly covered by the sound of the downpour.
Brother Bao, leading another team, crept toward the enemy's command tent.
He held two pineapple grenades with their fuses pulled, his expression terrifyingly calm.
This was a primitive massacre.
In the pitch-black night where one could barely see their hand in front of their face, all high-tech scopes were useless.
What determined life or death was only the purest combat instinct and the resolve to die.
The Volunteer Army soldiers used daggers, bayonets, stones, and even their teeth
to engage in the most ferocious close-quarters combat against enemies whose physical conditioning far surpassed their own.
A young player was pinned beneath a large, burly American soldier and was about to be strangled.
He suddenly headbutted the opponent's nose, and the moment the enemy cried out in pain, he bit through the man's windpipe.
His mouth was full of fresh blood and shredded flesh, but he just spat it out with a 'Pah!' and grabbed the enemy's rifle to charge toward the next target.
The perspective shifted back to the negotiation tent.
Harrison was still incessantly boasting about the impregnable firepower network of Hill 391
and the victory banquet his subordinates were about to enjoy.
That old-fashioned telephone continued to ring relentlessly.
Our side's representative remained composed, seemingly not hearing it at all.
Harrison frowned, finally growing impatient,
and roared at the communications soldier behind him, "Go turn that thing off!"
Just as the communications soldier was about to step forward,
the tent flap was violently thrown open,
and an American Second Lieutenant tumbled in, soaked and covered in mud, with a distinct bullet hole in his helmet, his expression showing extreme terror.
"Colonel! Hill 391... Hill 391..."
He gasped for breath, unable to complete a full sentence.
Harrison's heart skipped a beat, an ominous premonition surging into his mind.
Just then, our representative gave a meaningful look to one of our Communication Runners.
That young Communication Runner walked over,
and unhurriedly picked up the phone that had been ringing for so long.
He listened for only a few seconds,
then handed the receiver to Dai Dai.
"Comrade, it's for you."
Dai Dai took the ice-cold receiver and held it to her ear.
What came through was Jack's ragged, wheezing breaths, like a broken bellows.
"Dai Dai... tell those bastards..."
In the background, the pained wails and desperate pleas of American prisoners could be heard.
"...We drank their coffee for them."
Jack's voice was hoarse,
but carried an ineffable sense of triumph.
Dai Dai's eyes instantly turned red.
She knew that behind this short sentence
lay a slaughter so brutal it was unimaginable.
She hung up the phone,
but a brilliant smile, the first genuinely heartfelt one since entering the game, appeared on her face.
Under the suspicious and uncertain gazes of Harrison and all the American representatives,
she slowly walked to the map, picked up the red and blue pencils from the table.
She did not erase the red circle representing Hill 391,
but instead used the red end
to draw an even larger circle outside the original one,
firmly enclosing Hill 391 within our own positions.
Having done this, she pushed the map back in front of Harrison,
and said clearly, word by word:
"Excuse me, Colonel."
"Just now, my comrade informed me that this piece of land is already ours."
Inside the tent, there was a dead silence.
Harrison's face visibly turned from ashen to liver-red.
At that moment, in the live broadcast rooms, the screens of five hundred million players were flooded with the same word:
"Awesome!"
Harrison jumped up abruptly, and due to the excessive force, he even knocked over the chair he had been using to elevate himself.
He pointed at our representative, his voice distorted by extreme rage:
"You are playing with fire! You are provoking the bottom line of the entire free world! Don't forget, in our arsenal, we still have weapons you cannot even imagine!"
He almost roared, "We will use atomic bombs to wipe you and this damned land off the face of the Earth!"
