253: Chapter 253 The True Face of the Asura Camp, A Group of Desperate Desperados
"Those bastards!" Jiang Feng cursed in anger, his hands gripping the door crack tightly. "Locking it from the inside with such thick steel chains! It's clear they don't want us to get in!"
Lin Qinghan's eyes were cold as she gripped her sword hilt. "Let me shatter the chain."
"No need."
A hand casually pushed Jiang Feng aside.
Su Chen walked to the heavy gate, which had been crudely welded together from discarded mecha wrecks. He didn't shout or yell. Nor did he, like a typical newly appointed official, bang on the door to lecture about military rules and regulations.
Talk about rules? With a bunch of exiled death row inmates and lunatics, what rules were there to talk about!
Su Chen's hands remained in the pockets of his Major General's trench coat.
He stared quietly at the heavy, multi-ton scrap-metal gate before him. Within his body, the terrifying vitality, just transformed by the [Sage Body], surged wildly like a great river!
He didn't use a shred of spiritual energy. Nor did he coat it with any layer of [Armament Haki].
What Su Chen intended to use was merely the pure, extreme physical brute strength of this body, reshaped by high-dimensional life force!
Su Chen lifted his right leg back quite casually.
Immediately after.
His waist twisted, and his thigh muscles tightened instantly like steel cables! With extreme violence! He delivered a fierce kick!
"BOOM————!!!"
A heaven-shaking roar, as if it would shatter even the extreme northern snowstorm, exploded outside the gates of the Shura Camp!
"CRACK!"
That steel chain, thicker than a grown man's thigh, acted like a mushy, overcooked noodle under the incomprehensible physical kinetic energy of Su Chen's kick!
It didn't even last half a second. It instantly snapped into a dozen pieces of scrap metal, flying wildly in all directions!
"BANG!"
The entire multi-ton scrap-metal gate was kicked inward by Su Chen, detaching from its frame!
Like a heavy cannonball leaving the barrel! It flew backward into the camp with a terrifying, air-tearing whistle! It tumbled violently in mid-air for a dozen turns!
"BOOM!!!"
Finally, it slammed heavily into the frozen, iron-hard snow in the center of the camp! It smashed out a bottomless pit several meters in diameter! Snow and iron shards erupted into the sky like an explosion!
"Let's go."
Su Chen withdrew his right leg. His hands remained in his pockets.
He strode through the gate of the Shura Camp, stepping over the dancing snowflakes and iron shards. Jiang Feng and Lin Qinghan gripped their weapons and followed closely behind.
However.
When the three stepped inside and saw the scene within, Jiang Feng and Lin Qinghan's footsteps came to an abrupt halt.
This was no regular military camp of the Great Xia! This was clearly a den of desperate bandits through and through!
There were no orderly barracks in the entire camp. Everywhere were crude, makeshift tents constructed from the fur and bones of high-level exotic beasts.
The air was filled with a pungent smell of blood, cheap alcohol, and a nauseating stench of rot.
What was even more shocking were the people here!
Hundreds of burly men, all exuding a thick Evil Qi, were gathered in groups of two or three in the camp square. Every one of their faces and bodies was covered in hideous, terrifying scars that looked like centipedes!
"Gulp! Gulp!"
Beside a campfire on the left, a dozen burly men were actually shirtless! In the extreme cold of minus seventy degrees, they were chugging a deep-abyss liquor that emitted a ghostly green glow!
This liquor was highly poisonous; an ordinary Martial Artist would have their intestines rotted through after a single sip. But they drank until their faces were flushed red, letting out wild, beast-like laughter.
"Sizzle! Sizzle!"
In front of a tent on the right, a one-eyed man was sitting cross-legged in the snow. He held a thick, white human bone in his hand! He was forcefully sharpening the blood-stained, serrated machete in his hand, stroke by stroke!
And the craziest part was in the very center of the camp!
Right next to the deep pit where the gate had just landed, two veterans with bloodshot eyes and blood-covered bodies were fighting to the death!
"Put that meat down! I risked my life to hack that off!" one veteran roared, his military dagger stabbing fiercely into the other's stomach.
"Screw you! Once it's in my hands, it's mine!" The other veteran didn't back down. Risking a deep, bone-exposing gash on his thigh, he smashed his fist hard into the other's nose bridge!
The two were like wild beasts driven mad protecting their food. They were stabbing each other frantically in the snow! Blood instantly stained the surrounding white snow red!
And what they were fighting over was merely a piece of high-level exotic beast thigh meat, still streaked with blood!
What was even more hair-raising was that dozens of soldier thugs had gathered around.
Not only did none of them step forward to stop it, but they were all waving their fists excitedly, cheering and placing bets!
"Stab his neck! Yes! Stab hard!"
"I bet ten military merit points! The cripple wins!"
"Bite his ear! Bite him!"
Madness. Bloodthirst. No bottom line. No military discipline to speak of.
This was the true nature of the Shura Camp! A pack of mad dogs, completely abandoned by the Great Xia, struggling to survive in the depths of Hell!
"These guys... they're all lunatics!" Cold sweat seeped from Jiang Feng's palms as he gripped his giant axe. He was a tough man himself, but facing this atmosphere of killing purely for the sake of killing, he still felt a sense of trepidation.
Lin Qinghan's brows were furrowed even tighter. In a place like this, there was no reason to be talked about, only the most primitive Law of the jungle.
"BOOM!" The lingering sound of the gate hitting the ground finally faded in the camp.
This heaven-shaking roar finally made the dancing mob of soldier thugs stop their actions.
The burly men drinking by the fire put down their bottles. The one-eyed man sharpening his blade stopped with the human bone. Even in the center of the camp, the two veterans who were frantically stabbing each other, with blade tips already pressed against each other's throats, abruptly stopped.
The entire Shura Camp instantly fell into a deathly silence.
Hundreds of bloodshot eyes turned in unison! Like hundreds of starving wolves, they stared at the three of them—Su Chen, Jiang Feng, and Lin Qinghan—standing at the gate!
The wind and snow whistled through the camp.
These hundreds of gazes felt like tangible blades. They scrutinized Su Chen, who stood at the very front. They looked at the spotless, crisp, brand-new black Major General's coat on him. They looked at the shining golden general's star on his shoulder. They looked at his fair, delicate face, only eighteen years old.
In the eyes of these desperadoes, there was not a shred of reverence for a general! Much less obedience to a superior!
All there was, was greed for fresh prey! And unmasked, naked, extreme murderous intent!
"Another pampered soldier here to die." From the crowd, someone, it was unclear who, let out an extremely hoarse, cold laugh.
"Looking so delicate and tender, this meat is probably tastier than an exotic beast's." Another soldier thug licked his lips, toying with a blood-stained dagger in his hand.
"Major General? Hahaha! How many days did that Major last last month?"
"Three days! We threw him into a beast tide, and not even his bone fragments were left!"
Unrestrained laughter and discussion rose and fell throughout the camp.
That terrifying atmosphere, suppressed to the extreme and filled with xenophobia and bloodthirst, pressed down like an invisible mountain. It was enough to make any new recruit fresh to the battlefield go weak in the knees and suffer a mental breakdown on the spot!
Jiang Feng gritted his teeth, stepped forward abruptly, and held his giant axe across his chest. Lin Qinghan also drew her frost sword, pointing the tip straight ahead. Both were on high alert.
However.
Facing these hundreds of bloodthirsty "wolves," and facing this suffocating, terrifying murderous intent, Su Chen, standing at the very front in the wind and snow, did not take a single step back. He didn't even take his hands out of his pockets.
He lifted his chin slightly. Those deep, ink-black eyes swept across the scene indifferently.
He swept past the blood-stained blades. He swept past the hideous scars. He swept past those faces filled with madness and mockery.
Suddenly.
Su Chen smiled.
It was not the bitter smile of someone scared witless. Nor was it the cold smile of someone feigning composure.
Instead, the corners of his mouth curled upward, bit by bit. He slowly outlined a grin—one that was extremely excited, extremely fanatical! Crueler, more violent, and more bloodthirsty than the hundreds of desperadoes before him!
"Finally."
Su Chen's hoarse voice carried clearly across the entire camp in the howling wind. He looked at this group of soldier thugs, his eyes revealing the madness of a hunter seeing prime prey.
"Arrived at a..."
"Not-so-boring place."
