5: Chapter 5 Lin Bansian, I Want to Do Daily Jobs

Old Wang's BBQ Stall is a treasure of a night market stall for Shen University students.

This night market stall is run by a married couple.

The boss's surname is Wang, he is around 50 years old, and students like to call him Brother Wang.

At 7 PM, the night market stall was already fully occupied.

Chen Wei had dyed his hair a flashy red, wore an ear stud, and had ripped jeans; he was the epitome of a flashy lad.

It is hard to imagine that this kid actually managed to get into the Literature Department of Shen University.

In his own words, this kind of attire is what gives one the temperament of a writer.

Going to "get a shampoo" is also a writer's romance.

"Number Two, you couldn't even afford to eat a few days ago, how did you suddenly get rich?"

"Oh... right, I saw Teacher Tian leaving school with you that day. Honestly, were you being kept by her?"

"Stop talking nonsense. I was just asking her some questions about my studies."

"Don't be nervous, I was just saying it casually. But Teacher Tian is really hot—early thirties, married, slightly plump. That kind of young married woman, tsk tsk tsk."

This kid has extremely strong insight, especially regarding such special relationships between men and women; he is spot on every time.

Before his rebirth, his relationship with Tian Xue was not public, and only Chen Wei had sniffed out that something was off.

Before he was expelled, he had often probed Lin Feng.

"Just drink and eat your skewers. It seems even food can't shut your mouth."

"Damn it, I saw a hot post on the BBS. The Literature Department beauty, Zhang Ying, had a miscarriage in public. Number Two, does your heart ache?"

"Why the hell would my heart ache? It's not my seed."

"Isn't she your 'white moonlight'?"

Li Jiang stuffed his mouth with meat and said indistinctly, "Number Two has opened his mind; he's incredible."

He recounted what happened at school that evening, leaving Chen Wei stunned.

He never expected that the infatuated Lin Feng would actually wake up.

"Number Two, I have to say, this time you've really impressed me. Come, bottoms up."

The three of them clinked glasses and drank it all in one gulp.

There were more and more people in the Food Court, and the occasional shouts and cheers made Lin Feng feel a sense of familiarity.

Only after entering society does one realize that university is the most comfortable four years of one's life.

Two hours later, the three of them had finished three crates of beer and were all pretty much tipsy.

Just as Lin Feng was preparing to pay the bill, the sound of sirens came from the distant street.

Vaguely, one could see more than a dozen police cars whizzing past.

Behind the police cars, there was also a bus.

"What happened? Why are there so many police cars?"

"I haven't heard of any recent crackdowns. Is it possible someone is fighting again?"

"Would fighting require so many police? And a bus? It's not the 1990s."

"Huh, why did that police car stop at the entrance of the Food Court?"

About seven or eight uniformed police officers entered the Food Court.

"Everyone, don't be nervous. It's just a routine ID check; it will be over very soon."

After the lead police officer explained their purpose, everyone was quite cooperative.

Because Chen Wei's attire was quite "trendy," he was treated as a key target, and they almost questioned him about his ancestors back to the eighteenth generation.

"Officer, I am truly a law-abiding citizen, a talented student from the Shen University Literature Department."

"Hmm, get your hair fixed to look normal when you have time. You're a university student, not a little hooligan."

"See, isn't this discrimination?"

Chen Wei took his ID card back from the police officer, muttering to himself.

"Student Chen, judging people by their appearance is wrong, but if you went to look for a job dressed like this, you would definitely be discriminated against. We are just reminding you."

"We were just conducting an anti-vice sweep on the next street over; even the thugs guarding those shampoo parlors looked more decent than you."

The middle-aged police officer lectured him with a serious expression, but Chen Wei's expression stiffened, and his back broke out in a cold sweat.

"Officer, with so many police deployed, wasn't it because of a fight?"

"It's 2010 already. Do you think it's the 90s? Still fighting? We are doing a surprise inspection for anti-vice and anti-pornography to improve the city's image."

"Then... was Garden Street completely swept?"

"That's right, Student Chen. You haven't been to Garden Street, have you?"

"Oh my, Officer, I am still a student. That place is a den of vice; I've long thought it should be wiped out."

"I am a good, upstanding citizen; you cannot slander me."

The middle-aged police officer gave him a deep look and said meaningfully, "It's best if you haven't been. If you really had, your future would be ruined."

"It's getting late. Go back to school early, or the dorm doors will be locked."

"Alright, Officer, take care."

Chen Wei waved with a smile like a total idiot.

Li Jiang stood there blankly like a stone statue, as if he had been hit by an immobilization spell.

"Brother Wei, alright, they've left."

He was kicked by Lin Feng, shuddered, and grabbed Lin Feng's hand. That intense gaze made Lin Feng's skin crawl.

"Don't be like that. I have no interest in your chrysanthemum, and you shouldn't be interested in mine either."

"Lin Half-Immortal, you are god-like."

"Stop shouting. Do you want everyone to know you went to a shampoo parlor?"

He quickly covered his mouth, but he couldn't hide his excitement and joy in his eyes. The feeling of surviving a disaster was too good.

"I know you're grateful, just calling me Daddy will do."

"Daddy, you are my father, my own father."

Lin Feng: "..."

"Brother Wei, this time it was just good luck, but you should go less often in the future, or you'll get into trouble sooner or later," Lin Feng said earnestly.

"I won't go, I'll never go again. It's safer to just meet netizens."

"Damn, stop courting death. If it weren't for Number Two, you would be done for today."

Recovering, Li Jiang snapped at Chen Wei, and his eyes were full of shock as he looked at Lin Feng.

Recalling the expression on Lin Feng's face when he asked him to call Chen Wei earlier, could it be that he had known the police would conduct an anti-vice sweep today?

After paying the bill, Lin Feng looked at the stall, lost in thought.

[Tomorrow night at 9 PM, a robber wanted by the police will appear at Old Wang's Night Snack Stall. Hidden Intel: A bird startled by the mere twang of a bowstring, at the end of his rope, no threat. Subdue him to receive a 5000 yuan bounty.]

"Number Two, haven't you finished paying yet? Is the money not enough? Should I do it?"

Chen Wei was still immersed in the joy and pride of having narrowly escaped death.

"I've paid. But I still have something to do."

"Something else? Tsk tsk tsk, don't tell me you have a date with some beauty?"

Chen Wei's nature was hard to change, and his expression became lewd again.

"Li Jiang, Brother Wei, we aren't young anymore. In the blink of an eye, we'll graduate, so we need to learn how to earn our own money."

"Huh? Earn our own money? Aren't we still studying?"

"Number Two, you don't want to do a work-study program, do you?"

Their family backgrounds were all very good, and they had never thought about working while in college. They were all surprised and unexpected by Lin Feng's idea.

"It's not really a work-study program. I saw that Old Wang's BBQ is hiring for a daily wage job. Since I have nothing to do anyway, I'll come work for a day tomorrow and give it a try."

"Number Two, don't do anything rash. If you don't play in university, when will you play?"

"Brother Wei is right. Coming to do a daily wage job at night, won't you be exhausted?"

"It's fine, I'm just here to experience life. Besides, a daily wage job means you get paid for each day you work; if I don't want to do it, I can leave anytime."

"Making a bit more money to subsidize my living expenses can also make my life a bit better."

After Lin Feng finished speaking, he looked at the boss, who was sweating profusely while grilling skewers, and smiled: "Boss Wang, are you hiring for a daily wage job? I'll come work for a day tomorrow night."

"Young man, can you handle it? This job isn't easy. From 5 PM to 3 AM, I can only give you 30 yuan."

"Fine, no problem. I'll report for duty on time tomorrow."

Lin Feng agreed readily. He wasn't here to do a daily wage job, but to collect the 5000 yuan bounty.
