56: It's good to watch horror movies

Lin Zhuimiao, who had just barely recovered her composure, felt an inexplicable twinge of guilt when Feng Fangfang asked her that.

"Maybe... I have a bit of a cold."

She casually made up an excuse, but Xu Zimo put down his chopsticks and asked her, "Is it serious? We have cold medicine at home, or I can take you to the hospital."

If she had a cold, she would naturally have to take medicine... and get injections.

"It's fine, no need to go to all that trouble."

Lin Zhuimiao hastily refused, which made Jiang Yuwei and Jiang Youqi look at her in surprise.

They clearly didn't understand why Lin Zhuimiao was acting this way.

Nothing had happened, after all.

How strange.

Afterward, things seemed to return to normal, but Lin Zhuimiao was noticeably stealing glances at Xu Zimo from time to time.

Actually, when she came last week, she just felt that Xu Zimo was very rich, incredibly rich, and besides that, he was a very nice and generous person.

They had only accompanied him for a bit of shopping, and he had bought each person in the dorm a bracelet worth nearly forty thousand yuan.

It was the most expensive gift she had ever received.

Now, looking closely at Xu Zimo, Lin Zhuimiao suddenly realized that he seemed to be not just rich and kind, but also quite handsome.

And he was the type that became more attractive the more you looked at him.

Thump-thump!~

The sudden acceleration of her heartbeat made Lin Zhuimiao nervously lower her head.

No.

What kind of messy thoughts was she having? This was Jiang Yuwei's boyfriend.

It was with this complex mindset that Lin Zhuimiao helped clean up after they finished eating.

The sky gradually darkened.

Although the night view was nice, the conversation dwindled, so Feng Fangfang suggested watching a movie.

When the curtains closed, the indoor space seemed to suddenly become much narrower, as if it wasn't as spacious anymore.

Since they were using a projector on the wall, everyone sat on the U-shaped sofa furthest away.

Feng Fangfang was standing, choosing a movie.

Xu Zimo naturally sat with Jiang Yuwei, directly in the middle of the long sofa.

There were empty seats on both sides, but Feng Fangfang quickly took a seat on Jiang Yuwei's side.

Lin Zhuimiao paused for a moment when she was about to sit down; feeling a bit guilty, she didn't dare to sit next to Xu Zimo, and instead squeezed Jiang Youqi, who had originally intended to sit at the very end, further down.

Although there was still some distance, the introverted and somewhat socially anxious Jiang Youqi became restless.

She didn't know why, but she always felt a little afraid of Xu Zimo.

As the movie began, the first scene made the girls scream.

It was a horror movie.

The sudden appearance of a ghost made Jiang Yuwei constantly shrink into Xu Zimo's arms.

On the other side, Lin Zhuimiao also kept leaning towards Jiang Youqi out of fear, inadvertently pushing Jiang Youqi and Xu Zimo much closer together.

And the introverted and timid Jiang Youqi, being terrified, didn't even notice.

Among the four girls, only Feng Fangfang was a bit braver; although she was watching the screen, her gaze kept flicking to her roommates and Xu Zimo.

Watching horror movies really is the best way to bring people closer.

Jiang Youqi, who had always maintained the furthest distance from Xu Zimo, now had no idea that she was almost leaning against him.

Subsequently, the sounds of the girls screaming continuously echoed through the room.

Even though he was watching a horror movie, Xu Zimo felt quite pleased; his mind wasn't on the movie at all.

Because... Feng Fangfang wasn't being honest.

One of his arms was originally around Jiang Yuwei, but now, his entire arm was tightly wrapped.

Feng Fangfang appeared to be leaning against Jiang Yuwei's side, but in reality, she was practically holding onto Xu Zimo's arm.

When Xu Zimo looked at her, Little Streamer even winked at him with excited eyes.

Alright, alright, alright.

Caught in the act, huh?

Xu Zimo hadn't expected her to be so bold, daring to play with fire.

But, he had to admit, it was genuinely a little... thrilling.

It wasn't for nothing that he had been good to her.

How should he reward her?

As he pondered.

Xu Zimo felt another soft body lean against him from the other side.

It was Jiang Youqi.

She seemed very scared, her body somewhat tense, but her deer-like eyes were still glued to the screen, afraid of missing a single detail.

Precisely because of this, she didn't realize she was leaning against Xu Zimo, and even instinctively sought security, unconsciously moving even closer.

Hiss!... Xu Zimo took a sharp breath.

Terrifying, indeed.

There truly was great horror hidden within.

The 125-minute horror film even made Xu Zimo, a brave person, stiffen up in fear.

Until the credits rolled, and though the lights hadn't come on yet, the tense nerves of everyone present relaxed slightly.

Jiang Youqi was also like this.

Having let out a sigh of relief, she immediately noticed something was amiss, and instinctively turned her head to see Xu Zimo.

At that moment, Xu Zimo distinctly felt her entire body tense up.

Fortunately, he had anticipated this, kept his gaze straight ahead, and, before she could react, pulled Jiang Yuwei up.

"You all continue, I'm going in... to rest a bit."

He acted as if he had no idea what had happened, greeted them, and then pulled Jiang Yuwei, who was still a bit dazed, towards the room.

This was hardly enjoyment; it was clearly seeking torment.

And so... Jiang Yuwei suffered, becoming the scapegoat.

In the living room.

Although a new movie was already playing, Jiang Youqi seemed somewhat distracted, her eyes flickering restlessly.

Xu Zimo had left.

However, the spot where he had just been still held residual warmth, as if he were still sitting there, which made Jiang Youqi's mind unable to settle.

Her mother had passed away from illness when she was seven, and her father quickly married a stepmother, who then gave birth to a younger brother the following year. Consequently, her status at home was truly worse than that of a dog.

She couldn't make noise while eating, or she would be scolded.

From the time she started elementary school, she was already doing housework; at just ten years old, she took on all the household chores.

Washing dishes, doing laundry, mopping floors... and then cooking.

It could be said that ever since her mother passed away, she had never again felt the warmth of a home.

Because of this, her personality became introverted, timid, and she was afraid to communicate with others.

Fortunately, after entering university, she met some good roommates who took care of her in every way.

Although Jiang Youqi didn't say it aloud, she was very grateful to her three roommates in her heart and considered them her best friends.

But just now, she had... she felt she had let Jiang Yuwei down.

Luckily, it seemed no one had noticed, and Xu Zimo hadn't shown any unusual reactions.

She must have been overthinking it, right?

After all, besides being close, they hadn't done anything out of line.

Jiang Youqi secretly glanced at Lin Zhuimiao and Feng Fangfang, quietly letting out a sigh of relief.

In the future... she must stay away from him; such a thing must not happen again.
