124: Chapter 124 This potion is very valuable
The alarm sounded like a crazed electric drill, boring into one's brain.
The thickened blast-proof glass didn't hold up for long.
Accompanied by a teeth-grinding screech of twisting metal, the entire wall, along with the glass frame, exploded inward.
Before the dust had even settled, that dark green behemoth had already squeezed its way in.
It was even larger than it had looked on the outside surveillance footage; its shoulders brushed against the ceiling pipes, and the ground shook with every step it took.
"Take the hard drive and go." Chen Mo shoved the silver data box into Ava's arms and gave her a push.
Ava stumbled back two steps, her face deathly pale.
She glanced back to see the monster casually grab a server rack weighing several hundred pounds and smash it into the nearby console as if it were a toy block.
Sparks flew everywhere.
"Elizabeth, cover them."
Chen Mo pressed his earpiece to say this, then drew the Nepalese kukri from behind his waist with a backhand motion.
He didn't put away the M1911 in his other hand, though for this thick-skinned monster in front of him, it probably wouldn't even count as a scratch.
The failed test subject codenamed Tyrant turned its head.
It had no pupils, only two murky clots of blood.
It saw Chen Mo, or rather, it smelled the scent of a living human.
"Roar!"
A wave of sound, mixed with the stench of bad breath, rushed toward him.
The monster was like an out-of-control tank, smashing through a row of server racks in its path and charging straight at him. Its speed was unreasonably fast.
Chen Mo did not retreat.
The moment that arm, thicker than his own thigh, swept across, he ducked abruptly, his knees sliding across the smooth floor.
The wind pressure passing over his head stung his skin.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
He fired three shots in rapid succession while sliding.
The bullets hit the monster's knee pit with precision.
It was useless.
The bullets lodged themselves in the hyper-proliferated muscle fibers, splashing only a few small droplets of blood.
The monster didn't even pause; it turned and stomped down.
The floor tiles cracked.
Chen Mo rolled away, using the momentum of getting up to fiercely slash his kukri across the monster's calf tendon.
This time, the feeling was wrong.
The blade felt like it had cut into a piece of old cowhide, with astonishing resistance.
Although it opened a gash, it did not sever the thick tendon.
"Skeletal density enhanced, muscle fiber toughness is ten times that of a normal person."
Jack's voice sounded somewhat urgent in the earpiece, "Boss, don't try to match its strength, that's suicide."
"Shut up, find the weak point."
Chen Mo caught his breath, staring at the roaring monster.
Although this thing had great strength, it wasn't very smart.
It was enraged by the wound on its leg, frantically destroying everything around it.
Chen Mo noticed a metallic protrusion on the back of the thing's neck.
The surrounding skin was a necrotic purple-black, and a few pipes were plugged in there, swaying with its movements.
The interface for the control chip.
That was the place used to issue commands to this killing machine or to force a shutdown.
The monster charged again.
This time it was closing its hands together, wanting to swat this annoying fly to death.
Chen Mo threw his empty gun at the monster's face, and taking advantage of the moment it turned its head, he stepped on a nearby collapsed server rack and jumped.
He grabbed the ventilation duct on the ceiling in mid-air, swung himself, and landed on the monster's back.
He held the kukri with an underhand grip and stabbed it fiercely into the gap of that metallic interface.
"Click."
The tip of the blade pried open the protective plate.
The monster let out a shrill scream, shaking its body frantically; that was the excruciating pain of its nerve center being touched.
Chen Mo held on tightly to the exposed pipe, being thrown around like he was on a roller coaster.
He used his teeth to pull the pins of two high-explosive grenades on his tactical vest.
"Eat something good."
He shoved the grenades right into the flesh of the monster's neck through the pried-open wound.
He let go, pushed off, and used the force to spring away.
Chen Mo landed and rolled, diving directly behind a row of server racks nearby.
"Boom!"
A dull explosion echoed in the narrow space.
The monster's head, along with half of its shoulder, was simply gone.
Red, white, and green goo smeared the wall. The massive headless corpse swayed twice, then collapsed to the ground like a falling mountain, twitching a few times before it stopped moving.
Chen Mo stood up and brushed the dust off himself.
"Jack, how much longer for the surveillance system in this place?"
"Done." The sound of keyboard typing came through the earpiece.
"I left three logic locks in their internal network; as soon as they restart the system, this place will go blind. There are also a few pinhole cameras in perfect positions."
"Withdraw."
Chen Mo stepped over the corpse that was still leaking green slime.
At the end of the corridor, Ava was holding that Browning, her hands shaking violently.
Seeing Chen Mo walk out, her legs went weak, and she almost sat down on the ground.
"Take the freight elevator, Nightingale is waiting there to receive us."
Chen Mo pulled Ava up without looking back at the carnage.
Ten minutes later.
The night wind of the wilderness blew away the scent of blood on them.
The lincoln Navigator was already speeding down the highway.
The abandoned copper mine behind them remained deathly silent, as if nothing had ever happened.
Only the faint sound of alarms coming from deep underground proved that it had just experienced a catastrophe.
It was already three in the morning when they returned to the safe house in Midland.
This was a detached villa located in the suburbs, and it was the only clean asset the Rockefeller Family had here.
Chen Mo threw the blood-stained data box onto the coffee table and poured himself a glass of whiskey.
"Is McLean finished?" Ava curled up on the sofa, holding a cup of hot coffee, still shaken.
"No, he's only just started having a headache."
Chen Mo took a sip of the alcohol, the ice cubes clinking against the glass.
"That laboratory is destroyed, the monster got out, and quite a few guards died. He won't be able to cover this up, but he has to."
Chen Mo opened the data box and connected the hard drive inside to the computer, "Compared to this, what we have in our hands is more interesting."
Complex chemical molecular formulas popped up on the screen.
That was the core data of the Project 734.
"He is creating biochemical soldiers." Ava looked at the shocking experimental photos, "Using illegal immigrants for experiments, if this scandal were exposed..."
"Exposed?"
Chen Mo laughed, a cold laugh.
"Ava, you still act too much like a proper businessperson. Exposing him would only ruin him, but it wouldn't make us any money."
He pointed to a line of data on the screen.
"That's the formula for the muscle enhancer. Although the current finished product turns the user into that kind of mindless monster, as long as it's improved, with reduced side effects and adjusted enhancement levels..."
Chen Mo looked at Ava, his eyes flashing with a gleam called ambition.
"McLean helped us complete the first phase of clinical trials. This stuff is weaponry, the super-soldier serum of the future. The Pentagon would be willing to empty the entire national treasury for this."
Ava was stunned.
She looked at Chen Mo, suddenly feeling that the man in front of her was even more terrifying than the monster underground.
"You want to sell it to the military?"
"No rush." Chen Mo closed the laptop, "Before that, we have to survive tomorrow first. McLean's doghouse has been raided; he's going to go crazy."
