4: Chapter 4 Sir, you have violated the regulations.
The air in the hospital room seemed to freeze. Murphy's greasy face was inches away, the dark circles under his eyes revealing undisguised greed and threats.
"I don't understand what you're talking about, Officer." Chen Mo repeated, his speech slower than before, enunciating every word heavily.
Murphy narrowed his eyes, reached out, grabbed the collar of Chen Mo's hospital gown, and tightened his grip.
"Kid, don't play dumb with me. You were the only one who made it out of that alley alive. Falcone's people won't believe your nonsense, and neither will I. One hundred thousand dollars is not a small sum."
A sense of suffocation washed over him, aggravating the injuries on his chest.
Chen Mo didn't struggle; he just watched Murphy quietly, his gaze fixed on the police badge on the fat detective's chest.
In his mind, the [Intern Police Officer] entry flickered slightly, and countless regulations flowed before his eyes like a waterfall of data.
"New York City Police Department Patrol Guide, Section 206-13."
Chen Mo suddenly spoke, his voice weak but exceptionally clear.
Murphy was stunned for a moment, and the strength in his hand loosened slightly: "What?"
"For police officers who are seriously injured while on duty, any form of internal investigation or inquiry must be conducted in the presence of a union representative or lawyer, and must be authorized by the attending physician."
Chen Mo stared into Murphy's eyes, the corners of his mouth twitching—it wasn't a smile, but a kind of mechanical mockery.
"Detective Murphy, do you have a permit issued by the doctor? Or does your current behavior represent Internal Affairs (IAB)?"
Murphy's expression instantly became extremely ugly.
He hadn't expected this newly hired rookie to be able to recite regulations that only those mad dogs in Internal Affairs knew by heart.
"Are you threatening me?" Murphy let go and instead used his index finger to poke hard at Chen Mo's chest, right at the edge of the gauze.
"Do you think reciting a few rules can save you? This is New York; rules are made by the living."
"Cough, cough..." Chen Mo coughed violently twice and raised his hand to press the call button in front of him.
"What are you doing!" Murphy growled.
"I am exercising my rights, Officer." Chen Mo leaned back against the pillow, his eyes indifferent. "I feel threatened right now, my heart rate is elevated, and I need a nurse to intervene."
"Fuck!" Murphy cursed. Just as he raised his hand, wanting to teach this ignorant rookie a lesson, the ward door was pushed open violently.
A stout black head nurse rushed in. Seeing Murphy's hand raised in mid-air, she instantly bristled.
"What are you doing! This is the intensive care unit!" The head nurse squeezed between the two like a heavy tank and pointed at the door.
"Get out! Immediately! The patient was just resuscitated; do you want to kill him?"
Murphy gritted his teeth and glared fiercely at Chen Mo, pointing his finger at him from a distance. "Fine, you know the law well, Robert. I hope you're just as knowledgeable about the law on the streets. You will regret this."
He grabbed his trench coat and slammed the door as he left.
The ward quieted down again.
The head nurse checked the readings on Chen Mo's equipment, her tone softening a bit. "Don't mind that bastard. I've seen plenty of rotten people in the police department. Rest and recover, kid."
"Thank you." Chen Mo closed his eyes.
It wasn't until the footsteps had completely disappeared that he opened his eyes again. There was no anger, no fear, only a kind of precise calculation.
People like Murphy are just hyenas that have smelled blood. Since he has set his sights on him, that money must be dealt with as soon as possible.
He summoned the system panel.

Right now, apart from the knowledge in his brain, his physical fitness was not much better than an ordinary person's.
But he couldn't sleep.
The rain outside was still falling, tapping against the glass. Chen Mo reconstructed the model of the back alley in his mind over and over again.
The position of the trash can, the angle at which the police officer's body fell, the robbers' positions, and the feeling of stuffing that canvas bag into the gap of the trash can.
That trash can was an old-fashioned tin can with a gap at the bottom that had warped due to rust.
The situation was urgent at the time; after he stuffed the bag in, he covered it with a layer of vomit-covered newspapers and a few empty wine bottles.
As long as the cleaners weren't diligent enough to clean up the trash on this rainy night, the money would still be there.

Chen Mo looked at the text jumping on his retina, and his tense nerves finally relaxed a little.
The next morning, the TV in the ward was turned on.
The news channel was scrolling through the shooting from last night.
On the screen, Chen Mo's ID photo was enlarged to the maximum, accompanied by a striking headline: "The Lone Hero of Blake Street: Chinese-American Police Officer Robert Chen Fights in a Bloody Battle."
The mayor's spokesperson spoke eloquently to the camera: "...This is the embodiment of the New York spirit. Regardless of race or background, Officer Robert has proven the heroism of the NYPD..."
Chen Mo turned off the TV, picked up an apple from the bedside table, and took a hard bite.
Political correctness.
In this country, sometimes this stuff is more useful than a bulletproof vest.
Since they have placed him in the position of a hero, Murphy won't dare to move against him openly for a short time.
This is the opportunity.
