9: Chapter 9 Evolution: Darkblade Mantis!

"Brother Chu, did you come out from the secret realm? Was contracting your beast smooth? What kind of beast is it?"

As soon as the call connected, before Chu Xiu could even speak, Zhang Daxian's excited voice came from the other end.

Zhang Daxian's soul-searching rapid-fire questions coming from the phone made Chu Xiu smile involuntarily as he replied, "Daxian, what I contracted is a Scythe Mantis."

"A Scythe Mantis? That's not bad!"

"This is an Elite-grade beast after all. Having an Elite-grade beast as your very first beast is something only a third of our class has managed."

"Moreover, the Scythe Mantis can also evolve into the Rare-grade Wood Blade Mantis. Its potential as a first beast is still pretty good."

"Brother Chu, I'll book a private room at Good Fortune later and send you the room number. We'll celebrate together tonight."

Without waiting for him to continue speaking, Zhang Daxian's loud cheers came from the other side of the phone.

"Ahem, there's no need for that. But buddy, I'm calling you today because I want to ask you, my brother, for a favor."

"I'm currently short of 50,000 yuan to buy beast resources. Do you think you could lend a bit to your brother for an emergency? I'll return it with interest in a couple of days."

Chu Xiu refused Zhang Daxian's warm invitation and stated the purpose of this call.

"Hehe, no problem. Send me your card number, and I'll have Uncle Liu transfer 100,000 to you right now."

On the other end of the phone, Zhang Daxian waved his hand grandly without any hesitation.

Even though Chu Xiu repeatedly stated that he only needed 50,000, he still forcefully gave Chu Xiu 100,000.

Seeing this, Chu Xiu could only keep this favor in his heart and then sent the card number over.

"Uncle Liu, immediately transfer 100,000 yuan to Brother Chu's account right now."

In the villa at Riverside Royal Garden, after receiving the card number sent by Chu Xiu, Zhang Daxian immediately got up, called over the housekeeper Liu Neng, and handed Chu Xiu's card number to him.

"Yes, Young Master."

Seeing this, Liu Neng received it with both hands, asked no further questions, and immediately turned to go handle it.

"Scythe Mantis... there are only two months left until the college entrance examination. It seems I have to find a way to help Brother Chu evolve the Scythe Mantis!"

Watching Liu Neng leave, Zhang Daxian returned to the sofa and said softly.

Afterwards, he took out a primary magic potion and drank it, sat cross-legged on the sofa, and began to practice the Demon-Forging Technique taught by the school.

Wisps of magic source between heaven and earth began to surge into his body.

...

"Chu Xiu, this classmate of yours is something else. Not even a minute after hanging up the phone, the money has already been transferred over."

Inside the Breeder Association, Chu Yuqing looked at the arrival notification on her phone, a look of surprise appearing on her face.

Because she was the one buying beast resources for Chu Xiu, Chu Xiu had just sent her card number to Zhang Daxian, saving the trouble of back-and-forth transfers.

Hearing this, Chu Xiu nodded and then said,

"Sis, let's buy the beast resources right now. I can't wait to let Xiaodao evolve."

"Mm, I'll go right now!"

Seeing Chu Xiu's eager look, Chu Yuqing stopped talking nonsense and turned around to start purchasing the required evolutionary resources for Chu Xiu.

Her movements were deft, and in less than ten minutes, she had fully prepared all the materials Chu Xiu needed.

"That's right, these are them."

"Sis, help me open a breeding room."

After system verification confirmed all materials were correct, Chu Xiu looked at Chu Yuqing again and said.

The Breeder Association had quite a few public breeding rooms for rent. Outsiders could rent a breeding room for money and obtain the right to use it.

The breeding room was fully equipped. Evolving the Scythe Mantis here could save Chu Xiu the trouble of purchasing extra equipment.

"You want to evolve it right now?"

"And all by yourself?!"

Hearing this, Chu Yuqing widened her eyes and looked at Chu Xiu.

The materials Chu Xiu bought to evolve the Scythe Mantis had already caused her quite a bit of doubt; now, even the operation to evolve the beast was going to be handled by Chu Xiu himself, which made her eye Chu Xiu even more suspiciously.

She had never known her younger brother had such capability.

But seeing Chu Xiu nod at her with a resolute face, she could only suppress the doubt in her heart and sighed, "Alright."

Soon, she had opened a breeding room for Chu Xiu.

"I hope my brother can succeed, otherwise these 700,000 will have gone down the drain."

Looking at the tightly closed door of the breeding room, Chu Yuqing prayed inwardly before turning to leave.

Inside the breeding room, Chu Xiu summoned the Scythe Mantis and threw a pile of shadow grass to it.

"Xiaodao, eat all of this shadow grass up; it will be good for you."

Hearing Chu Xiu's words, the Scythe Mantis nodded and then began to bury its head in eating.

While the Scythe Mantis was eating the grass, Chu Xiu also used the equipment in the breeding room to grind all the venom fangs into powder, then added them into a large pot and boiled it over a fierce fire.

Soon, the original pot of clear water was boiled into a deep black color, continuously bubbling.

"It has been boiling for over ten minutes; it should be okay to turn off the fire."

Looking at the boiling pot of black water, Chu Xiu nodded slightly, then closed the valve for the fire and quietly waited for the boiling water to cool down.

After the black water inside cooled down, Chu Xiu immediately looked at the Scythe Mantis, which had finished eating the shadow grass.

"Xiaodao, go inside and soak in it."

Hearing this, the Scythe Mantis neatly and resolutely jumped into the large pot of black water.

As soon as it soaked into this pot of black water, the toxins in the water began to seep into the Scythe Mantis's body.

"Squeak squeak!"

The Scythe Mantis immediately let out a screech, its eyes revealing a look of pain.

"Hold it in. If you can't even endure this bit of pain, how are you going to improve your strength?"

Through the contract, Chu Xiu felt the pain transmitted by the Scythe Mantis, and he quickly gave a low shout.

"Squeak squeak!"

Hearing Chu Xiu's voice, the Scythe Mantis also forced itself to nod, stubbornly suppressing the urge to jump out.

Hum~~

As the toxins in the black water entered the Scythe Mantis's body, the medicinal power of the 30 stalks of shadow grass it had just swallowed completely erupted under the stimulation of these toxins.

Gradually, the Scythe Mantis's originally emerald-green carapace began to turn black.

The surrounding magic sources also began to slowly surge toward it, and a layer of dim black light began to shroud its entire body.

As time passed, this layer of black light grew denser and denser, until it completely enveloped the Scythe Mantis, making its figure no longer visible.

Seeing this scene, Chu Xiu did not panic.

He could feel that the Scythe Mantis's life aura at this moment was still vigorous and even rapidly growing stronger.

Three hours later, a sudden change occurred.

A milky-white light flashed from within the black light, changing from dim to bright, and finally pierced through the outer layer of black light, illuminating the entire breeding room.

The intense light made Chu Xiu unable to help reaching out to block his eyes.

When the light dissipated, Chu Xiu lowered his arm and looked ahead.

He saw a dark-green figure leap up from the large pot, kicking up a splash of water, and land in front of him.

At this moment, the carapace of the Scythe Mantis had changed from emerald green to dark green, barbs had grown out at its joints, the serrations on the edges of its sickle blades had disappeared, turning into smooth and flawless sharp blades, and dark purple light patterns had emerged along the edges of the blades.

"It succeeded!"

Looking at Xiaodao, whose appearance had drastically changed and whose aura had become several times stronger than before, Chu Xiu showed a joyful expression and immediately looked toward Xiaodao's attributes.
