11: Chapter 11 Ding, you have a team-up message.
Chi Anlin pondered for a moment; there had to be a reason why they were assigned to seven-person teams.
Following the spiritual energy recovery, many dimensional nodes and strange races had appeared on Blue Star, most of which were hostile toward it.
Small-scale Otherworlds sought more living space and thus wanted to invade Blue Star, while large-scale Otherworlds intended to occupy it entirely.
To defend against these races, humans began evolving various professions, such as combat classes: Body Cultivators, Qi Cultivators, Spirit Refiners, Beast Tamers, Array Masters, and Talisman Masters, as well as support classes: Physicians, Spiritual Plant Masters, Alchemists, and Artifact Refiners.
If following a seven-person coordination model, there should be six combat classes and one Physician. Such a combination would certainly be insufficient—it was only a foundation—but for the sake of fairness, this was the only way.
Ji Jiji was a warrior, and his level wasn't low either, having reached Mortal Rank Fourth Stage.
Strength like that was considered top-tier in class. If he wanted to form a team, many people would surely invite him.
However, this team formation wasn't just happening within their own class. There were roughly three thousand students participating in this military training, and they weren't just from No. 2 High School; there were students from No. 1 High, No. 3 High, and other schools as well.
The content of the assessment would likely be hunting demon beasts, right?
Chi Anlin rubbed his chin and spoke up, "I only just finished my contract, so my contracted beast is only mortal rank first stage. Aside from you, I doubt anyone else would be willing to take me along. After all, this is tied to our college entrance exam scores."
Although the Ant Queen had reached the strength of mortal rank third stage, Chi Anlin didn't plan on exposing its existence due to certain restrictions. Furthermore, the Ice Spirit Wolf was not only at mortal rank first stage but was also in its juvenile form.
His own strength had reached the level of Mortal Grade Second Stage, but generally speaking, others could only sense a Beast Tamer's approximate realm; their strength was usually demonstrated through their contracted beasts.
A Beast Tamer caught in close quarters was even worse off than a healer. However, there were cases of Body Cultivators with powerful spiritual sense acting as Beast Tamers. Chi Anlin's situation was quite special; everything he had was given to him by blood energy.
Just as Chi Anlin continued to ponder who else to find as teammates, several students wearing specialized combat suits suddenly approached from not far away.
"Are you Chi Anlin?"
Interrupted in his thoughts, Chi Anlin looked up and glanced at these people with some surprise... he didn't recognize a single one of them.
In an instant, many cliché plotlines flashed through his mind. Could there be a secret illegitimate son of his father among them? Or perhaps his mother was actually a princess of a great family who had been forcibly abducted by his weak father...
Glancing at their attire, the familiar No. 1 High School badges on their chests, and the fact that the entire group was at Mortal Rank Fourth Stage or higher, Chi Anlin took a deep breath: "I am."
Hearing this, the leading youth suddenly broke into a smile. "That's the one. It's like this: your father and my father are old family friends. Yesterday, your father gave me and my teammates a lot of benefits, which counts as our hiring fee. We happen to be short two people, and I see you haven't joined a team yet. If there are no other issues, join my team."
Holy crap!!
The surrounding students were directly dumbfounded. To think such a maneuver was possible.
They all knew about Chi Anlin's identity. While they might look down on him in their hearts, they had to admit that Chi Anlin really did have a good dad.
There wouldn't be any scene here where someone humiliated Chi Anlin just because he was weak. Everyone had some sense; with all those Dharma treasures on Chi Anlin, who would dare provoke him?
Wait? Could it be that those Dharma treasures can't be carried during military training? Chi Anlin didn't seem to have that many dangerous auras on him today.
Hearing this, Chi Anlin accepted their invitation without any hesitation.
Although his strength might not be a match for such a team, strictly speaking, these were all bodyguards his father had spent money to find. Unless his brain had been filled with water, he certainly wouldn't refuse.
And so, while completely bewildered, Ji Jiji went from being a golden thigh to a carry-on dog.
...
Through the captain's introduction, Chi Anlin gained a general understanding of his teammates. He had to say, Father Chi's way of handling things was truly reassuring.
The captain was named Xia Yan, a fire-attribute Qi Cultivator. In truth, rather than a Qi Cultivator, he was more like a cultivator from a xianxia novel who relied on spiritual power to fight. Furthermore, this captain's strength had reached mortal rank sixth stage, which made Chi Anlin feel extremely secure.
The Spirit Refiner was named Li Wen, at Mortal Rank Fourth Stage. This profession fought using spiritual sense, having a sort of long-range mage vibe. However, Spirit Refiners generally didn't choose to become Beast Tamers, as it would place a burden on their spirit and hinder their development.
The Array Master was named Wang Qiang, Mortal Rank Fourth Stage. An Array Master at this level needed a certain amount of time to construct formations, but in the later stages, this profession gained the ability to cast instantly. Overall, they were more suited for ambushes and support; they certainly couldn't match other professions in sudden combat.
The Talisman Master was a girl named Li Yue, Li Wen's younger sister. Like Li Wen, she looked quite ordinary, the type who would get lost in a crowd.
This profession was quite expensive. If one had the money and energy, the effects they could produce were even more formidable than the other professions—direct fire coverage.
The final Physician was named Chu Xinying, a moe-girl type with a petite build, fair skin, chestnut hair, and a slightly pouting face. Chi Anlin felt that if this were a novel, she would definitely be the kind of character who caused trouble for him.
The Physician's strength had reached Mortal Rank Five, and she had the nickname 'Little A'. However, Chi Anlin observed for a moment and felt this nickname was disrespectful to Chu Xinying. Looking at her figure which didn't match her height, he felt the nickname should be 'Little D'.
Coupled with being a Physician herself, Chi Anlin felt this 'milk volume' was enough to put anyone at ease.
The group members were all the approachable type. Chi Anlin felt a large part of the reason might be the temptation of money, so he quickly integrated into the group.
"Chi Anlin, I heard you're a Beast Tamer, but you suffered a serious illness when you were young, so your strength has always been limited." Xia Yan observed Chi Anlin and continued, "Have you successfully contracted a beast now? Although we'll be carrying you through the assessment, if you don't contribute any effort yourself, your final score will still be very low."
"I have made a contract, but the realm might be a bit low," Chi Anlin answered honestly.
"It's good that you've made a contract. After we collect our tents later, we can go to the beast room to fetch your beast first. I have a general understanding of this assessment; we need to occupy a good area first to serve as our camp."
"Ideally near a water source. I heard that for this military training, they haven't provided anything other than tents and the items we brought ourselves, so we have to solve the food and water situation ourselves."
"Chi Anlin, the defensive Dharma treasures on you have all been handed over, so you need to be extra careful. Although there are soldiers stationed nearby, if we encounter an emergency, they might not be able to rush over in time."
Indeed, for this military training, no Dharma treasures could be carried except for ordinary weapons and a beast taming pouch. After all, those were considered cheating.
At the thought of those defensive Dharma treasures, Chi Anlin's teeth ached slightly. He hadn't handed them over; they had been swiped by a certain shameless big shot.
