12: Chapter 12 The Queen Ant's Bloodline Call

After picking up the tent, Chi Anlin feigned a trip to the beast taming room. Once he was sure no one was around, he used his beast taming pouch to summon the Ice Spirit Wolf.

The moment he brought out the little Ice Spirit Wolf, Chi Anlin could see Little A's eyes light up.

“Wow! A doggy!” Little A ran over with pitter-patter steps, reaching out to pet Xiao Yue, but Xiao Yue dodged her directly.

Well, Xiao Yue was a bit aloof.

“A mortal rank first stage monster cub?” Xia Yan rubbed his temples. Although monster cubs were expensive, and this little wolf clearly looked high-quality, it was still just a cub. Looking at it, it probably couldn't even defeat a large wild beast that was about to advance to a Mortal Beast.

“Yeah, this is my tamed beast.” Chi Anlin sighed. If there had been time to develop, today's scene certainly wouldn't be happening.

“Can I protect this puppy? I promise I won't let it get hurt. By the way, Big Brother Chi, what's this little guy's name?” Seeing Xiao Yue dodge, Little A didn't persist in petting it. This was a tsundere puppy; she had to build a relationship first.

It had to be said that whether in his past life or this one, kittens and puppies were cute things that girls simply couldn't resist.

“His name is Er Gou.”

The Ice Spirit Wolf: “Awoo?”

Little A: “Huh?”

Chi Anlin coughed twice and corrected himself: “Actually, his name is Xiao Yue.”

“Xiao Yue? He’s so white and tender, he should be called Xiao Tian; that sounds domineering!” Ji Jiji chimed in from the side, “It’s a pity Old Chi doesn't have a third eye.”

Chi Anlin rolled his eyes at him. “Erlang Shen had a prefrontal lobotomy just to fit that celestial eye in, so he couldn't control his desires and would even beat his own nephew. I don't want to become someone like that.”

Everyone: “...”

“Alright, save the chatter for when we find a campsite. The assessment will officially begin soon,” Xia Yan added.

Hearing this, the group quickly grabbed their luggage and tents and headed toward the forest.

The plains were the assembly point, but after entering the forest, they needed to find a relatively hidden area to set up camp.

The rules for this military training were somewhat special. Not only did they need to hunt monsters and collect their crystal cores, but they could also gather medicinal herbs and so on.

These herbs and crystal cores would be stored in a defensive formation in the middle of the camp. This formation could recognize teammates, but if an outsider wanted to open it, they had to stand in a designated area for one minute.

This rule was designed to create competition between teams, and the competition here didn't mean theft, but rather defeating the members guarding the area to claim the spoils of war.

The greatest use of a Formation Master was to carve formations around the camp to add defensive measures.

To prevent 'base-raiding' while everyone was out, the examiners stipulated that the spoils in other teams' camps could only be seized at night, while the daytime was for everyone to go out and hunt.

It was worth mentioning that one could be robbed while carrying prey back home.

This led to strong teams getting higher and higher scores, while weak teams basically got nothing.

Of course, these crystal cores and herbs only accounted for part of the assessment, roughly 50%, while the rest depended on individual performance.

...

Soon, the group found a small pond. Although there was a river not far away, because too many people usually drew water there, it was easy to be attacked. Thus, a small pond like this was the best choice.

The pond wasn't deep and was crystal clear, like blue glass. Looking closely, one could see some fish and crabs swimming. If they couldn't find food, catching fish would also be a good option.

Next to the pond was a stone mountain that towered into the clouds. At the base of the mountain was a cave; after Xia Yan's investigation, it was found to be empty.

“Let's set up camp here.” Xia Yan breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, they had set out early and managed to pick a good spot.

The group quickly set up their tents, while Wang Qiang went into the cave to set up the collection formation.

The collection formation could be placed in hidden locations. If possible, they actually wanted to place it at the bottom of the pond.

“Put your personal items in the tents first. What resources did you all bring?”

There was a weight limit on carried items, so everyone brought different things.

Little A somewhat awkwardly put her trunk into her tent. Most of the items she carried were clothes and some medical supplies. Aside from those, she hadn't even brought any wilderness survival tools.

Li Yue brought a moderate amount of clothing, but her trunk was full of materials for drawing Talismans, making Chi Anlin feel the wealth of a Talisman Master once again.

Li Wen brought many pills, as well as some tools and compressed food. Wang Qiang did the same, except he had extra materials for setting up formations.

Xia Yan, on the other hand, carried many weapons. These were all ordinary weapons, such as knives, swords, bows, and so on.

Ji Jiji, well... this guy brought a lot of books, board games, and daily necessities. According to him, military training for so long would definitely be boring, and he needed these to pass the time.

Seeing Ji Jiji's performance, Chi Anlin opened his trunk with peace of mind.

“Why did you bring so many kitchen utensils?” Xia Yan's mouth twitched slightly. The people in the team had been contacted in advance, and what each person would carry had been discussed. He just didn't expect these two new guys to be so unreliable.

“To eat well.” Chi Anlin said very seriously, “There are many monsters in the other dimension; we need to cook our food properly.”

Ji Jiji nodded in deep agreement, while Xia Yan said helplessly, “Have you ever considered that this Otherworld we are in is also known as the Small Insect World?”

Small Insect World?

Chi Anlin sighed, immediately losing his appetite. Most of the monsters here were insects; edible animals would be hard to find.

“Small Insect World!” Hearing this, Little A's face turned pale. Although she was a cultivator, she was still a girl at heart and was very afraid of bugs.

“Pack up and get ready to hunt. Little A, you and Chi Anlin stay in the center of the team. If you encounter danger, crush your protective talisman immediately, and the nearby soldiers will take you away.”

In this military training, all assessed students received a protective talisman with the defensive power of the Mortal Rank Seventh Stage. Every time it was activated, a soldier would take them away. Everyone had a total of three chances to activate the talisman.

If one was attacked and didn't activate it... there would be some casualties in this military training.

Each of them went back to their own tents to prepare the tools and weapons for going out. Chi Anlin rubbed his chin thoughtfully, returned to his tent, and took out the pile of Iron Fierce Ants and the Queen Ant.

“Chirp chirp!” The Queen Ant paced around excitedly, and a piece of information was transmitted into Chi Anlin's mind.

“You mean, in this world, you feel your former bloodline, and if we get close, you can call them back?” Chi Anlin's eyes lit up. He hadn't expected that the Queen Ant had originally been captured in this area before being sold to him.

Among these ants, there should be Mortal Beasts!
