Chapter 65 I've really made something of myself
Theoretically, the jewelry already belonged to Ling Yue.
For preservation purposes, the products needed to be sent back to the warehouse for a total lockdown; only after the banquet ended would these jewels be escorted to Ling Yue's home by specialized personnel.
Both the transportation and the sealing of the warehouse required Ling Yue to arrange for someone to oversee the process. Cheng Jiao was well-versed in these matters, so Ling Yue left it entirely to her.
Ling Yue then led Zang Lanyi out of the room, preparing to head back to the venue to see if there were any other 'fish that had escaped the net'.
The exhibition had only been open for an hour and a half, yet many display cabinets already had small 'Sold' signs in their bottom right corners.
The genuine items had been sold; what was currently displayed before everyone's eyes were merely replicas.
They still looked very dazzling.
And yet, they weren't quite as dazzling.
Anyone who had seen the real thing would find the replicas ridiculously fake.
Ling Yue thought to herself, 'I've really made something of myself.'
As she continued her stroll, she bought a crown for 30 million and a light blue sapphire set worth 13.5 million.
Since the prices weren't that high, she didn't bother with the lucky draw.
But what she didn't know was that ever since she bought that pigeon-blood ruby set, her name had become the center of discussion at this exhibition.
A name never heard of in their circles, a young girl with no known background.
Those with ulterior motives had already sent people to investigate Ling Yue's identity.
The results of the investigation were laughable.
An ordinary person? How could that be!
It was absolutely fake news deliberately fabricated to hide her true identity!
The more this was the case, the more curious everyone became about Ling Yue.
Many people even took the initiative to strike up a conversation.
Ling Yue was able to handle them well enough.
As a result, she collected a large stack of business cards.
She, however, didn't hand out a single card because she hadn't prepared any at all.
For most people there, buying jewelry and attending the exhibition wasn't just about liking the items; it was about getting to know more people of equal or higher status in such an environment.
Ling Yue was different; she was purely there to spend money.
Poor things, all their flirting and networking was like throwing pearls before swine.
Dealing with one conversation after another, Ling Yue was getting a bit annoyed.
Finally finding a gap, she went to a secluded spot to seek some peace and quiet.
“The mango flavor is delicious.” Ling Yue tasted a small cake and began discussing it with Zang Lanyi.
Zang Lanyi nodded vigorously in agreement.
She was certainly having a feast today.
Perhaps because she was full, a rare smile appeared on her face.
A short while later, Cheng Jiao returned.
Just as she was about to report the situation, Ling Yue stuffed a handful of business cards into her hand. “What are these?”
“I just received them. Take them and find a place to store them when we get back.” Ling Yue scooped another spoonful of matcha cake into her mouth.
Cheng Jiao put the business cards into the large tote bag she was carrying.
“Ling... Ling Yue?” A surprised male voice rang out beside them.
The man rubbed his eyes hard.
He opened them again.
The scene before him hadn't changed.
So, it really was her?
Unlike the man standing not far away, who had gone from shocked to gradually calming down with a mocking expression, Ling Yue's lips curled up.
She was almost joyful.
She had just used a lucky draw, and because the 43.5 million she spent afterward couldn't be doubled along with it, Ling Yue had felt a tiny bit depressed.
But now, this was great.
Someone had actively come to her door to help her restock!
Lowering her gaze slightly, Ling Yue saw the pass hanging on the man's chest.
Zhongcheng Bank: Mao Wenjie.
“Miss, who is he?”
For some reason, Cheng Jiao's first impression of Mao Wenjie was extremely poor!
Ling Yue shook her head. “I don't know him.”
A cold snort erupted from Mao Wenjie's nose.
He had been harboring a grudge ever since Ling Yue caused a scene at his door.
Even after moving his whole family, he still dreamed of that suffocating scene every night!
Though he was still alive, his soul was wounded!
[resentment value: 77%]
Ling Yue: Holy crap!
Talk about a long-tail effect; Mao Wenjie's resentment toward her was second to none.
Ling Yue now had a thought: she should drag Supervisor Liao Yifeng, Gu Shaonan, Zhou Ze, and the others out for another beating...
Mao Wenjie's sinister gaze glared fiercely at Ling Yue. He approached step by step, pointing a finger at her. “Dressed so gaudily... what, have you climbed up some high branch?"
“Heh, you really are... Ah!”
With one look from Ling Yue, Zang Lanyi moved out with a cold face.
“Filthy mouth!” She stepped forward in two strides, grabbed Mao Wenjie's wrist, and twisted hard!
Crack!
A crisp sound!
“AAAAAH!” It hurt so much; Mao Wenjie clutched his right hand with his left, tears nearly falling.
Damn woman, what a grip!
Fortunately, the bone wasn't broken, but why did it hurt so much!
This spot was very remote, and almost no one came by.
Mao Wenjie also knew his surroundings and didn't dare to howl too loudly.
He could only glare at Ling Yue with a vicious gaze, as if he wanted to stare her to death.
Slap!
Zang Lanyi slapped him again. “Keep staring, and I'll gouge your dog eyes out!”
Mao Wenjie's head was spinning.
Ling Yue was feeling excited.
A-Lan is too fierce!
Having such a bodyguard protecting her closely gave her a great sense of security!
“I'm going to sue you, I'm definitely going to sue you! If I don't make you lose everything, my name isn't Mao!” Mao Wenjie held his head with both hands.
Zang Lanyi raised her hand again.
Mao Wenjie's eyes widened, and he backed away two steps in fear.
“Mao Wenjie, what are you doing here?” Manager Li rushed over after receiving a WeChat message from Cheng Jiao.
Chen Yuanyuan came along with him.
Chen Yuanyuan stared at Mao Wenjie for a while, then looked at Ling Yue with a bewildered 'what's going on' expression.
Seeing his companion arrive, Mao Wenjie puffed out his chest and, thinking he had plenty of backing, pointed at Ling Yue and said, “Manager Li, I caught a woman who snuck into the exhibition. Hurry and tell security to arrest her!”
He looked triumphant.
Heaven knows how much he wanted revenge!
Manager Li's blood was boiling—out of anger at Mao Wenjie, of course. He roared, “Shut up!”
This was laughable.
What was his status? This wasn't even his home turf, and he wanted to arrest someone?
If he dared to cause trouble, the security guards would end up arresting him instead!
Cheng Jiao looked displeased and said to Manager Li, “Your bank's employee is being disrespectful to a client. Is this how Zhongcheng treats Gold Card customers? You certainly change your tune quickly!”
“Our apologies, Ms. Ling, we definitely didn't mean that! Is there some misunderstanding here?” Manager Li was trembling and gave Mao Wenjie a fierce glare.
Mao Wenjie's IQ was questionable, or perhaps he just refused to admit it. At this moment, he still firmly believed one thing:
“Manager Li, don't be fooled by this woman. How could she possibly have a Gold Card? You're sucking up to the wrong person!” Speaking of which, he seemed to have forgotten what a Gold Card was from his induction training.
In any case, seeing Ling Yue receive preferential treatment made him unhappy!
And this Manager Li was too fawning; it was simply unbearable to watch!
“Mao Wenjie, what are you saying?” Chen Yuanyuan stepped forward and yanked hard on Mao Wenjie's sleeve. “Hurry up and apologize to Ms. Ling!”
“Yuanyuan, she's just an ordinary wage slave. She's dressed like this just to fool you guys; it's probably all high-end fakes. You... mmm mmm...”
Chen Yuanyuan's hand was faster than her brain as she covered Mao Wenjie's mouth.
Her face pale, she bowed to Ling Yue in apology. “I'm sorry, Ms. Ling, truly very sorry! He... he... he probably just hit his head and is talking nonsense.”
Mao Wenjie: ???!!!
Manager Li wiped his sweat and chimed in, “We will definitely train our staff properly when we get back. I guarantee such a thing will never happen again!”
