273: Don't be reckless

After watching the villagers depart, Hu Lai emerged from behind a decaying tree.

Elder Cao and the others were killed by him.

Today, he had led the selected Disaster victims here, originally intending to find an excuse to return, but unexpectedly encountered the Student Union being questioned by such a group of people.

He felt that the Student Union members were too kind-hearted.

Since that was the case, he might as well be the bad guy.

Anyway, he had already done enough bad deeds for the Prefect of Yunhai.

He would kill these 'evil people,' put all the grain into a Storage Pouch, and then, after returning to the Student Union, place it in the Student Union's storeroom.

As for those villagers without grain...

They couldn't always rush to the front when good things happened, and then hide when there were responsibilities to bear, could they?

If any of these villagers had stood up and said even a single word when the Student Union was being challenged, he would have chosen to leave the grain.

There was no need to pity such parasites, who only knew how to demand benefits and showed no gratitude!

Hu Lai silently departed.

After reaching an absolutely secluded spot, he crushed a sound transmission jade slip.

A low voice came from within it.

"What is it?"

"Sir, the matter here has been settled by me!"

Hu Lai feigned excitement and said, "I led all the Disaster victims over there. The Student Union people are truly fools; they actually took it upon themselves to care for these Disaster victims' food and drink.

As a result, after only a little more than a day, the Student Union's stored grain couldn't hold out.

They then became unwilling to distribute grain.

Consequently, these Disaster victims, accustomed to freeloading, directly rushed to the Student Union's storeroom and looted it!

Then, after there was no grain, the original villagers also became unhappy.

They demanded rent money from the Student Union members, but the Student Union couldn't produce it, so what happened? Just now, the Student Union had already fled the village.

I think, it won't be long before the Student Union destroys itself!"

"Good!"

The voice on the other end of the sound transmission jade slip became much more invigorated, "Hu Lai, you have rendered meritorious service this time! Let those high and mighty Canglan Guard see that we are not useless either!

It's not that without them, nothing can be accomplished!

Hu Lai, you have full authority to handle the Student Union's affairs. I will prepare a team of people for you; if you need them, you can directly call them over for support!

For everything else, you can act on your own discretion."

"Thank you, Sir! Hu Lai will certainly not fail your trust! If I cannot handle the Student Union's affairs well, Hu Lai will bring his head to you!"

Hu Lai's eyes lit up.

"Good! You boy, you have a bright future!"

After saying this, the energy of the sound transmission jade slip dissipated.

Hu Lai raised a smile.

"I have full authority?! Excellent! When asked, it's 'Greatly develop the Student Union!'"

Hu Lai sped towards the direction where the main Student Union force was migrating... The Student Union's newly established stronghold was not far from the village where Zheng Jishi was located.

However, leading such a large group of Disaster victims, their progress was very slow.

Fortunately, they had planned ahead, and some Vicious Beasts and uncontrollable factors along the way had already been cleared.

The journey was quite smooth.

Night gradually fell.

A member walked up to Zheng Jishi and asked, "Dr. Zheng, how long have we been walking, and how much longer until we arrive?"

Zheng Jishi looked at the sun.

"We've been walking for about three hours; I estimate we'll arrive in half an hour."

Upon hearing this, the member's face showed excitement.

He turned to the people behind him and said, "We're almost there, less than an hour away! Everyone, push a little harder; good days are waiting for us ahead!"

When the Disaster victims heard this, their initial thoughts of giving up and slacking off immediately vanished.

They gritted their teeth.

They had walked so long, and with less than an hour left, good days were within reach; they had to persevere!

As everyone walked, they also kept track of the time.

After only half an hour, some Disaster victims saw a light ahead and immediately became excited.

"Look! There's a light over there! It must be the adults from the Student Union coming to meet us!"

"Heavens, we've arrived!"

"Wasn't it an hour? We walked so fast?"

The Student Union member smiled and said, "See? As long as everyone puts their heart into something, gritting their teeth and working hard, there will usually be a good outcome.

Based on everyone's physical strength and previous speed, we estimated it would take almost an hour.

But everyone arrived in half an hour.

This is the power of your own heart, your own potential.

So, at any time, learn to persevere, grit your teeth and don't give up; there are always more solutions than problems!

I propose that everyone can applaud themselves. After we arrive, I will ask Dr. Zheng and the President to apply for an extra meal for everyone!"

After speaking, he was the first to applaud, followed by the other Student Union members and those 'students' who had joined the association.

The Disaster victims were ordinary commoners, usually busy with making a living.

They rarely had such an experience, being specifically praised like this.

If these people hadn't encountered a famine year, and if things were as usual, most of them would be honest and simple.

Now, seeing everyone from the Student Union applauding, the Disaster victims looked at each other, their faces shy in the moonlight.

Clap—clap—clap—

Scattered applause began, then grew enthusiastic.

The shyness on everyone's faces disappeared, replaced by broad smiles of relief.

One or two people praising themselves might feel a bit shy, but doing it together felt great.

The short remaining distance became joyful.

Zheng Jishi would have the members actively liven up the atmosphere, paving the way for their management upon entering the 'university.'

Fifteen minutes later, the Disaster victims' eyes widened, deeply shocked by the buildings before them.

Behind the fence, rows of distinctive houses were neatly arranged.

The tightly laid cobblestone path on the street appeared sturdy and very stylish.

The street was clean, and at the main entrance, there was a pavilion. Someone sitting in the pavilion saw them and walked out.

Looking further inside, there was also a three-story building, its silhouette outlined by light in the deep night, splendid and beautiful.

Most importantly, they actually saw spring water gushing out in a large open space behind the entrance, then falling into a pond!

Water! There was water here!

This was the most astonishing sight during a severe drought and famine year.

Jiang Ning was not surprised by this; how could underground water dry up? If ten meters wasn't enough, dig fifty meters... there would always be water.

Some Disaster victims stared, lost in thought.

"My goodness! Is this really still a village? To me, if it weren't for too few people, it's even better than a county town!"
