Chapter 29: The Doomsday Fortress Delivered and Accepted, an Impregnable Underground City
Only three days left.
Lin Xingwan hung up the phone with Qian Duoduo and took a deep breath of the cool early morning air.
She felt no panic; instead, she experienced a sense of relief, as if a stone that had been hanging over her head had finally fallen.
The extreme heat disaster was finally coming.
She gripped the highest-access chip emitting a faint blue glow in her hand.
She turned around and looked at the three-meter-high explosion-proof alloy gate that was slowly sliding open.
"Boss Huo, take me on a tour of my 'royal palace'."
Lin Xingwan tilted her chin toward Huo Yuan.
Huo Yuan turned off the engine, stepped out of the car, walked over to her, and made a "please" gesture.
"As you wish."
The two walked into The Fortress side by side.
The gate slammed shut behind them, with a few dull mechanical clicks signaling it was locked, completely sealing off everything from the outside world.
The scene before Lin Xingwan opened up instantly.
This was no mere basement; it was a miniature Underground City filled with a futuristic, sci-fi aesthetic!
Before her eyes was an extremely spacious central control hall with a ceiling height of five meters.
The walls were made entirely of silver-grey explosion-proof titanium alloy, and the eye-protecting LED lights overhead shone with a soft glow, simulating the most comfortable natural light.
In the center of the hall, a huge holographic projection screen floated, displaying real-time data from both inside and outside The Fortress.
"There are ten levels underground in total."
Huo Yuan walked in front, acting as a highly professional guide.
"Level minus one is the buffer zone and the fully automatic fire control room. The surrounding 30,000-volt high-voltage electric fence and the hidden Gatling machine gun turrets are all controlled here by the AI system."
He pointed to the dense cluster of red dots on the screen.
"As long as any unauthorized creature approaches within five hundred meters, the system will automatically lock on and blast it to smithereens."
Lin Xingwan nodded with satisfaction; this was what true security felt like.
The two boarded a transparent bulletproof elevator and continued downward.
"Level minus two is the armed camp and internal training ground for the Sky Wolf Squad."
Huo Yuan paused and looked at Lin Xingwan with a complex expression.
"The 'heavy cargo' you brought from the pier last night has already been sealed in the ammunition depot there."
That batch of weaponry, which had vanished into thin air and then reappeared, had become an unspoken miracle within the Sky Wolf Squad.
The elevator continued to descend.
Levels minus three to minus five were the massive supply storage areas.
Although they were still somewhat empty, everything was well-organized.
"Leave this to me."
Lin Xingwan stepped out of the elevator, looked at the empty warehouse, and the corners of her mouth curled up.
Today, she would show these men who lived on the edge of a knife what true 'money power' really meant.
With a thought, she acted.
"Swish! Swish! Swish!"
It was like magic.
Hundreds upon hundreds of tons of rice, flour, and cooking oil instantly filled the grain storage on level minus three.
Immediately after, in the cold storage on level minus four, mountains of rock-hard frozen pork, beef, and mutton appeared out of thin air.
The daily necessities section on level minus five was stuffed to the brim with millions of packs of toilet paper and toiletries.
Lu Ting, who was following behind, pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses, and the tablet in his hand hit the floor with a "clatter."
He swallowed, his voice trembling.
"Bo... Boss, am I seeing things?"
"Is Miss Lin some kind of deity descended to earth with this ability to conjure things out of thin air?"
Although Huo Yuan had been mentally prepared, seeing this shocking scene with his own eyes still made his heart race uncontrollably.
This woman was simply a mobile, bottomless treasure vault.
He walked over, picked up Lu Ting's tablet, and warned him in a low voice.
"Keep your mouth shut. If anyone within the Sky Wolf Squad dares to leak a single word of what you saw today, I will personally skin them alive."
Lu Ting nodded frantically like a chicken pecking at rice.
With this massive amount of supplies to anchor them, the men of the Sky Wolf Squad were completely devoted to Lin Xingwan.
In The Apocalypse, whoever had food and guns was the boss! No, the ancestor!
The elevator continued downward.
Level minus six was the medical area.
The miracle doctor, Elder Zhong, and his granddaughter, Zhong Ling, had already been settled here and were marveling at the top-tier fully automatic surgical pods.
Level minus seven was the ecological planting area.
Grandma Sun was there with a few newly recruited agricultural experts, tinkering with seeds in the hydroponic cultivation troughs.
Levels minus eight and minus nine were the water circulation and energy centers.
Solar power, geothermal energy, and tens of thousands of tons of anthracite formed a perfect closed loop, ensuring The Fortress would never run out of power for a hundred years.
Finally, the elevator stopped at the lowest level, level minus ten.
"Ding—"
The elevator doors opened.
This was Lin Xingwan's private territory.
The main living area.
Unlike the cold metallic feel outside, this place was decorated in an extremely luxurious and cozy manner.
Underfoot lay thick Persian rugs, famous paintings hung on the walls, and there was even a small temperature-controlled wine cellar in the corner.
The central air conditioning blew a 26-degree breeze, and the air purifier brought in fresh oxygen with the scent of a forest.
"I reinforced these outer walls with half-a-meter-thick radiation-proof lead plates and seismic steel bars."
Huo Yuan leaned against the doorframe of the master bedroom, watching Lin Xingwan.
"Even if there's a magnitude 12 earthquake outside, or if it takes a direct hit from a nuclear bomb, not even a cup will break in here."
"Lin Xingwan, I have over-delivered on your requirements."
Lin Xingwan walked to the wine cellar and casually took out a bottle of Romanée-Conti with an excellent vintage.
She pulled the cork and poured two glasses.
She handed one to Huo Yuan, and the glasses clinked together with a crisp "ding."
"Well done."
She took a sip of red wine, her eyes lazy and charming.
"From today on, Star Fortress is officially in lockdown."
"You and your Sky Wolf Squad will be the first armed foundation here."
"Follow me, and as long as you do not betray me, I guarantee that you will live more comfortably in The Apocalypse than the emperors of the past."
Huo Yuan tilted his head back and downed the red wine in his glass.
His Adam's apple bobbed with a wild sexiness.
He looked at Lin Xingwan, his deep eyes burning with a fiery light.
"My life is already yours; why talk of betrayal?"
He said in a low voice, his tone revealing a streak of ruthlessness and extreme obsession.
The inspection complete, Huo Yuan led his men back to the camp area.
It became completely quiet inside The Fortress.
Lin Xingwan took a comfortable hot shower and changed into silk pajamas.
She sprawled out in a star shape and threw herself heavily onto the soft three-meter-wide bed in the master bedroom.
She couldn't help but let out a sigh of contentment.
This was the life.
She turned her head and looked at the special countdown clock on the wall.
The bright red numbers were jumping.
Only 72 hours remained until the outbreak of the disaster.
Lin Xingwan picked up the remote control and casually turned on the oversized LCD TV mounted on the wall.
She had originally just wanted some noise for background sound.
But as soon as the TV screen lit up, a breaking news bulletin instantly grabbed her attention.
On the screen.
Her scumbag father, Chairman Lin Jianguo, who should have been in a suit and tie, was now in rags, his hair a bird's nest.
He was being held down firmly in front of the bankruptcy seal of the Lin Group.
Dozens of suppliers and shareholders holding banners were frantically throwing rotten eggs and vegetable leaves at him.
"Pay us back! Lin Jianguo, you bloodsucker, return our hard-earned money!"
"The Lin Group has gone bankrupt. Chairman Lin Jianguo is suspected of fraud and asset transfer and has been restricted from high-level consumption!"
The news anchor's voice was crisp and clear, but to Lin Jianguo, it sounded like a death curse.
Lin Jianguo was beaten until his head was bleeding.
He looked desperately into the camera and suddenly shouted with heart-wrenching intensity.
"Wanwan! I am your own father!"
"You have 12 billion in your hands! You cannot just watch me die!"
"You caused me to end up like this; aren't you afraid of retribution?!"
Lin Xingwan watched the twisted old face of her scumbag father on TV.
She picked up a piece of watermelon she had just taken from her space, still containing ice crystals, and took a huge bite.
The cold, sweet juice exploded in her mouth.
"Retribution?"
Lin Xingwan sneered and pulled out a wet wipe to clean her hands.
She picked up her phone and dialed the extension for the hacker, Qian Duoduo.
"Boss, what are your instructions?"
Qian Duoduo was smacking his lips on the other end of the line, probably eating a late-night snack as well.
"Help me find out where Lin Jianguo and his family are hiding now."
Lin Xingwan stared at the screen, a flash of cruel satisfaction passing through her eyes.
"The end of the world is almost here."
"As a filial daughter, I really must send them a big gift to send them on their way."
