71: Chapter 69 Becoming the Flame Emperor from a Son-in-Law

Soon, the time came to the next day.

The Assessment District of Shrek Academy was located in the north-central part of the Martial Soul Department, adjacent to the Spirit Combat Zone.

Compared to the Spirit Combat Zone, the area of the Assessment District was much larger.

For the students of the Shrek Academy Outer Courtyard, this was the best place for outstanding students to showcase themselves, but it was also Hell for low-cultivation students.

Every year, a large number of students would be eliminated because of the assessment.

The Assessment District was oval-shaped, not like a fenced stadium like the Spirit Combat Zone, but rather an open space.

The outer perimeter was a circle of low walls, and the interior was divided into various areas by partitions, which could be disassembled at any time to change the size of the areas.

The annual New Student Assessment was the time when the Assessment District was divided the most.

This was not only because of the large number of new students, but also because their destructive power and attack range were limited, so they did not need a very large area to unleash their abilities.

The entire Assessment District was about twenty thousand square meters, and by this time it had been divided into fifty areas, each about four hundred square meters, forming a square with a side length of twenty meters, which was already enough for the new students who generally only had one or two spirit rings of cultivation.

Today was the first day of the assessment, and in order to let the new students adapt, each group was only scheduled for one battle today.

During this period, a total of fifty teachers were dispatched to the site to conduct assessment registration in the fifty areas respectively.

And this year, because of Teacher Zhou Yi's cautionary tale, not only were there no students in Freshman Class 1 expelled without cause.

Compared with previous years, the other classes basically did not experience any mid-term student expulsions.

So this year, a total of more than three hundred groups of students, nearly one thousand people, finally participated in the New Student Assessment.

Among these more than three hundred groups, only one hundred and fifty groups would be able to stay in the end, officially becoming first-year students to continue their studies.

Moreover, in the future when they reached the second and third grades, a portion of students would be eliminated every year.

Studying at Shrek Academy, the competition was undoubtedly fierce and cruel, and only Shrek, which siphoned geniuses from the entire continent, dared to screen layer by layer like this.

The Assessment District was divided into fifty areas for the New Student Assessment, which meant that six to seven groups of students were assigned to participate in each area.

Not only today, but tomorrow they would also compete in this area until they had all met each other before regrouping, and eventually every team had to complete ten matches.

Lin Yan's trio was assigned to District 13, and the other groups of students competing here had also arrived.

And any team competing in District 13, the moment they saw Lin Yan walk in, wore expressions of utter despair.

"Oh my goodness, it's over!"

"Lin Yan? Is that the Lin Yan who defeated Teacher Zhou Yi as soon as he entered school?"

"Oh! Sea God above, you stupid teacher, why did you assign me to this group!!"

...

Just as these students were wailing, the New Student Assessment officially began.

"All new students, please note, enter the Assessment District immediately to prepare for the New Student Assessment. There are ten minutes left for admission, and overtime will be regarded as abstaining from this assessment."

The teacher in charge of the assessment in Lin Yan's area was a young woman who looked less than thirty years old. Her face was ice-cold, which contrasted sharply with her somewhat rule-breaking figure, maximizing the sense of contrast.

"There are a total of seven groups of students participating in the assessment on our side. Since everyone is here, let's begin."

"In addition, disabling or injuring opponents is not allowed during the assessment, otherwise you will be directly deprived of your assessment qualifications."

The icy tone made these new students nod obediently upon hearing it.

"First round, first match of the assessment."

"Freshman Class 1: Lin Yan, Wang Donger, Xiao Xiao."

"Freshman Class 7: Wei Zongqi, Dong Yu, Wu Gang."

When Lin Yan and the others entered the arena, following the order of that teacher.

The match begins!

Then... there was no then.

The opponents surrendered directly.

...

Knowing they were bound to lose, during the round-robin tournament which was a critical period determining whether they could stay in Shrek, no team was willing to waste Soul Power or expose their Spirit abilities to fight a doomed battle.

Amidst these continuous surrenders, Lin Yan and the others "finished fighting" the entire round-robin tournament.

However, the two girls Wang Donger and Xiao Xiao, who had won effortlessly at this moment, besides being happy, inevitably harbored a trace of worry.

If it continued like this afterwards, then... would they still have a chance to perform?!

However, their worry did not last long.

After a day of rest, the Top 64 knockout tournament began.

Entering the knockout stage, without the lingering fear of being expelled, these geniuses from across the continent finally dared to activate their Spirits against Lin Yan and the others!

Especially when they discovered that Lin Yan did not end the battle with overwhelming force right at the start, but instead held one person back as if taking a stroll and left the stage to his teammates, the enthusiasm of these geniuses to accept the challenge suddenly became even higher.

And after actually fighting, everyone who encountered Lin Yan's team deeply understood what it meant—fireflies seeing the bright moon, mayflies looking up at the azure sky!

Throughout the matches so far, let alone spirit rings, they hadn't even seen Lin Yan's Spirit!

Every time it seemed about right, a sweep of his vast Soul Power would directly clear the field!

...

As time passed, the assessment quickly reached the Top 16 into Top 8 stage of the knockout tournament.

This time, after the draw ended, Lin Yan looked at their opponents, a trace of an inexplicable smile appearing on his face.

Freshman Class 9, Nanmen Yun'er, Wu Feng... and Ning Tian.

These were their opponents this time, but that wasn't the point.

The point was, looking at Ning Tian opposite him, who had sunshine-like platinum short hair, a pair of large aqua-blue eyes, and a noble and reserved temperament, Lin Yan's thoughts couldn't help drifting back to the not-so-distant past.

Once upon a time, he really had the intention of going to the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Sect to be a matrilocal son-in-law.

Unfortunately, it was no longer ten thousand years ago, and the current Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Sect had long since slipped out of the Top 0 ranks in terms of strength.

Otherwise, the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Sect would really be more suitable for him than Shrek.

If he had really gone to the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Sect back then, then his future autobiography would most likely have been renamed— Transmigration Douluo: Starting as a Matrilocal Son-in-Law to Become the Flame Emperor!》

However, despite feeling some emotion, the match had to continue.

Then there were no accidents.

By the time Lin Yan cleared the field, Wu Feng, who had been led around by him and was full of dissatisfaction, also experienced the ultimate shock.

And Ning Tian on the side, after being sent down without any ability to resist, blankly gazed at Lin Yan's sharp-featured profile.

Remembering her own old father's earnest teachings, her heart instantly stirred with some different thoughts.

...

Just as Lin Yan's side encountered Ning Tian and the others, Huo Yuhao, Little Fatty, and Skinny on the other side also stumbled their way into the top sixteen.

And this time, their opponents were Xie Huanyue, Luo Tianlong, and Luo Tianba of Freshman Class 2.

Facing a combination of one Spirit Elder and two Spirit Grandmasters, on the surface, Huo Yuhao and the others had no chance of winning.

In reality, having lost their two teammates Wang Donger and Xiao Xiao, without the Haodong Power and without the Spirit Fusion ability, the actual combat situation was indeed the case.

However, just as Huo Yuhao and the others were about to be defeated.

Huo Yuhao, whose face was full of unwillingness, had his eyes slightly bloodshot. Struggling for a moment in his heart, he shouted in a deep voice to the soundly sleeping Tianmeng Iceworm within his Spirit Sea: "Brother Tianmeng! Help me!"

The next moment, Huo Yuhao's Spirit Eyes, which originally glowed with a purple hue, were instantly stained with a translucent white.

Following that, a spiritual shock far exceeding his Realm suddenly blasted from the Spirit Eyes towards the opposite Spirit Elder Xie Huanyue!

"Ah—!"

In an instant, accompanied by a miserable scream, Xie Huanyue's body, which looked like a huge meatball after his Spirit avatar activation, crashed heavily to the ground!
