109: Construction Project!

"In ancient mythology, there is a divine tree that connects heaven and earth, named Jianmu; this is the origin of the Jianmu Project's name.

We hope that you will not just simply become timber, but that you will be able to grow like the Jianmu and support the heavens and earth of Great Qin!"

On the snowy ground, a bald man stood in mid-air, his arms crossed over his chest.

His muscles were knotted, stretching his loose training uniform to its limit.

Yet his eyes did not look like those of a brute; they were deep and calm...

"I am your chief instructor, Instructor Xie Jun; however, I will not teach you anything, nor will I conduct any training for you!"

Instructor Xie Jun paused, then continued: "I have only one duty: assessment! Constant assessment!

You are all Geniuses from all over Great Qin, and your greatest opponent should be yourselves!

If your progress is great enough, even if you are of the lowest Realm and have the worst combat strength in the base, you will not be eliminated!

Conversely, even if you are in the Inner Breath Realm, if your strength remains stagnant... that means you are not a Genius, you do not deserve the best cultivation, and you will likewise be eliminated!"

What if one is in the Divine Power Realm? Many people subconsciously had this thought, sneaking glances at Chu Yuan.

Instructor Xie Jun naturally saw this, but acted as if he saw nothing and continued:

"The base will provide basic resources, but more precious resources require you to fight for them yourselves!

Cultivating to break through a Realm grants Cultivation points;

Going to that snowy mountain to slay exotic beasts grants slaughter points;

Ten days later, the leaderboard will open, and the top one hundred on the leaderboard will receive ranking points!

Everything you can think of can be exchanged with points!

Medicinal Pills, weapons, battle armor, Martial Skills, Cultivation Techniques... all can be exchanged with points!

Whether you become a Jianmu and support the heavens and earth, or degenerate into a withered branch to be trampled upon, it all depends on your own choices!"

"The Jianmu doesn't support the heavens and earth; it only supports the atmosphere..."

Hearing the laughter in the crowd, Instructor Xie Jun looked at the person who interjected with a dark face: "Do you think you're very humorous?"

"Report, Instructor, I'm only a little bit humorous..." The male student was a bit flustered, but the surrounding laughter seemed to give him courage, and he still answered with 'high emotional intelligence.'

"What is your name?"

"Report, Instructor, my name is Wang Jiahao!"

"Jiahao, is it?" Instructor Xie Jun smiled: "Don't be afraid. Although you make me very unhappy, I won't punish you, nor will I eliminate you;

we need true powerhouses, not machines that lack spirit and obey rigidly."

Wang Jiahao breathed a sigh of relief, then heard Instructor Xie Jun sneer: "But I think a fool like you, who likes to be a smart aleck, will definitely be among the first to be eliminated!"

He muttered unconvinced: "Instructor, that's a personal attack!"

"That's right, so what?"

"I..."

"Do not doubt the judgment of a Seventh Realm Martial Artist..." Instructor Xie Jun said meaningfully;

then he stopped paying attention to the conflicted male student and continued: "Each of you can initially choose one Cultivation Technique and three Martial Skills, to replace the Quenching Origin Technique;

of course, those who have already cultivated other Cultivation Techniques do not need to choose, and can choose an extra Martial Skill instead!"

"Then you are free. Seven days later, the first assessment will be held!

Since it is the first assessment, the standard will be relatively loose: anyone who has not mastered the new Cultivation Technique will be eliminated!"

"Report, Instructor!"

"Speak."

"After choosing the Cultivation Technique, will there be teachers to provide guidance?"

"No." Instructor Xie Jun shook his head: "You need to comprehend it yourselves! If you cannot comprehend it... as I said before, then you are not a Martial Dao Genius, and you do not deserve the best cultivation!"

"..." Now everyone could see that there seemed to be no reasoning to be had in the training base;

the instructor was only responsible for setting a goal. If you could reach it, you could continue to stay here; if you couldn't, you were not a true Genius and did not deserve to continue staying here...

But just the Energy Gathering Array in the rooms already made many people reluctant to leave, and that was just the most basic facility; besides that, who knew how many more precious Martial Dao resources there were!

A sense of urgency spread through the crowd...

"Of course, some people might be strong in other aspects, but have poor Comprehension Ability; I am not leaving you without any chance... you can use points to exchange for opportunities to get guidance!"

Everyone was speechless again, vaguely understanding Instructor Xie Jun's intention;

not breaking through the Realm means no points, and failing to Cultivate the new Cultivation Technique means you can't break through the Realm; it's just like 'needing work experience to find a job, but not being able to find a job without work experience';

the leaderboard is not open, so there are no points either, and even if it opens, one might not be able to enter the top one hundred... so it seems there is only one choice left for them?

That is, to go to the snowy mountain to kill exotic beasts to earn slaughter points; it really is 'entirely voluntary'...

"That's all, dismissed; go back and choose your Cultivation Technique and Martial Skills on your terminals, someone will send them to you, and you must finish choosing before today is over." Instructor Xie Jun shifted his gaze to Chu Yuan: "Chu Yuan, come with me for a moment."

...

"Instructor."

"There is one thing... go easy on the exotic beasts in the snowy mountain; it wasn't easy for us to transport so many of them here..." Instructor Xie Jun said tactfully.

"..."

"Actually, with your current strength, there is absolutely no need for you to participate in this training; even if you were sent directly to the Outer Heaven Battlefield, you would be sufficient to serve as a mid-level officer in any legion."

Chu Yuan's heart stirred, and he asked: "Instructor, will the second half of the training be conducted on the Outer Heaven Battlefield?"

Instructor Xie Jun nodded: "That's right, this training will last for two months; the first month is to let you consolidate your foundation and familiarize yourselves with low-intensity combat...

the second month will be a trial conducted on the Outer Heaven Battlefield, and finally, rewards will be distributed according to the amount of military merit;

I can reveal a little bit to you in advance: the one with the most military merit, in addition to obtaining a real position within the legion... will receive a reward not inferior to the Martial God Scroll you obtained in the last Secret Realm trial!"

"I understand." Chu Yuan did not ask if he could go find Old Zhang after arriving at the Outer Heaven Battlefield; if he had enough military merit, naturally everything would be easy to talk about. But asking for this and that before doing anything would only make people annoyed.

"Go ahead, don't forget to choose your Martial Skills."

"Mm."

Chu Yuan left Instructor Xie Jun's office; he didn't need any Cultivation Technique, but he did need to choose Martial Skills, as he had long felt that his methods were too monotonous...

Although he had just mastered the Golden Rainbow Piercing the Sun, and the Niyuan Qianshen Technique he learned when he went to find Jiang Fei, he was not yet particularly proficient in these two Spells. It could be said that one shouldn't bite off more than one can chew, but if one can't chew it, one should just chew slowly...
