68: The Yellow Bird's Bullet

Lin Feng's earth-shattering roar was in pure English!

This sound, like a thunderclap, exploded over the chaotic, killing-filled village!

The indigenous warriors who had already lunged in front of him, raising their stone axes and wooden clubs high, suddenly froze!

They didn't understand.

They didn't understand a single word!

But the desperate madness and the determination to go down fighting revealed in that voice were like a bucket of ice water poured over their heads, which were heated by the smell of blood!

This was a language they had never heard, carrying a magic that made them instinctively feel uneasy!

Even the Old Priest not far away, leaning on his bone staff with a look of victory in his grasp, saw the wrinkles on his face instantly twist into a knot.

He didn't understand either, but from this sound, he smelled an extremely ominous scent!

A strong premonition that the prey was about to escape his control made his heart jump!

Next to the totem pole, Juan and Carlos, whose ropes had just been cut, were even more dazed and bewildered.

Who is Brother Feng talking to? Are there other people around besides these savages?

Only Lin Feng himself knew that the sentence he had just shouted was the final gamble he had placed his life on!

He was betting that the mastermind, who had been haunting them since they entered the Rainforest, was nearby!

He was betting that he was important enough! Important enough for that high-and-mighty manipulator to be willing to break the long-standing "never intervene" rule to save him!

He was betting even more!

At this moment, time was stretched incredibly long.

The ferocity on the faces of those indigenous warriors and the redness in their eyes were in a fierce struggle with that sudden uncertainty.

But this hesitation lasted for less than a second!

"Roar!"

The most primitive desire to kill once again overwhelmed everything!

A more violent attack tore through the air, with the determination to completely tear Lin Feng apart, and smashed down fiercely once more!

Lin Feng had already closed his eyes.

He had done everything he could.

The rest was up to fate.

Did he lose the bet... In the end, he was still going to die here... Just as the blades of those stone axes were about to touch his scalp!

"Whiz—!!"

A whistle so sharp it was extreme, completely different from the sound of blow darts or spears piercing the air, suddenly tore through the night from the depths of the dark jungle in the distance!

That sound was sharp and keen, like the whistle of the Grim Reaper!

Then!

Before anyone could react!

"Puff!!"

A muffled sound!

The indigenous warrior charging at the very front, the most burly one whose stone axe was about to split Lin Feng's head open—his head... without warning, exploded!

Like a balloon filled with water being poked hard by an invisible steel needle!

A mixture of red blood and white brain matter exploded, splashing all over the faces of his companions!

That burly body, as if slapped hard by an invisible giant hand, lost all strength and flew backward, hitting the ground heavily, twitching twice, and then never moving again.

Silence.

Deathly silence.

The noisy village, at this moment, seemed to have its mute button pressed.

Everyone's movements froze.

Everyone was completely awestruck by this bloody, eerie scene that was entirely beyond their cognition!

The indigenous people splashed with the red and white mixture even forgot to wipe it off, just standing there blankly, their bodies trembling uncontrollably.

What was that?

What just happened?

Was it the punishment of the Mountain God? Or the wrath of the Thunder God?

The color instantly drained from the Old Priest's face. He turned his head in horror, looking in the direction where the bullet came from, toward that deep jungle he thought he had completely controlled!

Fear appeared on the High Priest's face for the first time!

However, this was only the beginning!

Before they could recover from this extreme shock!

"Whiz! Whiz! Whiz!"

Three more equally sharp and piercing whistles sounded in succession!

So fast that people couldn't react at all!

"Puff! Puff! Puff!"

In the crowd, three indigenous warriors holding spears, preparing to pierce Lin Feng's body from the side—their chests, almost at the same time, erupted into three dazzling bursts of blood!

The powerful kinetic energy even sent their bodies staggering back several steps!

They didn't even have time to let out a scream before they fell straight down, with the confusion and incomprehension from before their death still remaining in their eyes.

Panic!

Like a flood breaking a dam, like a prairie fire of plague, it swept through the heart of every "Guardian" in just three seconds!

If the death of the first person was an accident, a divine punishment.

Then these successive eerie deaths were the signal of the devil's arrival!

This was not a power that mortals could possess!

These were not weapons that their spears and stone axes could resist!

This was the wrath of the gods! A curse from hell!

"Ah—! Devil! It's the devil!!"

In the crowd, someone let out a completely broken, high-pitched scream.

This scream became the last straw that broke the camel's back!

The indigenous warriors, who were originally fearless and willing to do anything to protect their home, had their mental defenses completely shattered by this unknown and incomprehensible power at this moment!

"Waaah!!"

"Run! Run quickly!"

They threw away their weapons and, as if they had seen a ghost, let out screams of extreme terror. They no longer cared about protection or enemies, and one by one, they turned and fled in panic, scrambling toward any place they could hide!

The formation collapsed instantly!

The situation underwent a world-shaking reversal in just three seconds!

Lin Feng slowly opened his eyes.

Looking at this surreal, movie-like scene, looking at those indigenous people who wanted to tear him to pieces just a second ago but were now scurrying away, the string in his heart that had been tightened to its limit and could snap at any time finally "twanged" and relaxed.

He had bet correctly.

That bastard really was there!

"Go!"

The joy of surviving didn't make him lose his mind. He let out a low growl, grabbed the still-dazed Juan and Carlos, and used his last bit of strength to rush toward the totem pole.

The machete in his hand turned into a silver light, and with two quick slashes, he swiftly cut the vines on the wrists of the other two expedition support personnel!

"Follow me! Don't just stand there! To the river! Quickly!"

Lin Feng's voice was hoarse, but it was filled with an unquestionable command!

He didn't have the time or the extra strength to save everyone.

On the totem pole, there were two or three other prisoners tied up. They were looking at Lin Feng with pleading eyes, making "wuwu" sounds of begging.

But the chaos in the distance was quickly subsiding!

That Old Priest was screaming frantically in a shrill and strange tone, seemingly using their faith to try and regroup those terrified clansmen!

Must evacuate immediately!

Now! Right now!

Lin Feng made the coldest, yet only correct decision.

He didn't even give the abandoned prisoners a second look. Leading the four people he had just saved, he ran headlong toward the dark riverbank at the edge of the village!

"Wu... wuwu..."

The prisoners left on the totem pole watched as Lin Feng's figure disappeared into the darkness. The fire of hope in their eyes was instantly extinguished, replaced by endless darkness and despair, which finally turned into suppressed whimpers.

Lin Feng didn't look back.

He couldn't look back.

In this damn Rainforest, in the face of the cruel proposition of survival, any extra mercy was the greatest cruelty to himself and his companions!

...Meanwhile.

On a hillside several kilometers away.

A man in black combat gear, his face covered in camouflage paint, slowly lowered a sci-fi-looking Gauss Sniper Rifle full of metallic texture.

The muzzle was still emitting a faint, visible residual heat.

He was the strongest ace under Osiris, the leader of the Scorpion Squad.

"Sir, the target has escaped and is evacuating to the designated B-3 Riverbank Location," he reported in a low, emotionless voice into his headset.

From the headset came Osiris's satisfied voice, tinged with a hint of a smile.

"Very good, well done, Scorpion."

"Let them go. The reaction of these Guardians was a bit more intense than I imagined. It seems the description of 'living sacrifice' in that Ancient Journal was not groundless."

Osiris's voice carried a calm sense of being in control of everything.

"These indigenous people are a safety lock before opening the gates of El Dorado. Only by sacrificing the blood of outsiders to appease their 'wrath' will they hold the ceremony and open the true passage."

"Then we..." the Scorpion leader asked.

"No rush." Osiris's tone became cold and cruel. "Let Lin Feng continue to be his pathfinder. He has successfully attracted most of the Guardians' attention. Well done."

"Tighten the line and follow them. When he finds the true entrance for us, that will be the time for us to close the net."

"As for those Guardians..."

Osiris let out a light chuckle, filled with disdain and killing intent.

"Just a bunch of monkeys with stone axes and wooden clubs. Just clean them up. I don't want my 'key' to have its mood ruined by a few buzzing flies when it's about to unlock the door."

"Yes, sir!"

A bloodthirsty glint flashed in the Scorpion leader's eyes.

He put away his sniper rifle and made a gesture to the darkness behind him.

Several ghost-like shadows rose silently from the jungle and then quietly disappeared into the night as if they had never appeared.

A siege that was originally aimed only at Lin Feng had quietly turned into a one-sided massacre against the entire Guardians tribe with a casual remark from Osiris!

And Lin Feng, who was fleeing for his life in the dark Rainforest, knew nothing of all this.

He only knew that he had just crawled out of the gates of hell.

He also only knew that behind him, those indigenous people, who were completely enraged and had slightly recovered from the fear of the sniping, were already chasing him again!

The howls mixed with anger and hatred were rapidly approaching!
