152: Copper coins inside the computer case!
Chen Kai glanced around casually at the entrance. It was simply too big, and it was already 9:30. If he had to walk through this entire area to find that computer case...
...it would likely have already been taken by someone looking to Score a Bargain, and he definitely wouldn't be able to Score a Bargain before twelve o'clock.
He decided to just ride his Electric Scooter around to look, and if he found it, he would ask how much it cost.
Unexpectedly, just as he rode in, an Old Man on the side of the road waved him down and stopped him.
There was only one road leading to the Scrap Collection Station, and Chen Kai was blocked right in the middle of it.
"Young man, are you looking to sell your Electric Scooter?"
The Old Man on the side of the road asked with a curious expression. In every word and action, there was a sense of shadiness, and Chen Kai couldn't help but feel that this Old Man was not quite right.
"What's the matter, Old Man?"
"I came here to buy some things to see if I could find something useful. It's cheap, right? I can make do with it. I just graduated from college and don't have much money. I just rented a place, and I have even less money in my hands now."
"But I still need to buy furniture and things. Since I don't have money to buy new ones, I thought I'd come here to look. It's cheap, buying at scrap prices."
Chen Kai rubbed the tip of his nose. Lying had become second nature to him now; mainly because every time he interacted with different people, he had to make up a different lie in order to Score a Bargain.
Otherwise, how could people be foolish enough to sell things directly to him?
The Old Man on the side of the road nodded, half-understanding.
"Oh... is that so? What do you want to buy?"
"I work here. Their boss is very unscrupulous when selling things, so why don't I just sell it to you myself? What do you want? Just transfer the money to me."
"Then you can just take the item and leave. How about it? I'll give you a cheap price; they would definitely sell it to you for a very high price."
Chen Kai immediately frowned, beginning to hesitate in his heart.
This Old Man was definitely being exploited and wanted to make some extra cash, but... for a secondhand computer case, their boss definitely wouldn't pursue it.
Even if he did pursue it, he wouldn't know what was inside the computer case, so that wasn't really a big problem.
He was just afraid that this Old Man didn't actually work at this factory. If that were the case, the problem would be a bit bigger—that would be theft.
Although the amount wasn't large, Chen Kai had always held the attitude that it's better to avoid trouble than to invite it.
"Can you show me your work ID, Old Man?"
"No problem. Here you go, this is my work ID. Just tell me what you want to buy, and I'll sneak you over there. Don't ride your Electric Scooter."
The Old Man immediately took the access pass out of his pocket and placed it in Chen Kai's hand.
Chen Kai took the access pass and looked at it for a few moments. It was indeed a photo of the Old Man himself, and it was the badge for this Scrap Collection Station.
If that was the case, then there wasn't much of a problem, and it was actually more convenient.
It saved him from having to haggle with the boss for a long time just to Score a Bargain.
"Alright, Old Man, do you know where the computer cases are usually kept?"
"I know. They're just sold with the iron and electronic components. Park your scooter on the side of the road and come with me."
The Old Man waved his hand mysteriously, and after Chen Kai parked his scooter, he grabbed his hand and walked into a small alley to the side.
Chen Kai followed him as they wove through the small alleys of the various scrap areas.
They passed through the three areas of plastic water bottles, cardboard boxes, and copper, before finally reaching an open space piled high with electronic components.
The level of trash in the open space was comparable to an ordinary Scrap Collection Station; there was simply nowhere to step, and it hadn't been organized at all.
It felt like they just piled everything onto the open ground after collecting it, waiting for the dump trucks to come and haul it away by the truckload.
In the exceptionally chaotic open space, Chen Kai didn't see any computer cases glowing with a faint light.
"Go ahead and pick. There are good ones and bad ones; I don't know what kind you're looking to choose."
"Anyway, they're all here. It's fifty for each piece, just take whatever you want."
Chen Kai nodded and stepped over the discarded computer cases, microwaves, televisions, and other items that were piled up like a small hill on the ground, and walked toward the mountain of televisions.
He searched through the pile of discarded electronic components for a long time, but Chen Kai didn't see any glowing objects.
He scratched his head, feeling a bit confused. This wasn't right.
In such a big Scrap Collection Station, if everything was concentrated in one area, he wouldn't be able to see the things buried underneath.
"Old Man, there are so few computer cases here. The only two computer cases are broken, and they won't even sell for a good price. Do you have any others?"
Chen Kai rubbed the tip of his nose and asked with a puzzled expression.
He had practically plowed the ground, but he still hadn't gained anything; he hadn't seen a single glowing object.
Whether it was day or night, the items designated by the system would definitely glow.
But if he hadn't found it after looking for so long, there must be a problem.
Just like the time he went to Score a Bargain the day before yesterday and it was in a tree; he looked on the ground for ages, only for it to end up being in a tree. Who could have thought of that?
The Old Man on the side pondered for a moment. "There is another pile of new electronic components that were just collected and haven't been sorted yet. You'll have to pick through them yourself."
"But they are all newly collected and haven't been cleaned, so they might be a bit dirty."
Chen Kai's eyes lit up, and he immediately nodded in agreement.
"Alright, that's fine. Old Man, take me over to see it. I'll pick through it myself, and I can just clean it up when I get back."
"Alright then, I'll take you over for a look."
The Old Man immediately led the way, and Chen Kai took a few steps and jumped down from the mountain-like pile of electronic components.
They walked all the way to another pile of so-called unsorted electronic components.
Chen Kai twitched the corner of his mouth. Was there any difference in the level of filth and disorder?
This is what they call unsorted?!
"Hey, this pile hasn't been sorted yet. There might even be some good things in here. Our boss sorts through all the secondhand electronic components collected the previous day every day at twelve o'clock."
"If he finds something that works or is in good condition, he keeps it to sell at a different price. If it's unusable, he throws it into that pile from before."
"Anyway, take a look. If you go to our boss, he definitely won't sell it to you, but I, this Old Man, will still sell it for fifty."
Chen Kai curled the corner of his mouth. No wonder he had to come before twelve o'clock.
As soon as he stood in front of this pile of scrap electronic components, Chen Kai saw a discarded computer case glowing with a faint light at a glance.
Chen Kai immediately rubbed his hands together excitedly and moved away the scrap piled up next to the black computer case.
He grabbed the discarded computer case, and when he shook it, there was indeed something rattling inside.
Chen Kai deliberately pretended to look disappointed.
"Sigh... this isn't any better either. Can you sell it for 45?"
"I have to do major repairs when I take it back. Didn't you hear that the components inside are broken?"
The Old Man looked hesitant, but finally gritted his teeth.
"Alright, 45 is fine. It's yours, take it and go."
After paying the money, there wasn't a trace of an expression of having lost out on the Old Man's face.
Chen Kai held back his laughter. This wasn't even scrap that you spent money to collect, so why are you acting so generous?
