Chapter 50 Special Missions of the Army
"An emergency mission?" Chu Han asked, puzzled.
"I'll tell you when you get here. I've already sent a car to pick you up."
Li Yunjian's voice sounded very anxious. He gave a few instructions and then hung up the phone.
Although Chu Han was confused, he didn't ask further.
This was his first military mission, and he felt a sense of anticipation in his heart.
"It's been a long time since I've been to the wilderness. This is a perfect chance to go out and gain some experience!"
Chu Han immediately packed his weapons and equipment, making all the necessary preparations.
Before long, an armored military vehicle roared up to the entrance of the Linjiang Community.
Chu Han boarded immediately, and the armored vehicle drove all the way to the gates of the supply base outside the city.
Here, Li Yunjian and a group of soldiers had already finished assembling, totaling more than twenty people.
The weakest among them were at the 2nd Rank Martial Artist level, and they were soldiers armed with firearms.
Li Yunjian had two Fourth-Tier Martial Artists as deputies by his side, along with over a dozen Third-Tier Martial Artists.
Such a force would be a power to be reckoned with anywhere.
It could be said that this unit had gathered most of the military's elites!
"This mission probably won't be simple," Chu Han thought to himself.
"Captain Li!"
Chu Han gave a military salute.
Li Yunjian smiled slightly and said, "Chu Han, you're here. Now that everyone is present, let's set off immediately!"
Chu Han nodded and followed the team as they headed into the wilderness.
As they marched, Li Yunjian said to Chu Han, "Our destination this time is a canyon deep within the Black Stone Mountain Range. The mission is a rescue."
"A rescue?" Chu Han showed a hint of confusion.
Who could possibly be worth mobilizing such a force to rescue?
Li Yunjian explained, "We need to rescue a research team from the Jingwu University Research Institute. They were escorted by elite students from Capital Martial Arts University, and the lead Martial Artist's strength had reached the 5th rank. However, they completely lost contact early this morning, so the higher-ups urgently ordered me to assemble a team for the rescue."
"Even a 5th-rank Martial Artist lost contact? What exactly did they encounter?"
Although the depths of the Black Cloud Mountain Range were full of danger, it shouldn't have been enough to make a team led by a 5th-rank Martial Artist lose contact.
They might have encountered a special mutant beast, or perhaps Slayers who specialized in ambushing others.
If it were either of those scenarios, the survival chances of those people would be very low.
Li Yunjian continued, "I heard that Capital Martial Arts University also sent a Martial Artist who was nearby. He entered the Black Stone Mountain Range earlier than us. I've sent his contact information to everyone's communicator, but we can't get in touch with him right now."
"Chu Han, this mission is extremely important and is also a good opportunity for you. I believe in your strength."
"Understood. I'll perform well," Chu Han nodded.
Although this mission was dangerous and full of challenges, it was also a great training opportunity for him.
A Martial Artist needs to improve through constant actual combat.
"Everyone stay close, we're moving at full speed from here on!"
Li Yunjian shouted from the front of the team and then quickened his pace.
The group accelerated. They avoided any exotic beasts they encountered along the way, never stopping for even a moment.
Chu Han followed closely behind Li Yunjian; marching at this speed was very easy for him.
The team continued deeper for several hours until a deep canyon appeared before them.
On both sides of the canyon were towering black stone cliffs, riddled with bottomless caves. The canyon floor was shrouded in thick fog, making visibility very low.
Seeing the environment, everyone's expressions turned incredibly solemn.
This was deep within the Black Stone Mountain Range, where lethal crises lurked everywhere. With such low visibility, they had to be a hundred times more careful.
"Everyone, stay sharp! The canyon is extremely dangerous. Third-tier exotic beasts are everywhere, and various poisonous insects and mutant plants are also incredibly hazardous. You must stay close to the team!"
Li Yunjian warned loudly.
"Captain Li, I still don't think this is right."
At that moment, a discordant voice suddenly came from the middle of the team. The speaker was Li Yunjian's deputy, Han Wei.
Han Wei was younger than Li Yunjian and was already a Fourth-Tier Martial Artist. With a hint of arrogance on his face, he said, "Aside from the long-range soldiers with guns, who in our team isn't a Third-Tier Martial Artist? Why bring a student who hasn't even taken the Martial Arts Grand Examination? Isn't this just dragging us down?"
Han Wei and Li Yunjian had always been rivals in the military, and in terms of position, the two were roughly equal.
For this emergency mission, the higher-ups had put the stronger Li Yunjian in command, with Han Wei and another Fourth-Tier Martial Artist serving as deputies.
Han Wei was much younger than Li Yunjian.
Even though there was a one-tier difference in their strength, he had never respected Li Yunjian.
Moreover, many people in this team were his subordinates, so his words carried quite a bit of weight.
Earlier, when Chu Han was following Li Yunjian and didn't step in when they encountered danger, Han Wei had already become dissatisfied.
Now that they were about to enter the even more dangerous canyon, Han Wei directly voiced his doubts about Chu Han, which was also a challenge to Li Yunjian.
As soon as Han Wei spoke, a wave of whispers broke out in the team.
Some team members peeked at Chu Han, their eyes filled with skepticism.
Mainly, Chu Han was too young. No matter how they looked at him, he didn't seem like someone who should be involved in such a high-risk mission.
"Han Wei, Chu Han is someone I personally selected. His strength is naturally not an issue." Li Yunjian frowned slightly, his tone carrying a hint of displeasure.
He knew Han Wei had never respected him and was now deliberately stirring up trouble in the team, clearly trying to embarrass him.
But Han Wei wouldn't let it go: "Captain Li, just because you say he's fine doesn't mean he is. Looking at his age, he's probably not even a 2nd Rank Martial Artist, right? When we run into danger, we'll have to protect him!"
Seeing this, Chu Han took out his martial artist medal and let everyone see it: "Can this prove my strength?"
"A Third-Tier Martial Artist medal?" someone in the team exclaimed.
"Such a young Third-Tier Martial Artist? No wonder he can participate in this mission." The voices of doubt suddenly diminished significantly.
However, Han Wei sneered, "Who knows if this medal is actually yours? Maybe you borrowed it."
Hearing this, Chu Han said coldly, "The medal was issued by the Martial Artist Association, so it is naturally mine. As for my strength..."
Before he could finish his sentence, his brow suddenly furrowed. He sensed a fast-moving dark shadow in the mist twenty meters to the right!
The shadow crawled close to the ground at extreme speed, arriving before everyone in the blink of an eye.
Swish!
Before anyone could react, a giant black spider suddenly burst out of the mist on the right, leaping above a soldier's head. Its massive spider legs were already stabbing toward him.
A pale human face was printed on its chest, looking extremely terrifying.
The soldier was turned pale with fright at the sight, even dropping his gun on the ground.
"Watch out!"
Li Yunjian immediately shouted a warning but was too late to help.
At the critical moment, Chu Han's figure flashed. His combat blade drew a cold arc in the air, instantly severing the spider's legs.
Then he leapt up and executed the 4th form of the Seven Forms of Army Breaking, splitting the spider in two from top to bottom.
Boom!
The spider's massive body crashed to the ground, splashing dark green spider blood all over the soldier.
The entire team instantly went silent. Everyone was shaken, yet they looked at Chu Han in shock.
The rescued soldier, in particular, cast a grateful look toward Chu Han.
"This is a third-tier Human-Faced Demon Spider. It's extremely good at hiding its aura, and in the canyon's mist, its concealment ability is even stronger!"
"Now, does anyone else doubt Chu Han's strength?"
Li Yunjian said, pointing at the corpse of the Human-Faced Demon Spider.
