257: I understand you

Chen Beggar walked along the roads of the Humanity Sect, feeling that everything was so familiar.

He wasn't in a hurry to find his younger sister.

Instead, he first returned to a dilapidated temple, which was his residence when he was a beggar.

Back then, in the dilapidated temple, there was him, and there was his younger sister.

This was his home.

However, when he returned to the dilapidated temple, his home already had other beggars.

It was a young man, disheveled, looking at him warily.

"Are you a beggar too?"

The young man let out a sigh of relief.

Chen Beggar's clothes had never changed; they were still ragged beggar's attire.

Hearing the young man's words, Chen Beggar was slightly stunned, then smiled and nodded:

"Yes, I'm also a beggar."

"Alas, seeing how pitiful you are, I'll let you have half of this dilapidated temple."

The young man sighed.

He spoke very generously.

Hearing this, Chen Beggar walked into the dilapidated temple, feeling a little dazed. Back then, his younger sister had also suddenly come to the temple, and seeing her pitiful, he let her take shelter from the wind and rain there.

Later, the two became siblings.

Chen Beggar didn't mind the dirt and sat directly by the wall, looking out of the dilapidated temple.

Unfortunately, one person was missing beside him.

"Hey, have you eaten yet?"

At this moment, the young man spoke.

Chen Beggar came back to his senses and shook his head. With his cultivation, he no longer needed to eat.

Seeing this, the young man hesitated for a moment and took out a sweet potato from his embrace.

He carefully broke it in half, swallowed a mouthful of saliva, and handed the slightly larger portion to Chen Beggar:

"Here you go."

"You eat it yourself."

Chen Beggar smiled and shook his head.

His eyes were full of memories. When he and his younger sister were starving, they also shared their only food. His younger sister worried about him starving, and he worried about his younger sister starving...

They often pushed it back and forth, and many times, in their pushing, they accidentally dropped the food on the ground.

The siblings didn't mind.

They picked it up and continued eating.

At this moment, the young man sat beside Chen Beggar, insisting on handing the sweet potato to Chen Beggar. He gnawed on his half and, like Chen Beggar,

looked outside the dilapidated temple.

"I also like sitting here. Every night, I can see many stars."

The young man spoke, his eyes sparkling with light.

Chen Beggar smiled, carefully took two bites of the sweet potato, and then handed it back:

"I'm full, you eat it yourself."

"You..."

The young man hesitated:

"Eat some more."

He licked his lips, clearly not full himself, but still thinking of Chen Beggar.

Chen Beggar shook his head, insisting on returning the sweet potato to the young man.

The young man scratched his head:

"Then I'll eat it?"

"Eat."

Chen Beggar smiled.

He looked at the young man, feeling that this young man was very much like his former self.

Watching the young man finish the sweet potato, Chen Beggar asked:

"Do you like watching stars?"

"Yes.

Those stars are very bright, and I also want to shine like a star."

The young man nodded.

His eyes held a stubbornness and an aspiration for the future.

Many people's eyes are like this when they are young, sparkling with light.

But as they grow older, reality will, little by little, extinguish the light in their eyes.

Only a few lucky ones might continue to maintain that light, and this light will gradually expand, illuminating the entire person.

For example, Chen Beggar.

When he was young, he was also like this, hoping to shine like a star, but whenever he faced reality, he found himself trapped in the dilapidated temple.

Fortunately, he had someone by his side at the time.

That's why his light persisted, and this young man...

"How do you want to shine?"

Chen Beggar asked.

The young man clenched his fist, saying somewhat excitedly:

"In the Humanity Sect, as long as you have one Spirit Stone, you can join the Outer Sect!

As long as you join the Humanity Sect, you can shine!"

"Do you have Spirit Stones?"

Chen Beggar asked.

Hearing this, the young man instantly became wary, stepping back two paces and looking at Chen Beggar:

"Why are you asking this?"

Chen Beggar smiled and didn't say much. He planned to help this young man.

Just like helping his past self.

However, he would have to test him for a few days.

...

Chen Beggar was testing someone, while on the other side, Chen Baizhe was facing a test.

Qin Jiang strolled to a small courtyard.

This was the residence of Bai Zhe Immortal, and compared to other places, the environment was quite good.

Quiet and elegant.

Normally, no one would come here.

Strands of zither music emanated from the courtyard. Qin Jiang closed his eyes slightly, listening quietly.

After a while, the zither music stopped, and a voice came from within the courtyard:

"After listening for so long, do you have any comments?"

As the words fell, the courtyard gate opened, and an elegant White-Skirt Woman sat before an ancient zither, looking at Qin Jiang with a calm expression and a hint of inherent gentleness.

Qin Jiang entered the small courtyard with a smile on his face:

"The zither music is like the person, gentle and refined, intoxicating. Bai Zhe Immortal, I've long admired you."

"If you're just flattering me, you can leave."

Chen Baizhe said indifferently.

Qin Jiang smiled and sat directly opposite Chen Baizhe, glanced at the ancient zither, and then carefully observed Bai Zhe Immortal.

After a while, he spoke:

"I don't understand the zither, but I understand you."

"I've heard too many sweet nothings. If you're trying to pursue me, you should leave."

"It's not sweet nothings."

Qin Jiang shook his head:

"I truly understand you."

Chen Baizhe looked at Qin Jiang indifferently. Many people pursued her, but her heart no longer had space.

She would not agree to anyone.

Even if this person was the most handsome she had ever seen.

"You lack a sense of security."

Qin Jiang spoke.

Hearing this, Chen Baizhe's delicate brows furrowed, and her jade hand resting on the ancient zither trembled slightly.

Her gaze lowered slightly, her tone still calm:

"I am a Human Immortal expert, and my teacher is the foremost person below a True Immortal. Our Humanity Sect is renowned throughout Qingyun Heaven.

You say I lack a sense of security?"

"That's right!"

Qin Jiang affirmed:

"Although your strength is great and your background is even stronger, you...

are still a rootless duckweed.

In the Humanity Sect, no one can become the soil to plant you, this rootless duckweed."

Chen Baizhe's heart trembled slightly.

Ever since Chen Beggar left, she had lost her sense of security. It had been tens of thousands of years, even though her strength had reached the Human Immortal realm.

But as Qin Jiang said, she was like a rootless duckweed, with nothing to rely on.

No one could become that handful of soil.

She looked at Qin Jiang. This guy was very young, yet he saw through her heart.

However...

Chen Baizhe shook her head and said:

"You should go.

In this world, no one can become a resting place for me, this rootless duckweed."

"No."

Qin Jiang leaned closer, placing his palm on the ancient zither:

"I understand you!

I can give you something to rely on, I can give you that long-lost sense of security."
