44: The Devil of Destruction Doesn't Recognize Her Brother

Time rewound to a little earlier.

The Foundation's top combat strength had arrived at the Anti-Resistance Army's headquarters, in front of the gate of the so-called Holy City.

The Holy City, while sounding grand, was nothing more than a rather large, complex refugee camp.

Eighty percent of the people here were probably those who were dissatisfied with the Foundation's rule and had gathered together.

The remaining twenty percent were mostly war profiteers looking to get rich.

The leader was none other than the tall, elderly Foundation President, Lord Statham.

Beside him stood a cold, expressionless young girl in a red Lolita dress.

She was the Calamity Witch who had recently struck fear into the Anti-Resistance Army, causing them to collapse upon contact.

Uh, no, perhaps she had now been upgraded to the World-Destroying Witch.

The World-Destroying Witch's reputation was far more resounding than Vivian's.

Red light flickered on the World-Destroying Witch's chest, and the depths of her golden eyes surged with endless emptiness and brutality.

In just a few days, tens of thousands of Anti-Resistance Army members had perished at her hands.

Blood and death further nourished her cold and ruthless aura.

Statham looked at the World-Destroying Witch with satisfaction, as if she were the most prized weapon in the world.

The girl-weapon was his best tool for consolidating his power.

"Open the city and surrender, or die."

Statham spoke, his powerful voice, amplified by the most advanced loudspeaker, clearly and accurately reached everyone in the Holy City.

"Pfft—!"

His reply was an Arcane missile that whizzed past his ear.

It caused little damage, but was extremely insulting.

Above the city wall, a female warrior in silver armor, with her silver hair flowing, quietly met Statham's gaze.

"Stubborn..."

Statham was expressionless, and with a gentle wave of his hand, the attack began.

An S-rank individual, holding a long sword, lightly swung it, unleashing a Wind Blade that directly created a crack tens of meters long on the city wall.

The silver-haired female warrior was not to be outdone; she held her greatsword upright in front of her, and a golden light projection, a hundred meters in diameter, descended from the sky, defending against and counterattacking any means of assault.

Both were S-rank formidable combatants!

"I'll do it!"

Another S-rank individual held one hand up to the sky, conjuring divine lightning from thin air to strike down and obliterate the female warrior.

Another Arcane Envoy, an Arcane Envoy capable of using an eighth-level Arcane spell!

The female warrior lightly tapped her greatsword, deflecting the divine lightning, which landed in the Foundation's ranks, instantly reducing two unlucky A-ranks to ashes.

When immortals fight, mortals suffer.

Statham frowned slightly.

He waved his hand, and the ring on his finger emitted a red light.

The World-Destroying Witch received the command and took a gentle step forward.

The girl lightly raised her unblemished white arm, and a wave of wind instantly spread out.

"Boom!"

The golden light projection protecting the city wall instantly shattered.

Amidst the scattered golden light, the World-Destroying Witch had already ascended into the air.

She used the most ordinary Levitation.

Even though she had more efficient Arcane spells.

She inexplicably chose this one.

She and the silver-haired female warrior on the city wall gazed at each other from afar.

Terrifying curses, like a hellish chant, continuously echoed in the latter's ears.

But the female warrior's face was calm, as if completely unaffected.

The World-Destroying Witch was somewhat puzzled.

She felt as if this scene was familiar.

In the depths of her mind, there seemed to be someone who also ignored her curses.

But unlike her current opponent, that person would not stand quietly in place.

He would approach her without hesitation.

And then what?

And then what?

The World-Destroying Witch could not recall it no matter how hard she tried.

Who was he?

What was his name?

What had they experienced?

Why did he always surface in her mind from time to time?

She couldn't see his face, couldn't remember his voice; the only imprint was that feeling.

That was...

The feeling of never wanting to be separated once met.

The World-Destroying Witch became agitated.

An object had no right to possess such things.

Illusions, all illusions.

As long as she killed the person who triggered her illusions, as long as she killed the female warrior in front of her, it would be fine.

She lightly raised her right hand, and terrifying Wind Blades converged in her palm.

The female warrior's gaze was calm; she raised her greatsword, taking a defensive stance.

Buzz~

The wind blew.

The greatsword was completely severed, along with the female warrior's chest cavity.

Silver hair fell, revealing a pair of long, pointed ears.

Blood bloomed like flowers in the ruins.

Watching her fall with a complicated expression, the World-Destroying Witch did not feel relieved.

Perhaps, she hadn't killed enough yet.

With the gatekeeper dead, the army instantly entered the city.

Having completed her mission, the World-Destroying Witch received a command from Lord President and returned to his side.

"Why?" Her thought suddenly echoed in Statham's mind.

"What?"

"Why do I feel agitated?"

"That's because," Statham's gaze turned towards the collapsed city wall, "the sin has not yet been cleansed."

The World-Destroying Witch seemed to understand, yet not; Lord President's words were absolute.

If his answer could not alleviate her confusion, it only meant that she had a problem.

The World-Destroying Witch followed Statham into the city, step by step.

Along the way were people brutally slaughtered.

Soldiers, civilians.

Adults, adolescents.

Suddenly, the World-Destroying Witch saw a blood-stained youth beneath the ruins, holding a dying little girl in his arms, his face filled with sorrow and despair.

He looked at the World-Destroying Witch, and that hateful gaze deeply shook her heart. Her soul.

"Brother..., will I... die? I don't want to die..." The little girl in the youth's arms let out her final whimper.

Bro... brother?

Brother?

As if a keyword was triggered, a faint golden light subtly flashed across the World-Destroying Witch's chest.

That blurry figure in her mind became clear for a moment, then blurred again.

Statham indifferently twisted his ring, flicked his finger, and sent the youth flying into the ruins from thin air.

"Go." Statham issued another command.

The World-Destroying Witch looked in the direction where the youth was buried, unmoving.

"I said, go."

Statham twisted the ring again, then realized with astonishment that the control intensity had reached its maximum.

The World-Destroying Witch suddenly felt an itch on her chin.

She reached out to touch it, puzzled, and it was wet.

Like a teardrop.

That youth resembled someone.

Similarly holding a girl, never abandoning her.

The World-Destroying Witch understood.

That person, that name etched in her heart, was called Brother.

"Never mind, if it's broken, just discard it." Statham felt a pang of regret, but he still removed the safety device and continued to twist the ring beyond its critical value.

In a blink of an eye, it had exceeded 200%.

The red gem on the World-Destroying Witch's chest began to flicker, and her aura became erratic.

She uncontrollably ascended into the air, heading directly towards the central church of the Holy City.

She stood on the church spire, her arms crossed in front of her, hugging her shoulders.

Like the most devout nun in the world.

An aura suddenly erupted, and a mushroom cloud roared up with her as the center.

Everything was utterly destroyed.

"Convenient."

Statham, protected by layers of shielding, stayed far from the danger zone, quietly waiting for the storm to subside.

Even the World-Destroying Witch's corpse would be of great use to him.

Now that the major threat was resolved, peace would reign supreme.

However, as he was envisioning the future, a man, disfigured by the shockwave, was staggering yet walking determinedly towards the center of the explosion.

"9527?"

Statham questioned aloud.
