123: The eldest son forcefully forces his way through Europe, displaying his tyranny; the three men's greed leads to their downfall once again.
At ten o'clock on Sunday morning, in the plaza downstairs from the Zhongcheng Group, Su Daqiang sat by a flower bed wailing loudly, holding a cardboard sign that read: 'Begging daughter to take father to Europe; unfilial director refuses to fulfill her duty.' Passersby formed several thick layers around him, with some taking photos on their mobile phones and others pointing at Su Mingyu—who had just come out from working overtime at the company, clutching the proposal for the new energy project, only to be blocked right in her tracks by this spectacle.
“Mingyu! You have to take me to Europe!” Su Daqiang saw her and immediately lunged forward to grab her arm, gripping so hard it hurt. “These old bones of mine don't have many years left. I just want to see the Eiffel Tower and the Colosseum. You're a director now; are you really so stingy that you won't spend even this little bit of money? You're so unfilial!”
Su Mingyu frowned and tried to shake him off. “Dad, a trip to Europe costs at least fifty thousand. My project funds are tight lately, and a normal domestic trip would be just as relaxing. There's no need to spend so much money to go abroad.”
“What's the point of domestic travel?” Su Daqiang sat down on the ground, holding the sign even higher. “Mingzhe said the air in Europe is good and would be beneficial for my old asthma; Mingcheng also said going there could help him find job opportunities! If the three of you chip in—Mingyu gives thirty thousand, Zhu Li gives fifteen thousand, and Wu Fei gives five thousand—it’s exactly fifty thousand. It's not much!”
As soon as he finished speaking, Su Mingzhe and Su Mingcheng emerged from the crowd. Su Mingzhe was wearing a brand-new windbreaker and carrying a designer bag. “Mingyu, Dad is right; a trip to Europe would be good for his health. My rent in America is high, so I really can't spare any money. Zhu Li is a supervisor now, and Wu Fei has a house; let them bear more of the burden. We're all family.”
Su Mingcheng chimed in nonchalantly with his hands in his pockets, “Exactly! I owe seventy thousand in gambling debts; going to Europe is the perfect way to hide. Plus, I can see if a Chinese boss there will hire me—it kills two birds with one stone! If you don't agree, I'll go make a scene at your project partners' offices so they won't dare work with you!”
The two of them worked in tandem, putting Su Mingyu in a difficult position. Just then, Zhu Li and Wu Fei arrived with Xiao Mi. Zhu Li had received a WeChat message from Su Mingcheng in the morning saying, 'Dad is making a scene at Zhongcheng; come and help persuade Mingyu.' Sensing something was wrong, she dragged along Wu Fei, who had just dropped Xiao Mi off at an interest class, and they happened to stumble upon this scene.
“Dad, Su Mingcheng and I are already divorced; travel expenses have nothing to do with me!” Zhu Li frowned, holding her recently printed pay stub. “I just got promoted to supervisor, and my monthly salary is only eight thousand. After rent and living expenses, I have no spare cash at all.”
Wu Fei nodded in agreement, shielding Xiao Mi behind her. “That's right, Dad. My divorce papers will be finalized next week. I have to raise Xiao Mi in the future, so where would I get spare cash for travel expenses? Su Mingzhe, you have over fifty thousand USD in your American account, and Su Mingcheng should find his own way. How can you expect us to pay for everything?”
Xiao Mi hid in Wu Fei's arms, tugging at her clothes and whispering, “Mommy, Grandpa said he wanted to hire a caregiver last time, and now he wants to go on a trip. Uncle said Grandpa has lots of money under his bed. Is he lying?”
Hearing this, Su Daqiang's Face turned pale instantly, and he quickly glared at Xiao Mi. “Don't talk nonsense, child! Where would I get lots of money?”
“Whether there's money or not, we'll know by looking at the evidence.” Xie Hui's voice came from outside the crowd. He was carrying a briefcase, followed by a travel agency employee in a suit—the very one Su Daqiang had consulted yesterday—holding an unsigned 'Ten-Day Europe Tour' contract.
Xie Hui parted the crowd and walked forward, first saying to the travel agency employee, “Manager Wang, please tell us what Mr. Su discussed with you yesterday.”
Manager Wang opened the contract and pointed to the clauses. “Mr. Su said yesterday, ‘My daughter is a director at Zhongcheng and is very rich; she’ll definitely pay for me.’ He even asked me to change the economy hotels in the itinerary to five-star ones, saying, ‘Money is no object, I want the best.’”
Su Daqiang panicked instantly and reached out to grab the contract. “You're lying! When did I ever say that?”
“Whether you said it or not, the recording will make it clear.” Xie Hui took his mobile phone out of his briefcase and played a recording—one he had made yesterday using 'Time Stop' during Su Daqiang's conversation at the travel agency: “If that girl Mingyu doesn't agree, I'll go make a scene at her company. She cares most about Face, so she'll definitely compromise. Mingzhe, you help me talk up how great Europe is, and Mingcheng, you help me threaten her. With the three of us working together, are we really afraid we won't get the money? When the time comes, I'll stay in five-star hotels, Mingzhe can buy a designer watch, and Mingcheng can hide from his gambling debts. It’s three birds with one stone...”
The calculating voice in the recording was clear and piercing. The surrounding chatter instantly changed tone: “So he was trying to scam money for his own enjoyment! This old man is such a faker!” “Director Su has it so hard, being plotted against by her own family every day!”
Su Daqiang's Face turned the color of pig liver. He tried to grab the phone, but Xie Hui stepped aside to dodge him. Su Mingzhe quickly tried to smooth things over: “Mr. Xie, this is our Su Family's business; don't interfere! I truly believe the environment in Europe is good and would benefit Dad's asthma. I didn't intend to scam money.”
“Good for asthma?” Xie Hui pulled a bank statement from his briefcase and threw it in front of Su Mingzhe. “You just bought a designer watch for over thirty thousand USD in America last week, and you still say you have no money? This statement shows 'Luxury Consumption: 32,000 USD.' Do you want to read it out loud for everyone?”
When the statement was handed to Su Mingzhe, his hands shook instantly, and he quickly turned his Face away. “I... I bought that for a friend!”
“For a friend?” Xie Hui pulled out another screenshot of a chat between Su Mingzhe and his younger sister, Su Minglan: “I bought a Rolex. Once Dad's scene is successful, I'll go to Europe to buy a bag and get you some Perfume.” The timestamp on the screenshot was from yesterday. Su Mingzhe's Face lost all color.
Seeing this, Su Mingcheng tried to sneak out of the crowd, but Xie Hui grabbed his arm. “Where do you think you're going? Didn't you call the debt collectors yesterday and say, ‘Once I'm in Europe, you won't be able to find me’? Did you forget that?”
Xie Hui played a recording on his phone, and Su Mingcheng's voice came through against the background noise of a casino: “My dad can definitely force my sister to cough up the money. I'll follow him to Europe to hide for a few days until the debt collectors forget about me...”
Before the recording finished, Su Mingcheng's legs went weak, and he almost knelt on the ground. “I was wrong! I won't run from my debts anymore! I'll go find a job and pay it back right now!”
The surrounding pedestrians finally understood everything. Someone couldn't help but shout, “This family is too selfish! They live entirely by scamming their daughter and former daughters-in-law!” “Director Su, don't indulge them. Refuse them when you should!”
Su Daqiang no longer had the Face to stay. He scrambled up, grabbed his sign, and ran into an alley. Su Mingzhe and Su Mingcheng quickly followed, fearing Xie Hui might produce more evidence. Watching their pathetic retreating figures, Su Mingyu breathed a sigh of relief. She grabbed Xie Hui's arm, her voice still trembling slightly: “Thank you, Mr. Xie. You help me out of a bind every time. I really don't know how to thank you.”
“Don't be so polite with me.” Xie Hui reached into his inner universe, pulled out a bottle of warm milk, and handed it to her. “You definitely haven't had breakfast after working overtime. Drink something hot first. By the way, I've already spoken with General Manager Meng. From now on, security will patrol downstairs. If anyone from the Su Family comes to cause trouble again, they'll be blocked from entering.”
Zhu Li and Wu Fei also walked over. Zhu Li was holding a small notebook. “Mr. Xie, I recorded everything Su Mingcheng said to threaten you just now. If he dares to come back, we'll take the evidence to the police.”
Wu Fei followed up, “As for Su Mingzhe, the lawyer said the divorce papers will be finalized next week. If he dares to ask me for a single cent again, I'll go straight through legal channels. Xiao Mi was quite scared just now; why don't we take her to the Amusement Park for a while?”
Xie Hui nodded and pulled three small porcelain vials from his inner universe, handing one to each of them. “These are nine flower jade dew pills. You've had a shock today; taking one will calm your nerves. I've already booked tickets for the Amusement Park. Let's head over now and make Xiao Mi happy.”
Hearing 'Amusement Park', Xiao Mi immediately poked her head out from Wu Fei's arms, her eyes sparkling. “Uncle, I want to ride the carousel! And I want cotton candy!”
Xie Hui smiled and patted her head. “Okay, whatever Xiao Mi wants. We'll let you play to your heart's content today.”
The afternoon sun was perfect at the Amusement Park. Xiao Mi sat on the carousel, smiling like a flower. Wu Fei stood nearby watching, a long-absent relaxed smile on her lips. Su Mingyu and Zhu Li sat on a bench, looking over the cooperation proposal for the new energy project—General Manager Meng had just messaged saying the project could officially launch next week, and the profit share could reach the expected 15%.
“If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have the peace of mind to focus on the project.” Su Mingyu handed Xie Hui a bottle of iced cola. “I used to get such headaches being entangled in family matters, but now I can finally work steadily.”
Zhu Li also said with a smile, “I just got notice from the firm last week. I'll officially be promoted to supervisor next month and can lead my own audit team. This is all thanks to you helping me fend off Su Mingcheng's harassment.”
Wu Fei walked over, holding some freshly bought cotton candy. “I've finished talking with the lawyer. After the divorce, I'll have custody of Xiao Mi. Su Mingzhe will have to pay three thousand in child support every month, and he won't be able to use random excuses to delay it anymore.”
After accompanying Xiao Mi on the roller coaster, Xie Hui walked over and handed each of them an ice cream. “I'm happy for you all. No matter what we encounter in the future, we'll Face it together. We won't let the Su Family affect our lives ever again.”
In the evening, Xie Hui booked a family-friendly restaurant, where warm yellow light bathed the dining table. Xiao Mi sat next to Xie Hui, her Face covered in strawberry cake. Su Mingyu placed a piece of steak on Xie Hui's plate. “Thanks to you exposing the lies of my dad and brothers today. Eat more of this steak to nourish your body.”
Zhu Li served Xie Hui a bowl of mushroom soup. “I specifically asked the chef to add more goji berries to this soup to nourish your Qi and blood. You've been running around all day; you must be tired.”
Looking at the scene before her, Wu Fei said with a smile, “Xiao Mi told me today that she wants Uncle to be her ‘superhero.’ She said Uncle is more capable than Daddy and can protect Mommy and the aunts.”
Xie Hui raised his glass and said with a laugh, “Come, let's have a toast! May we never be bothered by the Su Family's annoying troubles again, and may our days get better and better!”
“Cheers!” The four glasses clinked together, and Xiao Mi also raised her juice box, shouting in a milky voice, “Cheers! I want to live a good life with Uncle, Mommy, and the aunts!”
When it was time to leave, Xie Hui dropped each of them off at home. When he dropped Su Mingyu off at her building, she took a handmade car ornament from her bag. It was embroidered with a small Magnolia flower and adorned with a small silver bell. “Mr. Xie, I sewed this over the weekend. Hang it in your car; it makes a sound when it jiggles, so it won't get lost easily. Thank you for always protecting me.”
Xie Hui took the ornament and shook it gently. The bell made a crisp sound, warming his heart. “I like it very much, thank you. No matter what happens in the future, I will be here.”
Su Mingyu's Face instantly turned red. She turned and walked quickly into the apartment building, taking a few steps before turning back to wave at Xie Hui. The streetlights fell on her Face, making it look as if it were coated in a layer of soft sugar, exceptionally gentle.
On the drive home, Xie Hui touched his inner universe—inside were today's recordings, bank statements, chat screenshots, and the ornament embroidered with the Magnolia. These were not cold pieces of evidence, but marks of his protection for the three female leads, and proof of them slowly stepping out from the shadow of their original families to live with confidence.
He knew that the three men of the Su Family might still be unwilling to give up and might try various ways to cause trouble, but as long as he was there, no one could disrupt their lives again, and no one could make them suffer even the slightest grievance. As the night deepened, the car drove steadily under the streetlights, and a smile remained on Xie Hui's lips—the satisfying journey in the 'all is well world' was still continuing. He had already begun to look forward to seeing these three women, who deserved to be treated well, fully bloom with their own radiance and live out truly free and dazzling lives. And he would always be their most solid backup, accompanying them through every stretch of the road and welcoming every tomorrow filled with hope.
