219: Imperial Capital Storm

After Ye Kong left the imperial palace, the Emperor finally showed signs of fatigue, leaning back in his Dragon Chair.

Wang Jian was startled and quickly rose, wanting to check on him, but the Emperor waved his hand.

“It’s an old problem.”

Wang Jian was puzzled and asked, “Emperor, what’s wrong with you?”

The Emperor sighed and said, “Sit.”

Wang Jian frowned, very worried, but sat back down at the Emperor’s insistence.

The Emperor looked at the tightly shut inner palace door and said, “Wang Jian, your father, Great Qin King, is the royal family member I trust most, but he has disappeared, and my heart aches greatly.”

Wang Jian sighed, unsure how to respond.

The Emperor glanced at Wang Jian and then said, “Wang Jian, I’ll be frank with you. Although I am the Emperor of the Human Race, I am plagued by illness and fear my days are numbered.”

Wang Jian’s pupils constricted. He hadn’t expected the Emperor to say such things to him.

“Emperor, you have the body of a God, how can you be so ill?”

“Could it be that the Emperor doesn’t trust me, Wang Jian, and is testing me?”

The Emperor smiled and shook his head. The Great Dao of the Gods around his hair appeared, then vanished, and the black of his hair also faded, revealing white.

“Do you believe me now? I have been ill for a long time and don't have much time left. The Ten Kingdoms of the Human Race, each now holds deep grudges against the others.”

“At the same time, the various Great Families are also stirring, wanting to seize power.”

“With foreign races coveting us from outside, and powerful Families within wanting to usurp power, I, as Emperor, am already this ill.”

“If I don’t suppress rebellion while I’m still alive, I’m afraid it will be too late.”

“I hear that your Four Great Families of the Dragon Kingdom no longer obey your royal Family much. Is this true?”

Wang Jian looked at the Emperor’s white hair with a shocked expression, and hearing the Emperor’s question, he nodded reluctantly.

“After Father disappeared, the Four Great Divine Families still outwardly acknowledged me as the Great Qin King’s heir, to succeed to the throne, but in reality, they have been acting on their own, not putting our royal Family in their eyes at all.”

The Emperor coughed.

“Wang Jian, you must remember, the world belongs to the capable. It’s not something that can be secured forever by Bloodline alone. Our Human Race must never repeat the mistakes of the past.”

“Including this position of Emperor, when I pass away, it will not be given to my son, but rather to a talented individual chosen from our Ten Kingdoms of the Human Race.”

“If we act stubbornly, and one day our strength is insufficient, the powerful Families and ministers will directly raise armies to force the abdication, and at that time, it will only bring disaster to future generations.”

Wang Jian swallowed, his mind greatly impacted, and he nodded in agreement.

The Emperor then said, “The throne of your Dragon Kingdom will naturally be decided internally by your Dragon Kingdom. I originally did not wish to interfere.”

“However, I am gravely ill, and if I don’t plan ahead, I fear the Dragon Kingdom will fall into the hands of villains.”

“I have investigated and found that the Four Great Families in your capital are arrogant and overbearing, causing widespread public resentment. Although they have the ability to replace your royal Family, this would be of no benefit to the common people.”

“Wang Jian, if you want to keep the throne, you need to understand the will of the people and do what is beneficial for them.”

Wang Jian quickly said, “Thank you, Emperor, for your guidance. I, Wang Jian, will certainly consider the welfare of the common people.”

The Emperor beckoned Wang Jian to come closer. Wang Jian quickly bowed his head to listen to the decree.

The Emperor whispered, “I am not helping you; I am considering the people of the Dragon Kingdom. Listen carefully to what I say next.”

“You are still young and inexperienced. With the Great Qin King’s disappearance, most of the old and new grievances have been settled.”

Wang Jian was surprised again. It sounded as if there was more to the Great Qin King’s disappearance.

“Now, while the royal Family still has prestige, stabilize your position. Do not contend for fame and fortune with the Four Great Families; do more practical things, and moreover, win over Ye Kong.”

“The Four Great Families have the protection of the Gods, and your royal Family’s strength is, after all, insufficient. You need Ye Kong’s help to have a chance of victory.”

“Ye Kong has a clean background, defeated Long Ao in the Ten Thousand Clans Tournament, and even trespassed into the Ye Family, which led to the Ye Family hunting him down. He will certainly not collude with the Four Great Families, so you can safely cooperate with him.”

“Ye Kong is a person destined to achieve Godhood in the future. In front of him, you, Wang Jian, must never use your royal Family status to pressure him.”

Wang Jian nodded profusely, tears in his eyes.

“I am grateful for the Emperor’s teachings!”

...After Ye Kong left the imperial palace, he used his movement technique to avoid detection and returned to the official inn.

Because he had now received the Emperor’s gift of “enjoying royal Family treatment,” he could, by custom, stay in the official inn.

Ye Kong returned to his room and carefully reviewed the Emperor’s words, concluding that the Emperor must have experienced some unforeseen event to be so urgently dispatching troops to suppress rebellion against foreign races.

But no matter the reason, Ye Kong had to win this battle!

Whether for himself or for the Human Race!

After a quick tidying, Ye Kong locked the door, climbed out the window, and landed on the rooftop.

Looking at the dimly lit imperial capital, Ye Kong couldn't help but feel a little melancholic.

Depart!

Ye Kong leaped, disappearing into the night.

Soon after, Ye Kong arrived at the imperial capital’s city gate.

The imperial capital’s security was excellent, and the city gates would open at night, but during the Tournament, the gates were temporarily sealed at night, unless there was a written document.

Ye Kong did not plan to exit through the main gate. With his skills, climbing over the wall was simple enough.

Now was the time for stealth; he couldn't let anyone know that General Who Suppresses Rebellion Ye Kong had already left the imperial capital.

Just as Ye Kong was about to move, a shout came from behind him.

Hmm?

He turned his head and saw that the civilian residences behind him were engulfed in flames.

What?

Ye Kong thought he had seen wrong, but he opened his eyes wide and saw correctly; it was indeed a sea of fire.

“Someone set fire!” “Quick, put out the fire!”

Ye Kong’s heart fluttered. He didn't know whether to leave the imperial capital that night or rush to help.

“If it’s just a fire, the soldiers helping the people put it out would be enough. But what if this isn’t just arson…”

Soon, Ye Kong’s suspicion was confirmed.

He saw a figure completely cloaked in a robe, holding a strange saber, striking down a soldier who was fighting the fire.

“Enemy attack! Requesting backup!”

“Foreign race! It’s a foreign race!”

Ye Kong was utterly shocked. How could a foreign race attack inside the imperial capital!

This is impossible!

Seeing that the foreign race was about to harm the people by the roadside, Ye Kong immediately activated Thousand Mile Swift Travel and rushed over.

“Stop him for me!”

Ye Kong grabbed the foreign race’s knife-wielding hand, forcefully stopping the descending saber.

The gleaming blade was less than three centimeters from a Human’s face, swaying.

The person was startled and quickly retreated.

The foreign race was very surprised. How could he, with his immense strength, have his hand caught by a single person and be unable to move?

He glanced over and seemed to see a scene from Hell.

The foreign race’s voice also began to tremble—

“You, you are a Shura!”

Ye Kong exerted force, and the foreign race’s arm immediately let out a crisp snapping sound. He cried out in pain, and the saber slipped to the ground, clanging.

Ye Kong said sternly, “It is me, indeed. Heretic, come and meet your death!”
