79: Chapter 79 Two Drafts
After a brief rest, in April of Year 37.
Work on the second internal draft began.
If the first draft was written for the tiny minority of mathematicians well-versed in partial differential equations to pick faults in, then this second draft was written purely for the Physics community to read.
It is the macroscopic Physics manual for the G-index system.
The title cuts straight to the point:

It must clearly peel back the deep physical significance represented by each of the six parallel channels within that all-governing reconnection evolution space.
It needs to use the common language of the Physics community to deeply analyze the essential differences and entanglements among the Plasmoid Gate, Hall Gate, Turbulence Gate, Boundary Gate, and that most bizarre and grandiose Multi-Loop Gate.
It needs to reveal how the 1,800 complex samples from astronomy, space, and laboratories underwent brutal stratified statistics in a multi-dimensional parameter space.
It needs to extremely candidly list the seven boundaries of applicability that tightly lock down this system.
It needs to unreservedly showcase the counterexample set [G_Index_Attack] specifically designed for fault-finding, as well as the system's classification judgments, marginal samples, and failure cases when facing forty-two blind-test samples.
Finally, from a higher theoretical perspective, it must sort out whether this brand-new criterion has a relationship of inheritance, inclusion, or complete subversion with a series of predecessor routes, including the classic slow Sweet-Parker Model, the highly controversial Petschek fast model, the underlying Hall two-fluid image, the cutting-edge Plasmoid cascade theory, the chaotic turbulent reconnection image, and traditional tearing mode instability.
Of course, it also has to honestly explain to what extent the narrow theorem, proven with such painstaking effort in the neighboring mathematics draft, can support the foundation of this massive architecture, and what things it is fundamentally powerless to support.
The writing process of this Physics draft was far more agonizing and walking-on-thin-ice than that mathematical Physics draft filled with obscure formulas.
It was not because the formulas requiring derivation had increased.
Rather, it was because in the grand narrative of Physics, lacking the black-and-white absolute boundaries of mathematics, the writer's pen stroke could easily overstep unconsciously.
Whenever Jiang Lin tapped out seductive phrases like "under a unified framework" on the keyboard, an alarm would suddenly sound deep in his heart, and then he would furrow his brow and press the backspace key to delete them all.
Changing them to nearly defensive phrasing.

Changing it to a dry sentence.

Never overstepping, never exaggerating, never blowing one part of evidence into ten parts of truth.
At the end of June in Year 37.
When the Wasteland once again ushered in a scorching summer, the second internal draft was finally finalized with great difficulty.
The main text content: 58 pages.
The appendix containing various statistical charts, sample lists, and counterexample analyses: 22 pages.
Total: 80 pages.
On the title page, the status bar was similarly not a heart-pounding "completed and finalized, awaiting publication."
But rather as cold and objective as copy-and-paste.
"Current status: Internal draft v1, awaiting review by peers in the Real World."
June 28 of Year 37.
These two internal drafts that had drained half of Jiang Lin's lifelong efforts finally transformed into two sizeable PDF files on the workstation's hard drive.
The mathematical Physics draft was as thick as 328 pages.
The physical framework draft was a concise 80 pages.
Totaling 408 pages.
Counting from the 13th year when he plunged headfirst in despair into the massive and chaotic raw paper database deep within the Stone House.
All the way to today, the end of June in Year 37, when the drafts were finally fully completed.
A full 24 years.
This was a long period of time that, if spoken of in the Real World, would be enough to make any utilitarian researcher feel suffocated.
In these 24 years, he was like a marmot silently digging underground.
Carefully reading word by word, skimming, extracting indices, and digesting a total of over 8,200 cutting-edge literature pieces.
Starting from scratch, he agonizingly completed numerical partial differential equations, singular perturbation theory, and those Sobolev spaces and energy functional methods that had once caused him excruciating agony.
Acting like someone with obsessive-compulsive disorder, he established an extremely perverted numerical health check checklist for MHD simulation programs.
He walked out of the Stone House, braved the sand and dust on the Wasteland, and field-surveyed to discover the circular remanent magnetic network hidden within the huge substation ruins (RECON-VC-01).
Dragging his 53-year-old body far away to the northwest, he found that massive metal object suspected to be a tidal wave monitoring device (GIANT-NW-01).
In this endless solitude, like molding mud, he kneaded out bit by bit the all-encompassing preliminary draft of the physical framework for G-index V0.1.
Using the most ruthless methods, he found a bunch of counterexample applicability boundaries that could slap his own theory to death on the beach.
Using statistics, he forcefully smashed out the empirical gating inflection point hidden in the sea of data.
Finally, sitting idly at his desk for months, he bit through inch by inch the mathematical derivation of the extremely convergent Plasmoid gating threshold under the narrow model.
Ultimately, all this struggle and sweat collapsed into the 408 pages of internal drafts before him.
Even if this was not the end of that grand magnetic reconnection Physics problem, and could not even be counted as the end of the G-index system he himself proposed.
But after all, this was the theoretical foundation that had already been laid.
Jiang Lin saved these 408 pages of internal drafts, backing them up on the hard drive, USB flash drive, and mobile phone.
Then he reached out and pressed the workstation's power switch.

The screen went dark, and the roar of the host computer that had lasted for many years slowly returned to peace.
He did not leave his stool, just sitting quietly there.

What should be done next?
Jiang Lin actually did not have an extremely clear schedule in his mind yet.
Reopen the computer and, like someone with obsessive-compulsive disorder, continue to meticulously revise the draft wording that had already been modified countless times?

The huge and bleak sun sank extremely slowly from the Wasteland horizon in the northwest direction.
In the final minutes of sunset, the last ray of lingering light passed through the Stone House's not-so-spacious window lattice and fell upon the ground.
Bathed in this soft reflected light, Jiang Lin watched for a very, very long time.
Watching that layer of faint golden light, Jiang Lin's thoughts, as if guided by some force, suddenly flew across the long river of time, returning to 12 years ago.
When he was still young.
Having just closed the final page of Temam's brick-thick mathematics fluid mechanics treatise in despair.
At that time, he actually had no idea why he had to stubbornly bash his head against completing those excruciatingly dry Sobolev space theories and abstract energy methods.

Jiang Lin supported himself by the edge of the table and slowly stood up.
His 55-year-old knees made a slight dull sound in the chill.
He did not turn on the workstation again.
Nor did he open any other books.
Nor did he make another task list for himself.
The matters that should be completed in this round were already completed.
What remained did not belong to the Wasteland.
