Chapter 8: Chapter 8 His GazeThe seat beside me deepened. I could perceive his rich, masculine smell. It made me feel more nervous. I did not know how he was going to treat me. Will he treat me badly? My throat throbbed.

A man with golden blonde hair sat in the driver’s seat. He turned around, facing me. "Hi," his cheerful voice made me raise my head towards him.

Immediately, my eyes locked with his. He flashed me a smile. "I’m Alaric Chainwalker, welcome to the Bloodshade pack."

I froze as I stared into his warm green eyes. This was the first person who had shown me warmth, with no evil intentions since I transmigrated to this world. Unlike the person who was sitting beside me, who was nothing but an ice wall.

"Thank you," I muttered in return. The words had barely left my lips before I felt Damon’s aura press down again, suffocating, as if punishing me for daring to speak to another man in his presence.

It was as if we were suddenly transported to the North Pole. The air suddenly turned chillingly cold, the oppressive aura made me whimper, all the hairs on my body standing on their ends.

"For f**k’s sake, Damon!" Alaric yelled, groaning as he held his head.

My lungs felt like they were being squeezed, making it difficult for me to breathe.

"Damon!" Alaric yelled again, sounding more like a plea.

Then the aura began to recede, making the air breathable again.

Cold sweat trickled down my face. I didn’t know what had just happened, but I knew that it was Damon’s handiwork.



"Let’s get going. We don’t have all day," Damon said, his voice nonchalant as if he had not almost suffocated the life out of us.

Alaric cursed under his breath before hitting the gas. That was how we drove off from the hellish place I once called home.

I saw the trees whipping past us. I felt hollow inside. I had no one I could call my own. My eyes cautiously peeked at Damon from under my lashes. I immediately regretted my actions when I saw him staring, unblinking, at me.

I quickly averted my gaze. My hands fidgeted with the hem of my dress. I didn’t like how powerless and vulnerable I felt when I was in his presence.

His aura was so intimidating, and his gaze was too intense. I needed to find a way to escape.

As long as I had left the Silver Moon pack, I believed I could run away from them. There was no way I was going to live a life of slavery—not an heiress like me.

I turned to him, my eyes met his dark stare. I quickly averted my gaze again, my heart skittering in my chest.

I couldn’t believe he had been staring nonstop at me. At this rate, I believed his gaze would bore a hole through my head.

His fixated eyes were so intense that I didn’t know when my lips parted. "I need to relieve myself." My voice came out as if I was being strangled alive. Panic rushing through my veins. I couldn’t bear it anymore.

The car jerked as Alaric immediately hit the brake, making me bump my head into the seat in front of me.

"I didn’t say you should stop," Damon snapped, but his eyes didn’t leave me for a second.

"She wanted to relieve herself," Alaric reasoned.

"Are you the Alpha now?" Damon asked, his voice filled with so much annoyance that it felt as if a gun was cocked at Alaric’s head.

The displeasure in tone, told him if he uttered one more word, he was gone.



"I apologize, Alpha."

His brows furrowed slightly, as if he was contemplating whether he should let me go or not.

After a moment of unbearable silence, his voice finally came. "Make it snappy," he growled.

"Yes, Alpha," I meekly replied.

"It’s master," came his curt reply.

I stared at him, totally taken aback by how shameless he was right now.

He glared at me, daring me not to say it. His irises swirled with mischief.

"Yes... Master," I muttered under my breath.

"Louder."

"Yes, Master!" I yelled, my chest heaving heavily. This man was too much to handle. I could feel all of my energy slipping through my fingers.

"Good."

My fingers shakily opened the door, my trembling legs stepped out of the car. I never realized that I had been shaking this badly all this while.

As I walked into the woods, I heard the door opening and closing again. When I turned around, I saw Damon walking towards me.

"Where... are you going?" I stammered, as I felt dread gripping my heart.

"Making sure you are safe, It will be a loss for me if you unfortunately die," he answered, his hand tucked in his pocket.

"I won’t go far. I won’t be able to relieve myself if you are close by," I said, trying to stop my body from trembling.



His gaze swept over my body, his brows knitting together as if to figure out if I was telling the truth.

"I don’t care."

His words were like a needle in my balloon, bursting every hopeful thought I once had.

"Please, believe me... Master," I said through gritted teeth, my eyes staring at his shoulders. I dared not stare directly into those eyes that felt like they were trying to swallow me whole.

"Damon, let her go. We are wasting time," Alaric said, his voice laced with annoyance.

Damon squinted his eyes as he took a few steps closer to me, which made me take a few steps backward.

"If you try to do anything funny, I will catch you, and I’ll skin you alive," he threatened, his voice low and heavy.

I hastily nodded my head.

"Go," he ordered, clicking his tongue in distaste.

I turned around, running into the woods, strangely enough, I could still feel his burning gaze on my back.

As my legs stepped into the moist soil of the forest, the damp air invaded my nostrils. It was fresh, with the scent of nature in every breath.

I could hear the twigs snapping beneath my feet. If he thought I was going to come back, then he was a fool, because I was chasing the freedom that was dangling in front of me.
