41: Chapter 41: Using the Empire's Firepower to Greet the Fellow Countrymen
Twilight.
In the Kandahar mountains, six valkyrie transport aircraft roared past.
Their engine nozzles flickered with dark blue light. Three heavy Claw-type models carrying Leman Russ Tank held the rear, while three standard models provided escort.
Not far from the ground camp, the six valkyries landed. After the three Leman Russ Tank were deployed, they immediately returned to base for the second wave of transport.
The remaining three opened their cargo doors. Wade led a 60-man advance team as they filed out, immediately assuming a defensive posture upon landing.
Wade knelt on one knee and retrieved a palm-sized metal beacon from his tactical backpack.
This was a treasure the Governor had dug out from a Hive Noble's private collection, something rarely seen under normal circumstances.
A teleportation beacon.
It was said that this was equipment only available to the Terminator veterans among the Emperor's angels, the Astartes, used to guide teleportation devices from orbital vessels or rear bases to deliver troops precisely onto the battlefield.
When Mechanicus Priest Kalen saw this thing, he spat out a stream of binary.
Although Wade couldn't understand the content, he was certain that this Father was definitely swearing quite filthily.
However, as a veteran, Wade knew very well that things that could not be mass-produced carried extremely high risks.
Father Karen had specifically emphasized before departure that vehicles could not be teleported.
Additionally, he warned that if one didn't want to get stuck inside cover, one must remember to find an open area.
Because this thing couldn't discern coordinates within buildings thicker than five meters. Forcing a teleportation inside would, at best, leave one trapped in rock with no remains, and at worst, result in being torn apart by Warp energy, leaving not even a scrap behind.
So when Fu Haoran asked him if he wanted to be in the first wave of teleportation, Wade answered him with the first rule of the standard Imperial tactical manual:
"The Commander must be the last to evacuate; this is a duty."
Back to the matter at hand.
Wade tossed the beacon onto the ground.
The metal beacon automatically extended three spikes, slamming them hard into the solid rock.
With a soft hum, a pale blue light illuminated, and it began to emit a countdown beeping sound.
Meanwhile, inside the bridge of the cobra-class destroyer.
The Technician Monk turned to look at Fu Haoran: "Lord Governor, the ground teleportation beacon signal is locked. The Warp channel is stable and without interference. The teleportation sequence can be initiated at any time!"
Fu Haoran asked: "How many troops can be teleported at most?"
"Reporting to my Lord, a maximum of 120 people can be teleported at once."
The Technician Monk paused, "But the carried energy is only sufficient for a maximum of three teleports. Each batch requires an interval of at least one minute, during which the beacon must remain stable."
"Transmit at maximum capacity, don't drag it out." Fu Haoran chose the most "safe" plan.
Beside him, Lucifer frowned.
She wore a finely tailored aristocratic dress, standing straight even on the bridge, carrying that reserve and decorum unique to a Hive Noble.
"My lover, forgive my bluntness." Lucifer spoke, "To deal with these unidentified savages, utilizing the maximum troop capacity of the teleportation array, and even deploying heavy weapons like the wolf spider sentry turret, is perhaps too ostentatious and lacks the composure and decorum of a noble."
"Under normal circumstances, we only need to dispatch a small squad of soldiers to probe. Why go to such great lengths?"
Fu Haoran's expression was solemn as he said earnestly: "Lucifer, they are not savages."
"Hmm?"
"They are my fellow townsmen."
Lucifer was taken aback.
"Even if we are on an alien planet, if my fellow townsmen are in trouble, I cannot be perfunctory."
"Not going all out would be a sign of disrespect to them and would disgrace our etiquette."
"If they don't die, I won't be able to eat or sleep in peace. If word gets out that I neglected them..."
"So today, I must use the full firepower of the Hive City to give them the most grand greeting."
Lucifer raised an eyebrow, looking thoughtfully at Fu Haoran, who was spouting nonsense with a straight face.
"Fellow townsmen?"
"Understood."
"This was a performance."
"A show of force for everyone to see."
Lucifer nodded slightly, a hint of solemnity in her tone: "I see, it was my lack of consideration. Using the most magnificent artillery fire to bid farewell to fellow travelers is indeed the greatest respect for an opponent."
Fu Haoran: (Σ(⊙▽⊙"a) ...That works too?
...
On the open ground, a circular teleportation gate several meters in diameter suddenly opened around the beacon, with pale blue energy tides surging within the gate.
Soldiers in plastiform armor poured out of the teleportation gate continuously. In just one minute, 120 people had assembled in the open area.
A minute later, the second batch began to arrive, followed by the third.
Inside the temporary camp, over four hundred soldiers began to set up a temporary defensive position.
Heavy stubbers, mortars, and Laser Gun were quickly set up, and the barrels of the Leman Russ Tank slowly raised.
Wade scanned the position.
"Where are the wolf spider sentry turret?"
"They are being deployed."
Several soldiers pushed four metal platforms quickly into position. On the platforms sat unmanned turrets supported by four mechanical legs—these were the wolf spider sentry turret.
The soldiers pressed the activation buttons.
A low hum immediately sounded. The detection radars of the four wolf spider sentry turret rotated rapidly, and the twin-linked Heavy Bolter and twin-linked Laser Gun raised simultaneously, covering all angles to the front in a fan shape.
Wade nodded with satisfaction.
"This thing is good."
"From the Planetary Defense Force down to the Astartes, everyone deploys wolf spider sentry turret on necessary occasions."
"The machine spirit is more alert than ordinary soldiers, does not slack off, has built-in long-life batteries and ample ammunition, and does not need to change shifts or rest."
"With them present, Wade could send the soldiers who were originally on guard duty to places where they could be more useful."
However, Wade couldn't help but feel: "Is this formation a bit too exaggerated?"
Wade scanned the dense defensive position: over four hundred elite soldiers with equipment comparable to the Imperial Guard, paired with heavy weapons and unmanned turrets, just to deal with 13 targets?
"Is Lord Governor treating the opponent as if they were the Emperor's angels?"
Suddenly, a scout reported: "Colonel, the Auspex shows 13 targets rushing towards us. We expect contact with our position in three minutes."
Wade's pupils constricted.
"Initiating an attack?"
"Prepare for combat! Quickly!"
"Form attack formation!" Wade shouted, waving his arm.
The soldiers quickly changed formations. Three rows of Laser Gun wielders stepped forward to form a firing line, while mortar teams, Heavy Stubber teams, and Heavy Bolter teams quickly took their positions on the flanks.
At the same time, Wade reported the situation immediately.
Inside the bridge.
Fu Haoran stared at the projection screen, his fingers tapping unconsciously on the console.
420 soldiers.
4 wolf spider sentry turret.
3 valkyrie gunship.
3 Leman Russ Tank.
"With this kind of firepower, even if the Reincarnator on the other side has hidden tricks, they should be able to hold, right? Don't capsize in the gutter."
Fu Haoran was actually unsure.
Encountering other Reincarnator for the first time, Fu Haoran didn't know how strong they were; after all, he was only a newcomer himself.
Well, a newcomer who hadn't even finished one world.
Which of the other Reincarnator wasn't battle-hardened?
If the opponent had spatial jumping or mind control, then it would be a big problem.
It's better to be cautious; he must not capsize in the gutter.
The next second, after hearing Wade's report, Fu Haoran immediately felt that he had been careless.
"The Reincarnator on the other side dared to mobilize their entire force; they must have something to rely on. What if they also brought some black-tech weapons, or had some bizarre abilities..."
Fu Haoran suddenly thought of the plots in the web novels he used to read, where various hidden big shots appeared.
Encountering his own kind in the Reincarnator world for the first time, even if the opponent had only 13 people, he was afraid of a slip-up that would cause him to capsize in the gutter.
Thinking of this, Fu Haoran immediately became nervous and ordered: "Wade, you absolutely cannot let them get close to you!"
"Full firepower."
Fu Haoran stared at the screen, saying word by word:
"The valkyrie go first, use the autocannons to clear the way."
"The rhino hold the rear. Whoever dares to charge through the line of fire, blow them to pieces for me."
"I don't care how much ammunition you use. I want them to not be able to get a single person through!"
